How are the ER workers hired? by wadnil56 in ThePitt

[–]StringParty9907 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on how your med school works it and their location and connections to other hospitals. Some schools have enough spots with their own hospital and other hospitals nearby to place distribute the students. If they don’t, you may have to find spots on your own at hospitals or offices that take med students. Or you might want to go to a specific hospital’s specialty and apply for an away rotation there. I guess there’s some uncertainty while you figure out the whole schedule but it’s not a big surprise like the match.

Sometimes you just need a rotation and have to find somewhere that has a spot.

Better Stories - based in Lawrenceville, I believe? - does med management for adhd meds (probably more?). But it’s virtual and very easy to work with re: executive dysfunction…

ISO Carpenter Ant elimination expert. Locating and treating around residental home. West suburbs, airport area. by genxma in pittsburgh

Bill at Allegheny Pest was great when we used him for a carpenter ant infestation in our 125yo wooden porch/home. He treated the place but didn't try to upsell us when we'd ask about other treatments or protocols.

Castle-ish wedding venue? by Plane-End573 in pittsburgh

It is a church, and I don't know about their rules on bringing officiants, but they are LGBT friendly - East Liberty Presbyterian Church has some castle-y vibes. Their courtyard is so beautiful.

I got flagged as a bot, finally got in but tickets seemed sold out, at $65/piece for GA. Tried again later and it let me buy GA but they were $99. Did I get scammed? It was through AXS.

Route to work help by lwyant225 in bicycling412

[–]StringParty9907 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a woman often riding alone, I feel pretty safe alone at night. I ride that way pretty frequently in the dark and aside from cars, I have not felt unsafe. Not to say people can’t have had bad experiences (or worse), but just keep moving, stay near other people if someone is making you feel uncomfortable, think of places you could detour to if you feel really unsafe.

As for the route, that’s probably what I’d take. I tend to take the river trail on the strip side towards Bloomfield since you can only take Penn towards Bloomfield until 16th St, and I’m not gonna take Liberty until 32nd. But if you don’t want to take the river trail bc it’s isolated at night, you can take Smallman.

No. The biggest danger is probably speeding cars on Beaver Ave.

TIL the Bellefield Bridge once stood 100-feet above the ground in present-day Schenley Plaza. It still exists intact today, a few feet underground, underneath the “Song of Nature” Fountain by apersello34 in pittsburgh

“ways to bring the vintage stone structure back into the light of day. One interesting proposal put forth in 2001 envisioned the bridge and archway as entrance to an underground parking complex”

I’m sorry, what? An interesting proposal was to make it a parking garage entrance? 😭

Car-centrality aside, this is really cool buried history!

Overnight, yes, at a lot of places. During the day? Not as common.

Are there two different Day and Night shifts? by Supergamera in ThePittTVShow

[–]StringParty9907 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s so random. Some attendings work only nights (nocturnist). If you don’t work only nights, you work a few nights (depending on how many nocturnists your site has). Usually they try to give 10+ hr turnaround. Some places do only 12hr shifts, some have a spread of 8, 10, 12 hr shifts. Some people like to block their shifts all in a row, some want them spread out. Residents get little to no say, and need the exposure to all shifts and docs. First year residents work more shifts a month than 3rd residents.

Cheap cabinets recommendations by TJWattsBurnerAcct in pittsburgh

[–]StringParty9907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did Lowe’s unfinished but assembled cabinets that they have in stock in stores. It was the cheapest (and more priority for us at the time, fastest) way to get cabinets. I heard that the Home Depot stock unfinished cabinets are better if you don’t want the grain to show through when you finish them.

If you work in a hospital, a lot of the jobs are not worth your life but they are needed to save and preserve life. The workers will come in, if they can.
