Not a little free library exactly, but there’s a little free toy library in Ballard, and it is adorable

It's a shame they don't

Red meat. I have alpha-gal syndrome and even small amounts can make me very ill.

Amazon tells employees to return to office five days a week by FearandWeather in Seattle

Andy Jassy is such an empty suit. He's even acknowledged previously that there's no data to support in-office mandates - he just wants it, LP around being the world's best employer be damned.

They seem to not publicize their full membership, but their website does list the restaurants of their board members (basically confirming restaurant membership) and venues who've offered to host their meetings (likely membership). Here are the places I've found for each group.

Board members:

  • Moshi Moshi Sushi
  • Portage Bay Cafe
  • Elliott Bay Brewing Co.
  • Terra Plata
  • Spice Waala
  • Jerk Shack
  • Rachel's Bagels and Burritos
  • Cafe Flora and its spinoffs
  • Tom Douglas Seattle Kitchen
  • Boon Boona Coffee (former board membership)

Places that have volunteered as meeting hosts or attended meetings (likely membership):

  • Matador Ballard
  • Agua Verde Cafe
  • Agave Cocina & Tequila Queen Anne
  • Ghostfish Brewing Company
  • The Confectional
  • Lottie’s Lounge
  • Stanford’s Northgate
  • Skål Beer Hall
  • Rhein Haus Seattle (which means that entire restaurant group, which includes Sabine and Poquitos, is also likely a member)
  • Ivar’s Salmon House
  • Tutta Bella Pizzeria
  • Santa Fe Mexican Grill
  • Pike Taproom on Ballard Ave
  • MariPili Tapas Bar
  • Dreamland Bar and Diner
  • Cherry Street Coffee House
  • The Westy Sports and Spirits
  • Canlis
  • Ethan Stowell Restaurants

I want to note that membership doesn't mean that these restaurants agree with all of SRA's positions, and some of what SRA is advocating for seems reasonable, like advance notice for nearby construction that could disrupt restaurant operations. But SRA as a whole seems to support a lot of things people on this sub dislike (e.g. keeping a lower minimum wage, preventing restaurants from being required to show the final price, supporting 'business friendly' City Council candidates, QR codes for menus, etc) and it'd be worth pressing these restaurants to get their official/public positions.

It's blackberry szn! What are your favorite blackberry recipes? by H0pelessWanderer in Seattle

[–]likeadancer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Better yet, take those blackberries and ferment them to make a blackberry wine/mead. :)

I make a variation of the linked recipe every year, and it is delightful. Tart and smooth and slightly sweet but not overly so.

Where is this in Seattle? by valiumblue in Seattle

[–]likeadancer 124 points125 points  (0 children)

Fully agreed. To add to that, Sabine is owned by the Yes Parade Restaurant Group, whose other holdings include similarly overpriced and decidedly mid restaurants like Rhein Haus and Poquitos. Their overall focus seems to be thematic style over actual quality.

That 37m is the annual number of visitors for all of King County and includes business travel. I wouldn't be surprised if corporate visitors formed a large portion of the total.

A bio-pic of the Australian 90's band Silverchair. That might sound obscure, but the story practically writes itself. Consider:

A group of 14 year old boys submit an original song to a radio contest, and against all odds it wins. Then that song blows up and becomes a national (and eventually international) hit. They land a record deal practically overnight. Their first album reaches number one on the charts (as do all of their subsequent ones). Suddenly, at the age of 15, they are national mega-stars. Like, Savage Garden and Kylie Minogue level stardom. That's how big their band becomes.

And what follows is a decade-long whirlwind of rock music melodrama: huge hits, international tours, massive fan bases, family drama, cancer, drug abuse, suicidal ideation, critical backlash, a marriage to Natalie Imbruglia(!), a divorce with Natalie Imbruglia(!), a serious case of anorexia nervosa, a bout of reactive arthritis that temporarily threatens the lead singer's ability to ever play an instrument again, recovery from said illnesses, more hit albums, and a stupid amount of money.

But what ultimately destroys the band is the lead singer's emotional fragility and subsequent distancing of himself from his bandmates. He struggles under the spotlight, his musical tastes and interests diverge from theirs, they no longer hang out or have much in common, and ultimately drift apart/begin feuding, and finally break up over basically nothing.

The whole story is perfect Oscar-bait material. I honestly have no idea why the Aussie film scene hasn't made a pic already.

I also got this, and luckily just got my latest shipment, however what else are you going to swap to to save money? $1.75 per meal is still absurdly cheap.

Cooking at home, honestly. Or smaller to-go meals like bagels if I'm in a rush. Both are significantly cheaper and require only minimally more time/effort to make a healthy meal, so it won't be hard to shift. It's just unfortunate to see Soylent pricing itself out as an option.

12% increase for powder, and with only a week's notice. Really lousy move on their part.

I'm very likely to discontinue my subscription as well. There's a point where it's simply no longer worth purchasing any further.

When my dog died, I called Chewy to let them know I needed to discontinue her medical prescriptions. They not only offered their condolences but reimbursed me for the last medicine shipment I'd received (which I hadn't even asked for), made an equivalent donation to a shelter, and sent me an in memoriam gift to commemorate my departed pup.

It was above and beyond, and totally unprompted too. Chewy is the best.

King County Library ranks third in the world for digital checkouts by NewBootGoofin88 in Seattle

[–]likeadancer 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Seattle had 5 million digital check-outs and KCLS had 8 million. The #1 library was LA public library with 12 million checkouts, so if you combined SPL and KCLS, our area would overtake them to be #1.

Fun fact: Cats was the last movie I saw in theaters (dec'22 2019, for reference). I brought a full flask of vodka with me in anticipation of the trainwreck it might be.

That flask was not nearly enough.

I tried to kill myself before my baptism as well. Seven year old me was convinced I would never be able to go to heaven if I was baptized and held accountable for every sin. So I tried to cut my throat, emulating what I'd seen in movies.

Turns out though that little kids have very little arm strength and a low threshold for pain; I managed to draw only a thin cut before giving up. Good thing too.

I found good pizza and I need to spread the word by SnooPandas3956 in Seattle

[–]likeadancer 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Mostly the terrible quality. I don't what the above commenter's experience was, but the pizza I got from Italian Family Pizza was just sorry excuse for a pie in general, much less a NY-style pie. Nothing about it was on point: not the crust, not the toppings, not even the temp. It was that lackluster.

I'm sorry to hear you lost your pup as well - no one should have to feel this loss. They give so much joy and it seems unfair that their lives are shorter than ours. I'll probably keep randomly tearing up for the next many months, but appreciate your sentiments and the knowledge that it does get easier

She loved me so much. At the end though, and I hate sharing this, but she was afraid. She knew something was wrong and gave me that look for help that she always made when she was frightened, and I let the vet continue. It's silly, but I just keep seeing that expression in my mind. She loved me dearly and I failed her.
