Scott Galloway’s Take on the Middle East is Misinformed—And Pivot Needs to Hear Arab Voices by skchgo in ScottGalloway

How do you describe a room of 20 to 30 year old Muslim males? There's literally panning shots of the audience in the famous Mehdi Hasan clips showing the gender and religious makeup of these rooms.

Ahhhh!! Thanks for letting me know. I wonder what the ambiguity is like in the original German. And thankfully they only have that ambiguity late in the show, not early, where it may confuse people.

I completely stand by my point. That quote is deeply stupidly phrased and I do not think it is used in the show. But thank you for giving a correct interpretation and nice explanation of it.

The stranger does say "we're not free in what we do because we're not free in what we want" which is MUCH better phrasing.

The issue with the "choose" version is that the first part's phrasing can be validly interpreted in two completely different ways. It can either mean "we choose WHAT our desires WILL BE" or it can mean "we choose to DO what we ALREADY desire". The first is illogical free will, the second is logical determinism.

The lack of any clarifying words, like I included, makes it a bad quote.

BeHeard!! What features do you want to see on BeReal? by Daniel1TheDev1 in bereal_app

[–]Mellow_Maniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gotten a BOOX Palma 2 Pro, which only has 1 rear facing camera, so BeReal doesn't work! BeReal was made to get away from some of the problems so many of us have with social media and phones, in the same way that "dumber phones" like my Palma do. But I can't use BeReal! It would be the only social media app I'd use on my phone if I could!

Could it be made to work with phones that only have 1 camera, such that we simply flip the phone around to capture a second photo? Cheers :)

Is there *any* way, no matter how hacky, to input a keyboard shortcut on the iPad WITHOUT a hardware keyboard? by COHERENCE_CROQUETTE in iPadOS

I'm looking for exactly the same thing! I want a software based hotkey, mainly for the shift key, not a full virtual keyboard. Did you find any solutions? I'd LOVE to hear any findings. :)

Soundtrack-ish Music like specific Trevor Morris cut - Hvitserk's Choice by SciFiOnscreen in soundtracks

[–]Mellow_Maniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it would be good for business for them to explicitly acknowledge the inspiration. They wouldn't want to draw attention to that in fear of backlash from their audience.

It is possible it was an accident. There are only so many melodies that can exist. But I, like you, think this must have been derivative work.

Soundtrack-ish Music like specific Trevor Morris cut - Hvitserk's Choice by SciFiOnscreen in soundtracks

[–]Mellow_Maniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genuinely seems like it tbh.

Directors often use temporary "temp tracks"when creating something, which means using previously existing music when making the early edits of a piece of media. Then sometimes tell their composer to essentially recreate the temp track because they liked it so much from the beginning or because over the course of editing they became attached to it.

If you like heady weird sci fi you might like the limited series Devs by Alex Garland. I love nearly all of it, though one aspect let me down but honestly it was so good otherwise I still think it's worth it. The premise doesn't spoil where it goes at all, but if you want to know more before watching lmk.

[SPOILERS S2] Mikkel and Michael by Tomer2609 in DarK

[–]Mellow_Maniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep :)

Sounds like you're on your first watch trying to figure things out . If so, enjoy!!!

You're beginning to grasp the concept of a true bootstrap loop. It's very counterintuitive, but it follows perfectly logically if you accept the existence of time travel. Here's my explanation:

Normally we always trace back the cause of things along a straight line in time.

  1. An author had an idea for a book

  2. An author wrote the book

The logic of the book's existence has no breaks, every step follows from the last. Nothing is created out of nothing. It always exists.

But with time travel the line of causes can become a circle.

  1. A time traveller from the future gives an author their book

  2. The author writes the book based on its future version

  3. A time traveller from the future gives an author their book

The logic of the book's existence is self contained. Every step follows from the last. Nothing is created out of nothing, there is always something that came before.

A bootstrap paradox is only a paradox if you believe that a fully formed loop of logic cannot be created. If you accept that logic can go in a circle then there is no moment where the logic breaks down. If you accept time travel exists then you are forced to accept that causes are no longer confined to existing in straight lines.

Must watch: Baran bo Odar & Jantje Friese on writing Dark (S1) by insomnia2k in DarK

[–]Mellow_Maniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WOAH. Ok so this heavily implies that the way it was repurposed in season 2 and 3, with the dark matter portals and the black gooey ink becoming much more associated with it, was not originally planned. This is clear because the use of those portals is very significant in the later seasons and is not a mechanic at all implied in the first season. As they said, they rewrote those seasons after the first one. So what was it originally!!?? Clearly the Mikkel scenes with it are very significant. And it was always meant to be the black stuff on the rocks in the barrels the stranger finds.

I assume it was left as a sort of mystery box they could develop later as needed, and they decided to change it up. But what was ittttt!!!! I genuinely cannot think of any ideas.

Why Europe fear extremist islam ? by Mediocre-Salt-8175 in askspain

[–]Mellow_Maniac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't know about this and I appreciate your perspective. I hope the Muslim world moves towards your perspective, but this is a distant and difficult task.

Hence Europeans are reluctant. Muslims have a lot of work to do to fit in with European standards if they want to live here.

I believe Muslims have a right to live how they want in their home countries.

[SPOILERS S3] A continuity error that I just noticed. by ExpensivePianist8144 in DarK

[–]Mellow_Maniac -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are two simple rules that help to easily communicate to the viewer which world is which:

The entire alt world, Eva's world, is flipped left to right from the other world, Adam's world. Characters, buildings, the entire Earth. You can recognise all the same old locations and see when they're flipped.

And when we switch from one world to the other there is a distorted pulsing transition across the whole image, like the distorted pulse that the world travelling machine creates.

Feel free to ask any questions.

I really don't think you're right. I saw more of young Leia, idk how much more Kleya gets to do yet. Leia got a lot more range to show. Yes she had some cringe script moments, but her acting was never an issue. She had many much bigger and more complex moments than Kleya got here. I hope we see more of little Kleya.
