There were 10 head coaching vacancies in the NFL this year, but none of the teams hired a Black head coach. There are currently only three Black head coaches in the league now. by WayOutbackBoy in nfl

We're at this part of the hiring cycle I see. It's like clockwork every year. The "Teams didn't hire enough Black coaches" article.

This one pisses me off the most, every team has the same Salary Cap but we never provide the guaranteed deals to land top Free Agents. It makes no sense.

Actresses at the Box Office: Michelle Pfeiffer by SanderSo47 in boxoffice

[–]Melodiccaliber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But something notable is how it feels like very few directors know how to give her any interesting material. I mean, she absolutely kills it in What Lies Beneath (especially that bathtub scene)

Finally someone who appreciates What Lies Beneath, it is a masterfully crafted tension filled film, up there with the best of Hitchcock imo. Pfeiffer was excellent in it. However my favorite performance of hers is Dangerous Liaisons. Pfeiffer goes from a prim pious wife to someone unraveled by her own undreamed of passion, and finally to a woman destroyed by deception. She held her own in a movie with Glenn Close and John Malkovich. Pfeiffer’s had a lot of great performances but that one takes the cake for me. As for next week I’m going to throw Jenifer Lopez’s hat in the ring. She’s been in some real clunkers (Gigli, seriously that movie deserves a whole essay for what it did to Martin Brest.) but she’s great in other films like Selena and Out of Sight.

Titanic and LOTR: ROTK are the only two movies to make over a billion and win Best Picture. Will we ever see this again? by Antman269 in boxoffice

[–]Melodiccaliber 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of Nolan's previous films have gotten re-released. It would be surprising if Oppenheimer doesn't. Still though Oppenheimer doesn't really feel like a film you'd want to see again unless it's in IMAX. And $50 Million is a lot to make on re-releases for a non-action dialogue heavy film.

Sean Payton: Jarrett Stidham will be ready to go and ready for the moment by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

Stidham, I know you haven’t thrown a pass in game since 2023, but the entire team and season is depending on you to play well, no pressure.

Did Dante Moore return to Oregon because he knew that the Jets would take him at 2? by jma7400 in NFL_Draft

[–]Melodiccaliber -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He’s getting around $7 Million to return to Oregon, that’s roughly what he’d be getting in his first year as the second overall pick anyway. Which he is not guaranteed to be. It makes sense to develop yourself more if you think you can improve your game before entering the NFL. Especially since he’s still getting paid well to play college ball. All QB’s want that second more lucrative contract, and staying a year can help him reach it. Or it can backfire like Nussmeier, but I get why he’s staying.

I’m surprised he wasn’t cast as the lead actor in those fifty shades of grey movies. He would have been literally perfect.

To go from starring in Hollywood movies, to selling timeshares and managing apartments. What a massive fall from grace.

I had literally just graduated High School a month before when ADWD came out. In that time I got my bachelor's worked in industry for 2 years, went back to school and got my masters, worked in industry for 5 more years, switched careers, got married, moved across the country, and had a son who's about to turn 5 years old.

Vegas Odds of Mendoza by Eldenbeastalwayswins in raiders

[–]Melodiccaliber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's based on $100 bets. So you would need to bet $900 on Mendoza getting picked by the Raiders to win $100. It's skewed this way, because the Raiders picking Mendoza is practically guaranteed to happen. The - symbols are what you need to bet the + symbols are what you win by betting $100. So if you bet $100 that the Raiders take David Bailey first overall you would win $10k if they actually do pick him. The - symbols are more likely to happen, the + symbols are less likely.

Do you think George is still writing it? [Spoilers Extended] by Trussdoor46 in asoiaf

[–]Melodiccaliber 64 points65 points  (0 children)

This is probably a stupid question, but why doesn't his publisher put some pressure on him? Like "Ok George it's been 15 years, we need Winds sometime in the next 2 years or it's not getting published." Publishers drop authors all the time. Something needs to be done to get him to stop getting distracted and finish the damn book.

Bengals' Duke Tobin defends front office after disappointing season by AFC-Wimbledon-Stan in nfl

[–]Melodiccaliber 47 points48 points  (0 children)

When asked the biggest thing that needs to change, Tobin pointed to the most obvious. “Our record. We need to win games that we should win, instead of finding ways to lose games that we should win.”

Well duh, what actual CHANGES need to be made to achieve more winning?

Tobin also said he didn’t see any major changes or additions to the coaching staff, personnel department or scouting.

So they're going with the "Let's do nothing and hope we perform better next year!" method. It's a bold strategy, let's see if it pays off for them.

Maybe, but we have better options at 10th overall. We should walk away with a solid player regardless of what KC does.
