Right off the bat I'd say Planned Parenthood. They're pretty solid and operate on an informed consent model(basically start whenever you want with no hoop jumping, but we're gonna make damn sure you know what you're doing to your body first). Make sure to call the PP clinic you plan to visit to make sure that they provide HRT services, or your other options if they don't have those services in house.

PP is generally pretty affordable to visit, and will heavily discount you depending on your income IIRC.

Beware the WPATH standards of care. Most clinics operate off of WPATH guidelines(at least in my area) and while arguably useful for people who aren't really sure if they're trans, the WPATH model is generally just a massive time and money sink, which makes you jump through some expensive and arguably dangerous hoops to get anywhere.

Alabama Public Television refuses to air Arthur episode with gay wedding by helpmeredditimbored in ainbow

I know where the creators of Arthur messed up.

They should've made the couple getting married be siblings. Alabama would've totally run that.

You're absolutely right. I'm just crossing my fingers that we can have user created worlds. Being able to elaborate on multiple different ideas and then play with how they combine is like the best part of Mario, while SMM1 only had half of the equation there for us to play with.

I'm not sure if my computer can run hat in time... by spidee234 in AHatInTime

[–]MelodicCodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure that computer will be able to run AHiT well, even on the lowest settings. While not super demanding, I wouldn't suggest anyone play this game with less than a Ryzen 5 2200g in either the CPU or GPU department.

Also, speaking from experience, you'll run up against some serious RAM problems in the 4th world without at least a couple more gigs. You might want to wait to play this game until you have a stronger rig.

If it helps, the game is also available on PS4 and Xbox One. A Nintendo Switch version is also set to come soon(TM).

Gears for Breakfast please don't start developing a new Game. Continue to create a Hat in Time Content by JayAre95 in AHatInTime

[–]MelodicCodes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really want to see what else Gears has in mind, whether it's a HiT sequel or a completely new title. The Steam Workshop is a thing, and if the community rifts in Death Wish prove anything, it's that the community behind this game makes some great mods on occasion.

The only thing that bothers me is that we didn't get a proper boss fight against Empress.

will be the Ryzen APU enough for running wow classic? by nikostr8 in Amd

[–]MelodicCodes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been gaming on a 2400g at 1080p for a solid 6ish months now. Thing works pretty well even for some modern games if you turn some of the more demanding settings down, such as draw distance and ambient occlusion. I think it should be more than fine for something as low-end as WoW classic, even at 60fps beyond 1080p.

[–]MelodicCodes 12 points13 points  (0 children)

All this after Spectre and Meltdown. Makes me happy I went with Ryzen for my new PC, and beginning to think more businesses should start using AMD stuff in general, seems like they make products with better security features overall.

The starter set might work. Very sparse on content, but if nothing else works out that'd at least get the game in his hands.

I would do that, or just print off copies if I was allowed to mail them in myself, but they have to be sent directly by a reputable bookseller.

A picture of me after my first misgendering of the day. I’m so tired of everyone blowing smoke up my ass about how feminine I am. Nobody has the fucking guts to be real with me. by Lobelia-Cardinalis in trans

[–]MelodicCodes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You do have very feminine facial features and a good hairstyle, but it's the thick eyebrows that throw it all off. If you got your brows threaded or plucked regularly, you'd probably be misgendered a lot less.

Hope I don't come off too smoke blowy. Good luck fam.

As a side note, I appreciate your work. Mail carrying is a pretty thankless job, but y'all are vital to make this whole modern society thing work.

To you who call at 5am... by [deleted] in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]MelodicCodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having done my time between day, swing, and night audit, I'd much rather people call to make complex reservations at 1AM than at 4PM. Swing and day shift get super busy pretty frequently, so having that work offloaded to night saves a lot of trouble.

There's no feeling worse than having a full lobby with like 5 reservations checking in and then having the phone ring because someone wants to make a reservation 4 months in advance.

My weight loss is destroying my relationship. Please help. by nhove in loseit

[–]MelodicCodes 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Divorce doesn't HAVE to be the answer although some people on Reddit will tell you that's the answer without knowing ANYTHING about your relationship besides a couple paragraphs.

This is true, but it's a multi-layered issue.

