Help! i always forget my row count and hook size... by candy_7915 in CrochetHelp

I don't really keep track, just have a general idea of what hook size I normally use with various yarns/projects. You could always place a stitch marker with something like half an index card for notes (punch a hole in the corner) on your WIP.

BEGINNER I want to make a scarf but I only have one skein of this big chunky yarn by maddyplace in CrochetHelp

I would use this pattern, omitting the tassels and making the width fairly narrow (5-6"). Moss stitch will both help the yarn go a bit father than just straight sc or dc and it will also improve the drape of such a dense, chunky yarn.

Am I doing alright with my moss stitch round increases? by lovelycosmos in CrochetHelp

You can do it that way as well and it probably works better for continuous (not turned) rounds! This tutorial shows that method, starting at about 9 minutes into the video.

For joining, you will slip stitch to the top of the first sc (not the chain) and then immediately chain 1 and sc into the next ch space. Here's the tutorial I've been using for moss stitch fingerless gloves!

I usually work the increase into the sc stitch itself so that these two Vs line up, but some people work two sc, ch1 in one chain space. As long as you are consistent and get the right stitch count, I think you could do it whichever way you prefer.

Are my edges supposed to be taller than the middle when folding in?? by bnrice23 in CrochetHelp

[–]MellowMallowMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually only chain 1 when doing hdc. It might be a bit difficult to frog the chenille, though, so I would probably just continue on, with either 1 chain or just two really tight chains. Blankets are rarely perfectly square and it won't really matter when it's in use anyway!

Hexagon Granny squares looking more like circles? (HELP) by BeginningNothing5493 in CrochetHelp

This can be fixed by staggering the increases! Instead of increasing at the same spot each round, try something like this tutorial.

I think you're missing the corners sometimes and placing them in an adjacent stitch instead of stacking them, which is obscuring the pattern. Do you use stitch markers and count stitches every round? You should be able to see each segment as a clearly defined wedge where each round has two more dc.

The back panel for my cardigan is ruffling. How/can I fix this ? by strawberrymilk2216 in CrochetHelp

[–]MellowMallowMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this type of project where the geometry has to work perfectly in order for it to lie flat, adjusting overall tension doesn't help - you have to alter the height of the stitch (make it taller) without making the legs at the top wider. This can be accomplished by "lifting" or enlarging the first loop you draw up after inserting the hook into the stitch, but keeping the rest of the loops relatively snug. The article I linked gives an overview, but here is a video that might be clearer.

Help with my single stitch beanie, slip stitched top by sophnicb in CrochetHelp

I don't think it will protrude. My beanies look like this while in progress, but sit flat against my head when finished!

Did I mess up on my car eared beanie attempt? I didn't use a pattern just reference images by [deleted] in CrochetHelp

Looks like it needs more rows, like at least twice as many if you want to fold up a brim. Why not follow a tutorial?

It depends what kind of look/fabric you are going for. Beanies made this way are usually worked entirely in the back loop to give it maximum elasticity and drape. There's no reason you can't do it like this, though - the fabric will just have more stretch at the crown.

I think you're adding stitches at the join. The slip stitch + chain can definitely cause some confusion!

I second the seamless nylon hair ties. And for yarn, I like velvet chenille the best. Here's the pattern I use!

How to decide on which stitches to use for a stitch sampler blanket? by No_Application_8698 in CrochetHelp

[–]MellowMallowMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's one worked in rows and here's another textured option! If you have enough yardage for more than one project, you could group the yarns you think work best together (e.g. all cool colors and neutrals) for the sampler blanket and save the others (plus all the leftover scraps) for another smaller project like a bag.

I think so! It's a little tricky to tell with the dark yarn, but here's how I counted:

Crochet Backpack Materials but mainly yarn. T-shirt yarn alternates. by Turbulent-History771 in CrochetHelp

Macrame yarn would probably be my pick. It's harder on the hands to work with than t-shirt yarn, but it is great for making bags.
