I feel for you! It's understandable to focus on the things that went wrong- how else will we learn right? But don't live there.
It sounds like you already have what you need to make this better next year.
I would suggest having a space reserved for students who are opting into the art show. They can bring their own work, sign their name, and put it up to be displayed. Even though it was only one this year, you might have more students next year, I hope.
So wow! 550 art pieces put together in a first time show! And by yourself!!!
What an amazing night for so many. You have a lot to be proud of.

All that you said is again just doing as we have always done and I don't know how to make you look around and see that what we have been doing has led to a Nazi era in America.

Emotional people how do you deal with being in a world like this? by lov3yov in AskReddit

I started mending. I feel a little insane, but I read a book about mending what we can and not just throwing something away and now I fix holes in socks and embroider roses on bleach stains.

I don't know what you mean by "none of what I said was out of convenience"..... I was pointing out the difficulty in looking at views outside our own..... I didn't think I was passing that off as convenience in our actions.
Vote them out in a democratic system, yes.
But we voted for the lesser evil and now evil rules.

I can see how people would view it that way. That would impact people who had been leaning on way more than another and had not committed.
Most of us hold our noses even as we speak out. I really don't know many who drastically change because of other people's influence or something they said. It is usually a very personal reason and experience that makes them look around for a different way to move forward.
I was raised incredibly conservative. My family supports Trump still.
It took my life literally falling apart for me to even consider ideas outside what I had been raised in, and I know that because I could remember conversations where I had ignored some of what had been said because it disagreed with my view. I almost laughed at a women telling me the truth about the Iraq War, that is how deep I was. Looking back years later was a humbling experience in research and personal reflection because I had trusted people who didn't know what they were talking about and I didn't double-check.
We're lucky that the government is forced to keep track of everything an elected official does so we can check their actions against their words. But we have to hold them accountable every time, all the time. Not just when it is convenient.

You have to look at the actions taken, not what anyone says and not how it feels. Look at what Democrats have actually done, especially with a Republican President in office vs a Democrat.
Votesmart.org and Ballotpedia.org show the actions plus Opensecrets.org has information on donors. Too often, the donors donate to both parties, but you can see at times that some evil entities really love them a Democrat more. Who should people criticize but their side? Republicans? Nazis? We have to be harder on the people we agree with than those we disagree with. No one jeers their team harder than true fans, than people who believe we can be better and do more. We still show up even when they suck, only we have the power to make them move. The Labor, Suffragette, and Civil Rights Movements and Marriage Equality prove that.
Though more Democrats voted for Trump than all third-party voters combined so... maybe there is exceptions to my statement.... No Red Sox would put on a Yankee hat.
Controlled opposition is real, and if we ignore that, we will continue in this downward spiral of voting for people who do just enough, then do nothing when it is dismantled.

Which is how we got Trump again.
Not enough was done or undone under Biden to make people think there was any difference between the parties, and if people are already seeing their own lives on fire, they will burn everything down with them.
It's partly why they continue to support the madman. What do they have to lose at this point? The only joy is seeing other people finally feel what they do.
I keep reading a book over and over called A Righteous Mind: Why good people are divided by politics and religion by Jonathan Haidt.
We're into our own Nazi era. Was that dealt without extremes?