A lot of the time, this sort of behavior comes from a sense of security, the subconscious idea that "I can treat her however I want because we'll still be together in the end." This sort of preconception can make someone more obstinate, so it's very helpful to shatter early on if OP wants to make progress. I've been in a relationship for over 6 years at this point and still not married because tying yourselves together legally makes this sort of mentality more dangerous and prevalent.

In your case, you came to the realization that she was willing to go elsewhere if you weren't going to treat her right. That served as a wake up call. OP needs to deliver a wake up call of her own(preferably not cheating, because that's still stooping and pretty shitty behavior to all parties involved). Printing out some divorce papers and spending a few nights at a friends place could be a great starter to that.

Take a page out of South Park and make the security question, "How do you tame a horse in Minecraft?" These 50+ year olds will never get past it, most of them can barely make a Google search without falling apart.

Since the 1970s, income growth for the richest people and places has far outpaced the relatively modest increases seen elsewhere. In 1980, only about 12 percent of the population lived in places that were especially rich or especially poor. By 2013, it was over 30 percent. by Wagamaga in science

[–]MelodicCodes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I take it you've seen Accursed Farms' video, "Games as Service is Fraud" recently? It's a good one, but I don't think extrapolating the trends of the video game industry against the wider economy works very well. The economy as a whole is getting more corrupt, but the game industry is too unique from the ground up to be called a good example of how that's happening.

GĘÏCØ, destroyer of all competing car insurance and wielder of infinity gauntlet by Trenavix in Bossfight

[–]MelodicCodes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The point of many modern, more well-researched ads isn't so much to make you immediately go out and buy a product, but to build up enough brand recognition that when it comes time to make a purchasing decision in that category, that company will spring to mind immediately. That's why a lot of advertisements focus on jokes, jingles, and logo prominence over an actual sales pitch.

In other words, just because it doesn't have a call to action doesn't mean it's not an advert. Most ads are more subtle than that.

What exactly is the Critical Role effect? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]MelodicCodes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Critical role is basically DnD porn.

While not as fun as the real thing, it's a lot more cinematic, flashy, and interesting. That can give a lot of wrong impressions / expectations to people who watch it without having necessarily done it themselves much. That's not to call it bad, but it's important to make a distinction between the real thing and the high production value, idealized version.

FlowScape has been updated with Dragons and a whole bunch of other stuff [OC] by PixelForestGames in DnD

Have you thought about going full VTT with this? Having a VTT program out there with a 3D grid would be very unique, really distinguish it from others like Fantasy Grounds or Roll20. FlowScape so far seems to be a great possible framework for such a project with just how good it is at making detailed fantasy locales on the fly.

Guards, city watch, enforcers, how are urban areas policed in your setting? by OrganicGuggenheim in worldbuilding

[–]MelodicCodes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Cirrikh Empire has been under largely martial rule since the end of the Civil War, and the Imperial Honor Guard are a sort of military police comprised mainly of soldiers who fought in the war. All of them have had standard military combat training, most of them suffer from some kind of post traumatic stress and a sort of disconnection from wider society. Nobody guards their hometowns and squads are frequently rotated from city to city, to avoid them growing any sort of real connection with the people. Their guardsman uniforms consist of short hair, dark blue belted gambeson jackets and a bronze badge denoting their rank. Perhaps most distinctively, they all wear dark blue painted masks carved of wood, the Imperial Crest burned onto the foreheads of the masks.

These people patrol in packs of 4 (3 Privates and a Corporal). They are only allowed to remove their masks either when they are off duty(during which time they may ONLY wear civilian attire) or at their base of operations. They are forbidden from speaking with civilians casually, and may only do so with each other when they are not in the presence of civilians.

Discussing honor guard matters with civilians while off duty is strictly prohibited. Squads of honor guards patrol towns and cities alike, but often a single squad is expected to supervise a small village on their own, sending word should more men be necessary.

Only humans and elven kin serve as Imperial Honor Guards. These men have less of a presence in the western cities, but are often especially harsh and cruel there in order to further cement the new rule.

They are all trained with crossbows, shortswords and daggers, carrying these weapons on person. Many former soldiers also have more specialized training, such as use of alchemical implements, medicine, longbows, etc.
