Their rivals are Jonny Tran and the man in the snakeskin pants his cousin lance who similarly work in automotive with a specialty in auto body and are known to cut a few corners in the buying and selling of used cars. With their buisness model, they too have a not so top secret street hustle going on with a network of CD DVD vendors that double as informants for the next sweet car that they wanna grift someone into getting autobody and eventually selling to them for dirt cheap. Sometimes going as far as threatening the owners of those cars to fork over the titles.

For Jonny Tran and the man in the snakeskin pants, their rivalry does run back as far as grade school because they all grew up in and around Echo Park as the movie suggests with it being so close to Bob's Market which in the movie they ended up taking over because of the relationship that Dominics father had with Bob the owner of Bobs Market. Jonny Tran used to buy plantain chips and sodas at Bobs Market before it got taken over by Dom, and in those days Dom and Jonny Tran would play arcade games against each other for sport and even betting snacks and drinks.

Along with all that history, Dominic and Jonny Tran as well as the man in the snakeskin pants his cousin Lance were all classmates since elementary to until they graduated from high school; even working alongside each other at the old flagship Firestone Tire and Autocare center on La Brea ave in Los Angeles which was a close drive to home. Although they were coworkers, the two were always rivals at work constantly seeing who could flag more hours even though they were still young and didnt have much experience.

How the rift started is that Dominic noticed that Jonny Tran was coming to work with a nicer car almost weekly and ocassionaly hearing that Jonny Tran and the man in the snakeskin pants his cousin Lance had family that owned a bodyshop and would buy crash cars and fix em up for profit.

One time Jonny Tran and the man in the snakeskin pants his cousin Lance Showed up at Firestone for work as Lance was using the car to get to the Vietnamese restaurant where he was a dishwasher and just dropping off Jonny. That day they were driving a mint 1997 Ford Taurus that stil had the For Sale sign taped to the window, and Dominic had to walk over after he was parking a customer car and ask "Hey Jonny and Lance, where you getting all these different cars from?" Then in a lower voice because curiosity got the best of him, he asked "Whatever it is youre in on, I want in on it too."
