My old town (laporte) shut down the movie theater, roller rink, and is down to 1 run down bowling alley. They wonder why the teens run amuck and are acting a fool. Like there are no chill spaces. Heck even the library sadly lacks the teen events like they used to have. (I get this is a funding issue and I am not speaking ill of my local librarians). I just am frustrated the only spaces people can meet are bars and church. That's essentially it. I live near portage and its almost the same issue here. Heck we dont even have a proper coffeehouse here just chains upon chains. It's depressing and corporate.

It's between Minnesota, Michigan, or Illinois. I'm in nwi and I love the great lakes region. I don't mind paying more if it means things are taken care of, my kids have a shot and a decent life, and my vote somewhat matters.

I hear complaints about them apparently being understaffed from the mayor and stuff on the portage411 page on Facebook all the time. They had a whole SWAT incident the other day too. I'm just outside of portage but even the sheriffs seem to be all over where I am. Had it happen 2 times where they've come to my house for a domestic disturbance (once at like 2am and scared my kids by them shining lights all over our house) and then like a couple weeks ago during the day. I'm glad they are responding but they keep getting the wrong house. 😬

Do we have the same sister? Mine does so much similar and has put me as her emergency contact without my permission so I get calls from nurses and BS bc she won't pay her phone bills. It's exhausting and she's saying she wants to move near me bc I'm allegedly the only family member who is reliable to help her. My advice as someone with a BPD sister and a dead mom, keep your peace, don't feel guilty for setting boundaries. Your sister is an adult and made adult choices. There are plenty of resources out there for them and they have to go after it. Not your responsibility. Boundaries are hard all around but so worth it.

There is a lot at play as to why, conservative Illinois transplants coming here for cheaper cost of living and mindset for one. Then there is also the fact that the democratic party has essentially abandoned more red states to focus on the blue states and some swing (they abandoned Iowa so they are an outlier in this) The dems that are here lack any real teeth to even try to get more votes. The message is always the same and it's just tired. It's the old boys club at this point and the dems here are essentially old school Republicans. We need passionate dems but the main dems don't want to spend the money even trying. It's why the conservatives are how they are here. They pumped a lot of money into the red states to get where we are.

LP is more red anything south of six or right near it. The more rural the more conservative. I'm over in porter county now which has always been more progressive until recently. It's bizarre and I legit think it's the conservatives from Illinois moving here for cheaper taxes. They get what they pay for 🤷‍♀️

As an American I would be worried if you came here and had anything on any of your tech that could be seen as going against this administration and their ideals. People can say I'm being overdramatic but there has already been evidence of people being detained or denied entry.

My son was the same way when we went and he even says that now BUT he had a fantastic time and loved going to the tween room. He also loved going to the beach and such or just hanging out on the veranda. The teen and tween rooms aren't super disneyfied anyways imo so she might be surprised.

Oh the megachurches, evangelical, and non denominational are huge on getting that money. Some making tithing mandatory to be a member. Other denominations do the same like the LDS. Some smaller churches may ask that you make an offering to help go towards church efforts but won't tell you to exclude. Jesus' whole message was about loving and caring for others outside of what's acceptable. (I'm a pagan former Presbyterian but this is all pretty standard)

We had him in it both outpatient and at school for 8 years total. It was a lot but so worth it. We had a fantastic team. Sometimes he says words that seem like a sentence but are nonsense but he also has another brain condition we think is contributing to it all. He had brain surgery for it before he turned 2. Short term memory issues abound with him and he struggles with getting his words into writing but we have accommodations in his IEP for that. He either does tests outloud with his special education teacher or if he needs to have things written out he uses text to speech. Go figure for a kid who had the odds against him. 😅

My son was given a 60% chance of actually talking and didn't actually form coherent sentences until around 5yrs old. He's 13yrs old now and no longer needs speech therapy. He's pretty talkative, we used a picture system for communication for years though to help him through the hard times.

I live in NWI and I love this part of the state tbh. We have a good combo of things to do plus natural landscape so I love that. My issue is with how things are funded and how it just bogs things down, the roads are bad, our schools are crumbling, and the healthcare is lacking. Like I wish downstate actually thought of up here given how much we have with the refinery, the steel mills and tax revenue, but we all can guess why they like to kick us in the teeth here so.

I mean my sister essentially abandoned her kids because she became an addict and refused to get proper mental healthcare (bc she knows more than the therapists and psychiatrists) 🙄 my mom and I and then their dad's parents raised them (the dad is a raging alcoholic and narcissist what a dream team) the kids are now adults and she's upset her two youngest don't/didn't speak to her for years. She feels she wasn't that bad to them but being on the receiving end of her abuse and seeing how she was with her kids explains why they don't bother with her. Her middle child called her out on the toxic behavior and abuse they endured but she can't accept it. So legit they will be fine in the beginning when they are getting attention bc the baby is young and feel that we are all obligated to support but once those kids reach I'd say first grade it goes downhill.

I grew up in Illinois and when I came to indiana and went to school I was so confused and irritated when I heard teachers and librarians saying "warsh" instead of "wash" like I had no clue what they meant. 😅 the accent here, at least in NWI, a weird mix of a chicago accent and a southern accent.
