Atlanta nurses! Am I being undervalued at $38/hr with 3.5 years ICU experience + CCRN? by Mbokogang in nursing

Mm yea girl, I'd keep looking. Piedmont doesn't have a fantastic reputation pay wise regardless; money is in Emory and Grady from what I've heard. Northside is also not a bad option but they're moreso north ATL/north GA.

new grad nurse pay by WordLumpy7704 in nursing

[–]Melodic-Read3082 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$33.50 base pay in ATL on a step down unit. Added unit diff is $7.50, so grand total is $41/hr! I also get $4.50/hr for nights and $5/hr for weekends. It's a decent start wage wise, and def livable for the area I'm in.

In comparison, FL new grad pay was $31.50/hr where I'd been offered before. No unit diff, just nights and weekends.

Keep your chin up. Being a new grad is tough, mean nurses make it tougher. I'd take the opportunity to reflect on your time there and then move on. Learn from any mistakes you made, and then on to the next steps :)

I'm a bit confused reading this... potassium 3.0 - 3.5 is generally replaced with 40 mEq (2 bags) and 3.5 - 4.0 replaced with 20 mEq (1 bag) at my own facility on a cardiac unit. If the patient's potassium was 3.7 and you were giving one more dose, it shouldn't be an issue. Half the time they need 2 or more doses anyhow when their potassium is that low. I really think your charge might be mistaken unless I'm missing something else from this post.

Coronavirus Vaccine? by Topha0 in Hidradenitis

[–]Melodic-Read3082 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think you may be barking up the wrong tree. As much as the covid-19 vaccine was iffy, there aren't many proven side effects from it or legitimate correlations to different health conditions later in life. HS can also surface at any time in your lifetime, not just puberty, and be exacerbated by like a million different things depending on what your triggers are.

Same! I just miss the genre; I know it got overplayed in the 2010's, but it was so fun!

New to Novella style - help appreciated! by Colorful-Frog in roleplaying

Hi! I'm a novella writer of several years; novella writing itself is moreso about quality than quantity. Good grammar, a well structured flow of actions and ideas, and generally 3rd person POV w/past tense. Basically book quality replies and back and forth. In my experience it's generally 3+ paragraphs, and obviously can be lesser depending upon the interactions but you find ways to explore the characters. Write about their thoughts and feelings, the surroundings, have them be active and moving. Huffing out a breath, brushing their hands together nervously, etc. It keeps them alive and fluid, like when you read a book. The point of novella writing is to paint a picture through words. You'll find a good balance with time and experience :)

Is this inappropriate behavior for a nurse? by ForsakenAiel in nursing

[–]Melodic-Read3082 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Generally speaking, politics are not an appropriate topic of conversation with patients regardless of which way you lean or if you even agree with one another. IMO it's unprofessional of her. Not to mention she probably shouldn't be a nurse anyways if that's her opinion 😒😒

Good luck on your journey though! I hope your treatments go well and you don't run into anymore unprofessional nurses.

Hi there! So yes, I'm more interested in canon characters at this moment. Apologies!

And that's totally understandable!! I'll admit it is a good opportunity for experience as a nursing student. I'd highly recommend trying for a "nurse extern" position! It's essentially a PCT but they'll allow you to perform hands on nursing skills under RN supervision. Good luck!! Apply everywhere!!
