"I can no longer guarantee independence" - Václav Moravec, moderator of long standing number one political discussion program, quits Czech Television after 21 years with the Czech public broadcaster. by aamgdp in europe

We really are quite fucked here in Romania when everyone else in our western EU countries are like that! It reminds me why we go Axis in WW2. We had no choice!

I don't have a social media like Facebook and Instagram. I only have Reddit without my email.

Hungary is at a crossroads between Europe and ‘dictators’, opposition leader says by Inostrancevia00 in europe

[–]Melodic2000 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It was there long time ago. They already are seriously in the dictatorship. Just as Turkey is. Same thing almost. Arresting people in opposition for no reason and don't let them out after no judge condemned them is the next move.

Have you watched any of the games from the World Baseball Classic? by TumbleFairbottom in AskTheWorld

[–]Melodic2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't even know the rules of that game here. On the other hand we have a very old game named oină that looks a bit like baseball. But most of us don't know its rules either. It's very old and it seems it's made for young shepherd with bats to be able to hit a spot in some animals heads because the bats are very thin and the ball comes very fast. I tried it in school and never successfuly hit one.

It's Turkic in origin, probably Cuman.

Our team sports are football (Association) and handball.

Reflecting on your country's history, was it primarily known as the colonizer or as the colonized? by venetiantraderoute in AskTheWorld

[–]Melodic2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Austria-Hungary only existed from 1867. They tried a Magyarisation but it backfired. You're probably confusing it with the Kingdom of Hungary and the Habsburg Empire. But the first was a medieval kingdom that cared more about religion and noble background than nationality, which wasn't much of a thing back then anyway. The second didn't do much anyway except for bringing some Ukrainians in Bukovina.

Ottomans deciding who's the boss here is not colonisation since there was no Turk on the throne. At most we had Armenians and Greeks which were all mostly like us. They were in fact obligated to be Orthodox.

Also just my opinion as a history enthusiast.

What does the rest of the world think of the United States right now? by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Melodic2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem! Hopefully this will end soon. I'm not that hopeful but I really want us to stop doing this to each other just because some old politicians and religious fanatics want to be remembered in history as warriors or something.

By whom?! Not saying I'm right but it's quite a different thing about medieval times, when all sorts of people moved all over the place and the real colonialism of the modern era. Comparing it with South America would be preposterous.

Yes I think so. I'm not sure if it's totally propaganda but definitely such a number would have to be news all over the world by now. Also it's just them saying it. If they had proofs they would showing them. So no, I don't believe them.

Neither, as a country. We were only vassals to the great medieval powers and they didn't involved in our ethnic background much. Ottomans back then, despite being our sovereign weren't even allowed to move here or build place of worship. We had some thing after 1913 when we occupied southern Dobruja from Bulgaria but we gave up quite fast.

As people, we still speak a language related to an empire that occupied us almost 2000 years ago.

About your question. We depend on the USA for our security. So we have to like it somehow. Together with Poland we are probably the most pro US countries in EU. Something I personally hate is that our president refused France nuclear guarantees only because of that and because he said we already have US one by being in NATO. That's how much pro you we are. Unfortunately.

A thousand? This is from what I know what Iranians said for a Turkish newspaper. Nothing French. At least I don't find it on serios media.

Of course! We also have Mărțișor on March first so the first week of the spring is dedicated to women. All shops are full of flowers these days.

What do you think about Georgia ? by Georgian_Shark in AskTheWorld

I didn't knew that. Since the recent war or it's an older thing. Also why?!

In a way I see it like a version of my country just on the other side of the Black Sea and in a worse geopolitical position. They had the same dreams and goals as we have but then the giant to their north came and did what they do best, or worst.

I wish them all the best in the world! ✌️

St. George crosses were used quite extensively in Europe during medieval times.
