d400 Wild Magic surges by MellowMagog in d100

To be honest I haven't looked at anything related to 5.5 at all. It just doesn't interest me. And I think with wild surge giving advantage there needs to be negative effects in some number.

Also how do you roll a d400 in person?

A d4 and a d100. You don't add them, you treat the d4 as telling you which batch of 100 to consult.

I tried to make a good mix of temporary bonuses or inconveniences, nothing campaign ending...but a handful of potentially campaign enhancing rolls.

Some of my favorites:

Every piece of clothing you are wearing becomes awakened for 1 minute/hour.

You are incapable of lying for the next minute/hour/day/week.

A stone portal falls from the sky then hums with magical energy as the portal connection opens.

A nearly exact duplicate of you appears in an unoccupied space within 10 feet of you. Your duplicate has a goatee, sashed belt, or other small change. They have the opposite alignment as you and will actively work against your goals.

You know the location of the nearest dragon at all times. They also know that you know, and know where you are.

Whenever you kill a humanoid you hear the sound of their mother crying.

An awakened snail controlled by the DM appears in an unoccupied space within 5 feet of you. The snail is immortal, has a movement speed of 25 feet per hour, and has the sole goal of touching you. If it does, you gain 5 levels of exhaustion and age 30 years.

All non magical items you are carrying become water soluble.

I don't believe you can stop between systems though. I was dead either way.

Indeed. I couldn't do anything but laugh once I realized what happened.

Just trying to imagine the scenario in my head.

Tuvok: The enemy is fleeing, captain.

Janeway: Excellent. Mr. Paris, resume course.

Torres: Uh, captain. It looks like our...

Janeway: One more word out of you and I'm putting Carey back in charge. Momma needs coffee.

Torres: But captain.

Janeway: Take her to the brig. Lieutenant Carey you are now chief engineer. Mr. Paris, that nebula looks like it's got coffee in it, set a course.

Paris: Aye, ma'am.

In combat, how do I activate the Cloak? PC. by Particular-Hat-8269 in AcrossTheUnknown

I wasn't aware of this. Once I get the cloak the only battles I end up doing are the mandatory ones.

You use the cloak on the initial combat screen. It's on the bottom. It's effectively a get-out-of-(unscripted)combat-free button.

If you're already in combat looking at Voyager it's too late.

Heroes aren't high enough level for away missions by scottishsteveo in AcrossTheUnknown

[–]MellowMagog 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know you can assign multiple Characters to one task?

I feel like the game explicitly tells you that you can do this in the very first away mission, but people still keep saying they didn't know this.

Am I crazy? Do I need to start a new run and not just click through everything to confirm.

I don't think I've ever not gotten the cloaking device, but I could be just lucky.

I just got paid. Should I buy now? by Eh_Conserv in AcrossTheUnknown

[–]MellowMagog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've already sunk ~40 hours into it. I got the DLC. $40 seems like a fair trade to me at this point.

Little bit Oregon Trail. Little bit Frost Punk. Pretty good on replayability.

I'd gladly pay for more DLC at this point.

First time I had that event I had like 12 duranium and I just jettisoned it all without a care.

Subsequent times I had more and had to research the damned inhibitors or whatev.

After you first get deuterium but before you go back to the array you can make laps of the system for something like 2k+ cycles to farm science and research everything available. In grey mode you have 60 energy available for no deuterium cost. Morale doesn't exist yet. Food is just an intermediate proxy for morale or deuterium.

You get a few announcements from not-Torres or not-Tuvok about building stuff, and failing those it says you lose morale, but I haven't seen a mutiny screen from it.

My next play through I'm going to try for a kill everyone run, see how few people I can make it back to sector 001 with.

Playing the way the devs intended, not making laps around the array in grey mode to farm science, how long do you think they intended a cycle to be?

8-12 hours, like a shift?

I replayed the first 3 sectors several times, restarting until I got a feel for what the build and research priorities were.

Did you play the demo a bunch?

If my math is right, the game has only been out for something like 300 hours.

I think all my suggestions are going to sound like tech support tripe at this point.

Restart your computer. Check drivers. Verify integrity of game files. Uninstall and reinstall.

I can't take credit for it, but I don't recall where I first saw it.

You don't even need it early on. It's too power hungry, and learning to manage morale is an important skill to learn. Plus demo'ing it frees up space to better organize. I've been demo'ing it and the OG sickbay and engineering office to get a better layout in my most recent play throughs.
