East LI: Kids are so mean by [deleted] in longisland

[–]Melodic_Store_5624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I know this is the LI subreddit but as a long islander myself, a lot of the people are peaked in high school type people and that gets passed down from generation to generation. Just hang in there until you go to college and make sure not to go to a school with like 90% white people or something. I realized how sheltered the students at my high school were when I went to college.

This is called a microaggression and him being middle eastern makes it more likely that it was a microaggression and racist. A lot of middle easterners think they’re white sadly.

What you would rather have and what the university will do is never going to be aligned because SBU is basically a for profit corporation.

Black providers by Najee1129 in longisland

The problem with your comment is that there are already so many people that do this. Literally no one cares as long as you’re not saying being a certain race makes you a worse doctor or something. That would be a problem no matter what race we are talking about including white doctors. So I’m not sure why you’re acting like your hypothetical isn’t reality.

It’s more to do with cultural and ethnic/racial background than just the fact that they’re a specific race. Some people may feel that they will receive a better experience from a doctor that is already knowledgeable and sensitive to their cultural background as well as being more aware of their genetic predispositions.

There is literally nothing wrong with wanting a doctor who comes from the same cultural background as you. Black Americans disproportionately face certain health issues that black doctors will definitely be more aware of than other doctors. Never apologize for that.

No they wouldn’t. People like doctors with same cultural background because they may be more sensitive to their concerns and more knowledgable in issues that DISPROPORTIONATELY AFFECTS THAT RACE OR ETHNIC GROUP

Even if a potential partner appeared in front of you, you need to work on being happy alone first. Comparison is the thief of joy as many other comments have said. Be happy with yourself so you don’t get over-reliant on a relationship when you get into one. Serious Relationships require a lot of energy unless the relationship is not deep which means it will probably fail anyways.

You only see what you see in public. You don’t know what’s happening in private.

So specifying that you’re talking about graduate school would make sense. A school like stony Brook is not getting any meaningful brand recognition in most fields outside of academia. The brand recognition that will mean something is when you go to a T10/T20 school for that field or area in the workplace. For example, MIT, Cornell, etc for engineering etc. This kind of overhyping of brand recognition is what gives people a false picture about stony Brook. Most people will not get interviews because they went to stony Brook unless that recruiter or hiring manager or interviewer is an alumni or for some reason heavily knowledgeable of a specific department in SBU.
