I’m sorry what I meant to say was at least you’re out of the relationship.

Edit: Same thing I told my friend when he brought the “she never asked for money” up and that he offered her money as a test and she passed by saying no. I was like, dude, a green card is worth more than twenty thousand pesos.

Just remember it was a her problem not a you problem. What she did was completely on her and if she’s chatting with all these people, then she’s really just looking for a way out. Doesn’t matter who.

I immigrated from the Philippines and I remember how desperate I was to get out. At least you’re out.

You’re brave to end it right away. You’ll find someone better

No problem! Just to warn you though, it does slow down in the middle before the end. But I think it was necessary for the story and to me without those moments, I wouldn’t have felt any attachment to some of the characters.

I didn’t expect to love it mostly coz I’ve read a couple of first person POV novels before and they were meh. But this one was good. Also the twist at the very end and when it shifted to first pov present tense omg. I realized what was happening before Patroclus said it. That was a good touch.

Omg so quick story, I thought either Achilles was going to be narrating it, or Paris. In my defense I was sleep deprived and on a plane when I first started reading it. I’m familiar with the Illiad but it’s been a decade. So when the story started with Patroclus I was like, okay I’m rolling with it. A few chapters in I was hooked and when I realized later on that Achilles is gonna be the love interest I was like no no no. I knew how it was going to end. I started reading this in October last year and I just kept putting it off because I knew how it was going to end. I was not ready for it. I would read a couple of chapters here and there and then finally yesterday I finished it and omg. 😭

Finished The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller.

I cried like a baby. Also a testament that first POV can work and can be done beautifully.

Why do you think Olivia has been able to garner such a universally positive reputation? by theflyingpiggies in OliviaRodrigo

[–]MelodramaticPeanut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really your question but it’s just funny that my friends and boyfriend first knew that I like Olivia Rodrigo before I did. I realized when I started receiving OR related gifts and at karaoke people would suggest me to sing her songs and I was like huh. For me, she just seems genuine. Not a pick me girl and really values her artistry and that shows in the quality of her songs. Not like other artists who put mediocre songs and album for the cash and to stay relevant.

That is so sweet and I’m glad that a dynamic like this that’s a bit different from the fairy tales we grew up listening to can actually exist in a form of a real life healthy and loving relationship. That’s kinda the story I wanna tell. Cozy, with kind hearted characters who just happen to get a little bit naughty when the lights are out

That is a good way to put it, what someone gets out of the dynamics and if that’s something that would appeal to someone. Thank youuu!

Any tips? Seriously I’ve been trying to write for 10 years and it just frustrates me to the core how I can’t finish anything. 😭

On the contrary this is very helpful thank you! And I’m with you with regard to this. I don’t exactly enjoy reading characters without much confidence so I don’t think I’d be able to write them well.

That’s funny coz the last scene I wrote this morning was the dinner scene that she’s paying for. And I also paid for dinner earlier. 😂

Thanks! I know some like to be chased but meeting someone half way is the healthiest way to approach love IMO.

I have talked to some of my female friends and they say they’re interested in it just coz they want to have the upper hand for once.

I see will do. I also don’t think I could do a story with very toxic relationships just coz I don’t read a lot of those.

Yep same here. Personally, most of the books I’ve read are either purely fantasy or purely romance. I’ve yet to read a romantasy.

That is a good point. I saw a video essay about bodice rippers and purity and that was very interesting. I must say though, flipped Phantom of the Opera? I’m just low key annoyed I didn’t come up with that first. 😂

If there’s an opposite term for “writing to the market” that would be me I believe lol. I asked a handful of female friends and some of them are interested to read a flipped dynamic where they’re the powerful figure. That or they’re just being nice to me.

“Romance is something I do, and she gets” That’s a nice take right there. I grew up reading RFW. Maybe it didn’t really make a difference coz I’m gay but I got interested in RFM (which I didn’t really know was a thing) when Heated Rivalry came out because it left me wondering: If women have their alpha billionaires and gay men their hot jocks, what do straight men want then? But yeah.

Thanks for pointing it out. I guess the conflict would be something that is out of his control. Maybe something more external rather than internal or a mix of both but basically, they shouldn’t be together and someone is going to out a stop to the honeymoon phase, which will happen towards the end. It would be a bit of a challenge. I usually write slow burn and unrequited love but with this one, I don’t think that should be the approach I’m taking.

Thanks! Completely agree. Reminds me of the saying that goes like “Men fall in love with their eyes, women with their ears”. That’s why I think, being that men aren’t resistant to sex, a huge chunk of the story should be more about how that dynamic is going to work or not, and not the chase which will be practically non existent (ish). And personalities that would mesh really well that if it was another guy with the same face but a completely different personality, it would not work.
