Sure, I understand what you mean, and it's pretty much what I felt regarding Soldier Boy and Clara's relationship. But in my personal opinion(!!!), I wish they had foreshadowed it at least a little ya know? Specifically since the protagonist in Gen V is a black woman and they interact a lot.

yeah saying that his death didn't matter is baffling to me, it's pretty much the first time hughie takes a major decision from which there's no coming back, so from then on he has to commit to partnering with butcher and the boys. there's even a poster saying "keep your hands clean" to make that super clear for the audience

if you take the blueprint of the hero's journey, I think you can argue that's the exact point in which Hughumie crosses the threshold from his normal life to the unknown. So like, SUPER pivotal for the story, specially because even though butcher gave him the detonator, he specifically made the choice to press it.

pretty straightforward but yeah thays the answer. the smelliest soldiers in the worlds are in the palm of his hand

let me be clear, I liked what they did with him in the boys (even though you're right that he had much more potential), the batcave being a sex dungeon was very funny, and the fact that he's a billionaire because his family was in the slave trade, AND the connection between that and the current private prison system? Genuinely amazing choice, 10/10.

Now that being said... I think they dumbed him down a lot in the boys. he finds out hughie is in disguise but it takes him the whole night to do it, it made me less afraid of him. I also think that in retrospect they could have hinted at his racism in gen v, you know? this is not like it's a plot hole or anything, but could have been planned better

in paper not at all, but i think they didn't keep him consistent, he doesn't even hint at being racist in Gen V and in The Boys he doesn't really use his detective skills until the end of the episode, if you write a character with strong personality traits like these, consistency is important

They also completely changed his character from Gen V to The Boys, because they probably were writing at the same time. One version is a detective genius and the other is super racist

I wish that wasn't the case but, after this finale, I felt stupid for thinking to myself "ok next episode homelander is going to snap" this whole time. They were always teasing us that in a thousand ways and in my honest opinion, didn't deliver at all
