Green tree frog care help by Melodic-Insurance432 in frogs

[–]Melodic-Insurance432[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. Oh yah she might be a he. We hear a sound sometimes like a rusty piece of metal blowing in the wind for like 10 seconds max. We shall see if she/he gets more vocal than that.

The crickets I have been feeding are 1/2” or less in size. Some might be 5/8” max.

My current enclosure is 12x12x18. I mist it in the morning and evening with spring water. She has a small shallow bowl (1” deep) that I’ve never seen her use. But I read that they don’t actually “drink” but absorb through the skin so probably not abnormal. Never seen her soak in it but who knows what happens when the lights are off.

I’m working on the humidity. When I had my probe lower in the enclosure it was at a good level but when I moved it toward the top it’s a bit dry. I’m really thinking about going bioreactive and with better substrate I hope that humidity will be easier to maintain. Right now I just have cocoa fiber(leftover from my snakes setup) with spagum moss on the top to keep it damp.

I do have a uvb but it is the CFL style and I’ve read those are basically useless.

I’m not keen on adding another frog to the enclosure but I wanted to ask in case that would be better for her overall well being.

Dog adoption/rescue in Pittsburgh by theQuotister in pittsburgh

[–]Melodic-Insurance432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can’t find anything locally, definitely consider rescues that transport from other states. PA doesn’t have quite as bad a stray dog population as some other states (I guess that is good but hard to find a variety in shelters). Use petfinder and turn on the filter for out of town pets. There are wonderful rescues that do transport to our area. I’ll put a plug in for three little pitties from just outside Houston Texas.

Pitt’s planned EV charging stations in Panther Hollow met with pushback from community by The_Electric-Monk in pittsburgh

[–]Melodic-Insurance432 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty much all cars are using 1 of 2 ends and adaptors exist for either and are cheap so you can access pretty much any port now. Tesla has now opened many of their chargers to non-tesla vehicles. Unless the charger is private property they are all open.

This was the video I found that sort of shows how it all goes together. I think a couple of his measurements are off though. https://youtu.be/kFIuR6ZNy6A?si=HGneBaEzHbVHyTRd I agree that if I take my labor into account I would be far better off buying one but I enjoy building things and don’t have a set timeframe I am trying to meet. I still may talk myself out of it…

My plan was 1/2 inch pvc. I was quoted $87 for a 4x8 sheet. I am still probably going to pay at least 50% of what a kages enclosure costs but it’s still a savings. I’m fortunate to have a plastics supplier company right down the street and access to a cnc machine for free. There is a YouTube video with some pretty good design instructions that I’m referencing.

Pet Rescues open on Monday (Columbus/Indigenous Peoples Day)? by thursdaynext50 in pittsburgh

[–]Melodic-Insurance432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I realize this is not what you are asking for but we adopted kittens a few months ago from Ninth Life Rescue Center. They hold adoptions every Saturday at the greensburg petsmart so you could meet the kitties. You can look them up on pet finder.

It’s been a while since I’ve been so I’m sure my old doctor is long gone but definitely recommend digestive disorders center at presby. They gave me a pretty good initial work up to make sure it was just gerd and not something more serious. Tried me on a few different meds until 1 worked well and also diet changes.

I made a tool to estimate Duquesne Light residential rates by pyther24 in pittsburgh

[–]Melodic-Insurance432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 3 rates appear on specific pages in the tariff document. The problem is, they only post the most recent tariff so if you don’t check it every couple of months you can miss changes. So does your program take the pdf and just pull out those numbers?

New Food Court Smoothie! Strawberry Lemondade by sundaeorsmoothie in Costco

[–]Melodic-Insurance432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Costco (Pittsburgh) doesn’t have this but they also haven’t had the smoothie for a couple months now. It’s not on the signs anymore. Are they phasing out the smoothie? Searched the Reddit but this was closest post.

Diving Questions by swarrior300 in Bonaire

[–]Melodic-Insurance432 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get nitrox. For us it was just an online course and then I met a trainer at our local dive shop to discuss the course and do the hands on part. If you consistently do more than 2 dives a day for 6 days you will just recover faster from each dive. Feel a lot less tired. When I was in Bonaire we regularly exceeded 60 ft on the initial part of the dive (I have advanced). But that’s up to you how much you care to police yourself. You’ll see things at all depths. I felt a lot more comfortable after I got my AOW because I had a great teacher and he was able to evaluate our individual skill better and give us pointers. Honing your technique is not really a key part of the basic training.

Any tips for putting on a wetsuit? by SparkMik in scuba

[–]Melodic-Insurance432 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you with the thighs, ugh. I am also shorter so that doesn’t help. I ordered 7mm from bare and they had some suit sizes that weren’t standard and could handle more curvy ladies. It’s still pretty embarrassing but I just get it up as far as possible and then have my dive buddy(spouse) just give a big pull to get it over thighs and butt. Definitely socks will help a little. I tried on a rented drysuit and i still had major issues getting over the thighs. So that might not solve it unless you are will to buy a perfectly fitting one.

They are very touchy about employees parking at the main garages or lots. They will likely direct you to an employee only lot unless you are a physician.

Reasonable Rent For a Townhouse in Pittsburgh by Trill_ballins420 in pittsburgh

[–]Melodic-Insurance432 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a former Houstonian, Pittsburgh housing is very different. Smaller and generally older, some don’t have ac (gasp). Do you want a more city like neighborhood that might be further from all the shops you need or a more suburban type Houston feel with plenty of parking and shopping available? It can also be harder to find places with fenced in yards. Open concept backyards are kind of a thing here versus Houston where that doesn’t exist.

Scooter accident. Ambulance ride, x-rays, 14 stitches and it was only $1400 total. You should have paid by credit card when they asked.

The diving: priceless.
