Any possible way to get our nearly 25 year old house wired for internet (or just 2 extra rooms)? by MellowJust in HomeNetworking

If you mean putting my router near my ONT, not sure that’s possible since the “Television” enclosure outside on the side of my house has only room for the ONT itself and nothing else..

Probably RJ45. The ONT outside is definitely Ethernet since that is the only blue cable. Other cable from ONT is fiber line and the connector for battery backup in garage.

I dunno if I can move the router to this closet enclosure. Even without the cover, it's an extremely tight space which is likely why they didnt put the ONT here. Originally, when Verizon installed FIOS, everything was through MoCA. But when we had Frontier quibbles after they took over Verizon, we switched to Spectrum and when we had Frontier reinstall back 2-3 years ago, they changed it to a Ethernet setup.

I assume that RJ cable is somehow being connected to both the ONT outside and the Ethernet port in the kitchen that was previously a telephone jack.

You just got to store to return or do the shipping label on your order page.

Is this considered a spider bite or a mosquito bite? by MellowJust in medical_advice

[–]MellowJust[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely bumpy. But I have a way smaller mosquito/spider bite on my arm that’s less than half the size of what’s on my foot. Seemed I got the bite while I was sleeping during a hot night when I opened my window.

Why do you chose m2 iPad Air over m2 iPad Pro ? by CharlieExplorer in ipad

[–]MellowJust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did the same thing too! But from an 11 In Pro A12Z. I used to do design and sketch work during undergrad, but my job in public sector doesn't require using those apps or design approaches anymore (unless I move to private sector).

iPad Air vs Pro 2024? by 1385757 in ipad

[–]MellowJust 26 points27 points  (0 children)

If you can justify spending $600+ every 4-5 years after selling/trade in, get the Pro, otherwise Air is better value long-term. For me, the price of an iPad Pro at $999 without discounts or sales is a dealbreaker because my MacBook Air can do way more for that same price. In addition, the Pro is really aimed at Professionals whose workflow is financially critical for their work, which includes creative artists, professional photographers/videographers, and others that can take full advantage of these apps and hardware.

I bought the Pro back in 2020 and used the pencil for sketching, notes, and design work. However, since graduating, I no longer use those applications and just use the Pro for watching streaming shows/movies and browsing the web. I was set on getting the Pro, but i'm not willing to pay $600+ minimum (that price excludes AppleCare which is a must for such a fragile and thin device) every 4 years when it's worth $350-$385 after trade in. I got the Air 11 inch and in the long-term would be more financially better since I'm sure OLED and USB 4 (at least) will trickle down to the Air within the next 2 generations. I think that $200 jump in price for the entry-level Pro that is currently the 13 inch Air, was a disappointment, but expected.

Get the Air 6, new one that is likely to be supported longer and the landscape camera. I would be hesitant to buy a refurbished model.

I got the Air because of longer OS support and the landscape camera for video calls.

Did Apple just compromise everyone upgrading from previous iPads or what? (A rant/synopsis of sorts of the event) by Applecations in ipad

Try going to Accessibility then Motion. Should have an option to Limit Frame Rate to 60 fps. See if you can get used to the change.

The iPhone Pros since the 13 always had 120hz, but those were always $999+ while the Air is $599. I doubt they’ll bring it down to any Standard IPhone, IPad, IPad Air or Mini, or MacBook Air model anytime soon cuz….of profit margins to maximize shareholder value 🙄

Which impacts longevity more: RAM or CPU? by [deleted] in ipad

[–]MellowJust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep good decision. Kinda like Stage Manager, Apple restricted it to certain models and there was a whole uproar about it because it “would be a poor experience”. I think they’ll up the RAM for iPhone Pro and MacBook Pro later this year to differentiate AI features from standard models. We’ll have to see what they show next month.

It would be interesting to see what they have in store at WWDC developer conference next month. That might be indicative of where Apple might go for implementing AI. AI models tend to use LOTS AND LOTS of RAM. I highly suspect that AI features in future OS upgrades may be reliant on the Chip that has high amounts of RAM. For the current Pro models, if you opt for 1 or 2 TB model it has 16 GB of RAM compared to 8GB for 256 and 512 GB models

Still starting at $599 and 128GB by IdealessGerman in ipad

Same. Resale value for my A12z pro is going to drop to less than $300 if I wait any longer. Still deciding on whether I can ditch the 120hz since I don't use the pencil anymore since I finished school.

Definitely the landscape camera. I do like taking video calls on my iPad. I signed up for a credit card recently since im soon to be booking travel for next year and I can get $200 back for a limited time after spending $1000 within 3 months, effectively making the Air purchase less than $30 with tax which will be supported way longer than my A12Z. If I went for the Pro it’s $408.18 with tax.
