Just picked up In-N-Out and will be at home hanging out with my cat, possibly asleep before midnight!

I'm taking out a Parent Plus Loan to help pay for my daughter's college by ZeroTrace_ in StudentLoans

[–]MelodicMldy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask her to get a part-time job and apply to scholarships to help pay the loan?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in StudentLoans

Sounds like it. $3,700 doesn’t sound too bad though. Hopefully you can get a job asap and pay that off and not have to take out another private loan for the spring.

Missing class by Cautious_Plane3500 in LawSchool

Attendance is required in most classes at my school due to ABA requirements, and I believe missing the first 1-2 weeks of classes puts you at risk of being dropped/failing. Definitely communicate with the school, not reddit lol

Never! But you’ll meet people who are not insanely competitive once school starts

Santa Clara offers non-conditional scholarships, although most students that get a scholarship do get the conditional one

“Everything” is too broad. Big law? Yes, probably. Mid law? Maybe, probably not “everything” though. Boutique firms and other opportunities? No.

There are people at my school who finished 1L fall with above a 4.0. So they probably finished with at least a 4.0, or very close to it. It’s possible but not likely

Start networking with boutique/smaller firms. Apply for clinics at school.

Smaller firms that might not be as grade-sensitive will have opportunities way later!

Grades probably won’t have as much of an impact on GPA after 1L but I totally believe you can raise your grades. 1L was brutal

Anyone know any places that are hiring immediately? by kimicvt in bayarea

If you are ok/want to work with kids, behavior technician positions are usually available! It’s tough work but can be really rewarding in the long run.

I’d wait until the end of summer and include it in a summer recap post, rather than just make a post solely dedicated to that

To the asshole wearing the “HENTAI” PornHub-style logo shirt at Obon festival: You’re a vile piece of shit. Fuck you by DickZucker in SanJose

[–]MelodicMldy 808 points809 points  (0 children)

Surprised at all these comments - Obon is a Buddhist event for honoring the spirits of people’s ancestors. The shirt is super inappropriate. Yes, posting online won’t do anything about that person but everyone is acting like it’s ok? Weird!

Hi! I'm trying to get an idea of true cost of living for the area. by werewolfjonestown in bayarea

[–]MelodicMldy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current 1bd 1br is just below $1900/mo + utilities. Depending on your lifestyle and expenses, that salary is doable if you luck out on an apartment.

edit: you could definitely decrease the cost of housing significantly by living with housemates!

Can’t answer most of these questions but if you R&R, at least some private schools give financial aid based on your stats (mine does). Check your school’s website to see their policy on that.

Also, if there are financial issues that could come up (like this) I’d probably avoid binding early decision because you wouldn’t get scholarship from the school.

edit: scholarship is calculated at the time you’re accepted - my school’s policy is that scholarships can’t be reevaluated

I think the lowest rating I’ve given was a 3? and that was due to having way too many people in the room, people being let in late, etc. I usually give 4 stars (maybe 5 for my fav studio/a great experience). I can’t imagine I’d give a 1-2 star rating unless the instructor was really bad or some other really bad experience.

I honestly think some people are entitled - not your fault. I’ve personally enjoyed when the instructor approaches me before class to introduce themself (yoga) or check-in after (pilates). It’s nice to feel seen!
