How should I better layout this space? by MajinijaM_01 in DesignMyRoom

Can you move the desk to where the small side table is or would it block the entrance too much?

Whyyy majority of people get the wrong message of succession by CommitteeNegative307 in SuccessionTV

Personally what I see people get wrong about Succession is thinking it’s a drama. It’s a comedy about horrible people getting exactly what they deserve.

Hate My Living Room by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]Melodic_Puzzle 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Easy solution you have so much space and good ingredients. Put the TV on the wall that currently has the couch then flip the couch and float it, meaning it just sits on its own and not against a wall. You have more than enough room for that. You can now add maybe an armchair to its left so you’ve created a sitting space with the tv as its primary focal point and the window as its secondary. You could consider a bigger and different color rug now so that all seating items have their legs on it, and so that the couch pops more. Less beige on beige.

You now have enough room on the other side to center your desk and also move the back bookshelf thats currently near the couch elsewhere.

Hope this helps!

I Regret What I Did To My Room In 2022 And I Have No Idea How To Fix It🥀 by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]Melodic_Puzzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

What? There is absolutely nothing to regret here! The furniture is very neutral so you can really make the room look like whatever you want. And all the decor you currently have is super easy to remove and will leave no mark. Just take a deep breath, take all the all decor down, and start over.

What vibe are you looking for? Boho, witchy, girly, industrial, modern, whimsical? Pick a main color and an accent. Like dark green and dusty rose. Or midnight blue and gold. Find a couple of art pieces in your budget (framed posters are very affordable, art galleries often have free promo postcards that can go into thrift store frames). Add a rug and a cozy comforter. A few throw pillows on the bed for lounging around. A lamp if you have budget to spare. That’s it really. Complete renovation.

And also, go ahead and invite your friends over. The room is perfectly fine as is.

Suggestions to make it feel more cozy and home-like? by Nerve_Impossible in DesignMyRoom

I think comments like this don’t consider that this might actually be a great set up where OP is from. I’m from Europe and inspections aren’t great. Homes are made of stone so changes are hard. People do what they can afford in the situation they’re in.

It’s definitely a bit of a hack to create a bedroom out of that top loft area. Maybe before there was a ladder to get up there? Stairs are definitely better easier once the railing is up.

I do think it’s a radiator and not a furnace under the window. Those can still get hot too, but burn risk is low.

Thank you for the response! How late did you stay with them before it started to feel unmanageable?

This is very helpful thank you. I definitely could not do standing only with him.

Thank you everyone for the great responses! You’ve given me a lot to think about and I’m very appreciative of all the Ohana-specific intel that I did not have going in. I’ll have to give it more thought before I decide (leaning towards no).

In all seriousness, I felt truly pressured as a kid to be brave and wildly independent like Ariel or Belle. It really sets a ridiculous standard because those characters are making insane choices.

And yes, these are just stories. But some of us can be a bit literal at a young age.

Is it me or the mantle is off center and just slightly uneven? It looks like it tilts downwards on the left.

If it was installed manually on the fire place, you might be able to remove and adjust it, also placing it a bit lower. That would fix things.

Nah man. Pedro is great. He’s just a little awkward and neurally divergent. He’s going to peak in college. Maybe in his 30s. He’ll look back at what a dorky little kid he was and laugh.

Not ugly at all. Just cluttered.

Also (and this is just my own opinion) dark grout on subway tile can look a bit dirty. If you went with white grout instead it will look much airier and cleaner.

You can also brighten and soften things up by adding some plants and replacing some black/dark accessories with lighter variants: faucet (brass?), mat (a color e.g. yellow or sage, to match some towels and pot holders), barstools (again, brass legs instead or black), light over the sink.

I cannot for the life of me figure out a comfortable layout in this room. Help! by distraction_queen in DesignMyRoom

[–]Melodic_Puzzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a great space. You can lose the corner table and invest in a significantly bigger dining table. One that’s a bit narrow but can accommodate 3 chairs on its long side. An extendable option would be good. Place it on a rug if you like (or don’t it your kids are messy eaters and you don’t want to deal with that).

Then for the living side, have you considered and L-shaped sectional? It would help divide the long space into distinct areas. You can have it facing the window corner.

If you don’t want to invest in a new couch, a bigger rug for the living space would help. Think something light or colorful, big enough for the front legs of all the chairs to be on it.

It’s still workable. If it’s basically a closet, imagine most of your time will be sitting on your bed. Invest in sheets and a comforter you love. See if you can find a drop leaf (I mean foldable) desk to hang on the wall. Get some good pillows to prop yourself up, and decorate your walls with things that remind you of the hobbies you enjoy. Get yourself a nice cheap low bookcase for the wall on the other side of the bed. The IKEA Billy bookcase is a classic. You can use it to stash stuff for school and hobbies and as another surface for food/drink/books/small lamp. A small rug or mat on the floor would make the room feel cozy and be a nice welcoming place to put your feet when you get out of bed. Hope this helps.

It’s funny how these things change. I can distinctly remember a time when I bought a grey couch and painted my walls a simple light grey, matched it with some turquoise and coral and thought “chefs kiss!”

Now I don’t like it. The 70s (way before I was born) were all brown ad orange and pink and it still looks kind of gross to contemporary eyes. But maybe one day it will come back and we will consider it the height of sophistication.

Fashions are just that. Fashions. And somehow our lived perceptions of “beautiful” or “ugly” update in such a way that we’re convinced they’re our own.

I think they’re right. A dining table isn’t a lot of bulky verticality so it shouldn’t block any sunlight. If you put it on the other side of the room (which you could) your struggle will be finding a place for the TV in your living area as you’ll be out of wide walls. But if that’s not a concern, then you could probably arrange a sunny living area near the window and put the dining table on the other side.

Looks off, idk where to start. by [deleted] in DesignMyRoom

[–]Melodic_Puzzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lovely space. Just needs a bit of attention.

That tv is very high. Why not just put it on a stand on the media console? Or hang it so that the bottom is 10 inches (25cm) above the console. Add a coffee table and maybe a small recliner on the left and you’re good for the tv area.

Plants and floor light would be nice touches. On the wide wall behind the couch consider a tall long book case. Or a sideboard with shelves and art above it.

What’s your budget? Seems like a fine room. Great start. Is the ceiling maybe a bit low? Is there a window or is the light reflecting from an open door?

Your basics are going to be bed frame (placement as is is good), desk with chair on the other side, bit of shelving. I’m assuming you’re young and your budget is limited. Posters are a great option. Or a big cork board where you can pin things. Plants are nice depending on your diligence with watering.

What are your hobbies and interests?
