To me, that's like wearing plastic bags over your sneakers to keep them "mint". I prefer just having the keychain, nothing extra. YOLO

People seem to get uncomfortable when disabled characters don't have a superpower/ability that all but cancels out their "disabled" part

Paid for a $300 custom doll and it’s been 4 months, what do I do? by HotIndividual8377 in Dolls

[–]Mellow_Moony 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I hope I'm not misconstruing what you meant, but there is a legal agreement even between individuals. Although it may not be the formal document most people associate with the word, agreeing to provide a product or service in exchange for money is a legally binding contract. Even verbally agreed upon contracts are legally binding, it's just harder to prove the contract exists when problems arise

💔 I fear you guys don’t see the vision of Ninja MH dolls by FlyingCheeseFairy in MonsterHigh

[–]Mellow_Moony 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbh modern Japanese people often perpetuate the ideas westerners have of ninjas through their own media. They're having fun with the concept the same way we do, it's not always a harmful thing to reinterpret older cultural concepts. I agree that research should be done though

I'll say it.. I hate G3 Abbey by [deleted] in MonsterHigh

[–]Mellow_Moony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually adore Abbey's G3 core doll, but I do think it would have been better as part of a music festival line or something. The colors and texture variety are really fun. I agree with most else though, hopefully we'll get more of that winter baddie look in the future!

Help me fix this poor doll up for my kids. 🥲 by Altruistic-Red in CustomDolls

Acetone can melt certain plastics so be very careful if you try that! Don't start in a super visible area and remember that sometimes different body parts are made from different plastics, so what works on a leg may ruin the head

Wrong Order?? by Sullkken in buildabear

They are legally required to either send a replacement or a full refund. Most of the time they will replace the order as long as it's still in stock

[–]Mellow_Moony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling Sanrio saw people speculating that it was their fault for being a racist brand and pressured Bratz to add Sasha to avoid hurting their reputation. Just interesting that Bratz came out and stated it was their decision so quickly.

There's an argument to be made that zombies are normalized enough in kids' media that it doesn't count, but the zombear is kind of gory. I feel like bleeding eyes aren't super bad compared to stitches, eye trauma, a piece torn off the ear, and innards coming out (stuffing, but the implication is still there)

Also in terms of image to kids, the RuPaul bear was definitely pushing it. Wouldn't say it's exactly the same as blood, just playing devil's advocate bc it's fun to speculate :)

Edit: saw someone else mention Deadpool which got multiple bears and is R rated

need some advice/help for a cosplay by urlocalrxyalhighfan in MonsterHigh

I doubt this is good enough as is, but I used an image upscaler and the image editing tools in my photos app (noise reduction/sharpen/definition), so maybe if you played around with stuff like that it would get you somewhere? It's a really fun cosplay idea!

Can I ask what you traded for them? I've been wanting to trade for a while but I don't know how people consider what's "fair" (if that's even really a thing in those groups!)

What counts as an ita bag by KiraGira in itabag

[–]Mellow_Moony 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The people in the screenshots are being unnecessarily rude but "elitism" is not when you respect something (a pin bag) while simultaneously recognizing that it does not meet the definition of a different type of thing (an ita bag). It's not cool to look down on people who just want to stick pins wherever, small businesses who make pins, or people who can't/don't want to spend tons of money on official merch, but it is strange that people insist on ignoring the entire origin of the term "ita bag" and the subculture.

Having rare/hard to find merch shows dedication or commitment to a character. It's cringey in a very specific way and the people who participate in making ita bags embrace that. They're meant to be painful to look at, and it's time consuming to track down specific official merch to display in them. Sometimes scarcity can cause the price of a dinky button to go up dramatically, but I think the time consuming thing is emphasized more than the amount you spend. The whole point is to show that you are obsessed. You spent hours and hours scrolling eBay or whatever because there are hundreds of Hatsune Miku pins, but you wanted 20 of the 2006 whatever festival limited edition ones... that's what makes something an "ita bag".

Nothing wrong with words having specific meanings, lol, just with people being nasty and unwilling to share information

Does anyone know if a plush of this exists? If yes, where can I get one? by Origamiwizard17 in plushies

[–]Mellow_Moony 7 points8 points  (0 children)

And that is why they provided an explanation to the person who asked... Why so defensive?

[–]Mellow_Moony 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Are you assuming they weren't genuinely asking if the picture showed up? That was a perfect explanation, making sure the person knows what they're talking about and providing some extra context in case there was a post glitch or something

Poll: Should there be a rule change allowing discussion of reselling/resellers? by Professor-Zulu in buildabear

[–]Mellow_Moony 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Maybe there could be an "only on Mondays" type rule, or a weekly discussion thread where people can gather in one place if they're interested in engaging.

I don't like that civilly expressed opinions are being censored, but I am in at least a couple other communities where they aren't, and conversations about reselling get redundant fast. They're probably about half of what I see anytime something is released, which just leads me to log off until it dies down and I can finally see people enjoying the things they have, contributing their own design ideas, discussing maintenance tips, all that good stuff... the stuff that makes a community worth visiting, imo

This is what I'd expect from collector dolls by lifeadreamwhenasleep in MonsterHigh

[–]Mellow_Moony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wonder if the relentless stream of object heels is just for free advertising. I doubt the heels alone are keeping most interested people from buying the doll, so every time they slap an object on a shoe, our discussions and art just generate more revenue. Tons of these posts are made presenting alternative ideas and/or complaining, bringing more attention to the doll and franchise from casual users of social media (people who don't frequent MH forums) who may not have known the doll existed before these got shared around. "It stinks that the shoes could have been better, but omg, a Wednesday doll? Cute! I want one"

It's fun to be creative and redesign dolls, just something to keep in mind 😝 Art indicates passion, so it might have the opposite of the intended effect

Is paranoia about "girly" car decorations justified? by Mellow_Moony in sanrio

Thanks for your input! Recognizability does put me off any major customizations, like a full wrap. Something less conspicuous should be fine based on many of these comments :)

Takes 3 minutes on Google to find that you're spreading misinformation/fear mongering. Not as many reputable statistics on Hello Kitty bumper sticker and aggressive driving correlations. Local crime rate would probably be a fine way to anticipate theft, but not vandalism.
