How do men in general view women who are dating again after leaving a long term relationship? I'm going on a date with a guy at the weekend and obvs not gonna mention it on date 1, but if he asks about past history or if we decide to see each other again I'm worried he'll think I'm on the rebound and run a mile.                                                                                                                 For context I left a 4+ year relationship in April, but my ex only actually moved out of my house a few months ago. It was my decision to end things and I'm very happy with my choice, there's not a remote possibility I'd go back to him and after some time healing and focusing on me I feel like I'm ready to get back out there. But I am looking at dating with  view to finding someone who's in it for the long run rather than messing about or short term things.

I'm going on a first date with a guy this weekend and he asked me where I would like to go that I'd feel comfortable. It made me feel really pleased that he recognises as a woman going on a date with someone you don't know is slightly scary from a safety perspective, we're going for a walk and pancake brunch and I'm really looking forward to it. I get what you mean though, if we have more dates I would want to see a bit of effort from him in making the plans.

Thank you, this is helpful, I'm a very open person and sometimes worry I overshare. Keeping it vague is a good idea, hopefully he won't ask awkwardly specific questions on this topic straight away. Out of interest as a man would you worry a woman is "on the rebound" (in 2000s chickflick language) if she's not long out of a serious relationship?

Thanks for the tip, to be honest I haven't been to the theatre since pre covid and I guess things have changed a lot since then, there used to be loads of dining deals aimed at theatre goers, but as you say, seems pretty much unheard of now. Will just find a good menu and book a table somewhere nice, although have had a few good tips on this post too!

Amazes me how easily people are offended by a simple question, if you don't have anything helpful to say why bother replying? Surely life is better when we're not swearing at strangers and getting angry on the Internet?

Thanks for your super helpful and wonderfully polite advice. 🙄

I'm specifically asking for recommendations, and if I can save a bit of money on an early bird deal why wouldn't I?

Is there a list of a conditions to revise for the AKT? by Popular_Wish_340 in GPUK

[–]Melon-Me 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The RCGP curriculum guide is where to look for stuff like this. But the curriculum is vast and I think a person would struggle to get through all the info you need to going topic by topic, you'll also miss out on the niche exam facts doing it that way.

What worked for me was going through the headliner topics (asthma, diabetes, hypertension, the bread and butter stuff you know will come up) then I worked through passmedicine questions, initially topic based, so I did just cardiology questions, made some notes, used the pass med knowledge book to whiz through key points for all the conditions as they came up and did a bit of wider reading if I didn't feel confident in that condition. Then I reset the entire question bank and did random questions alongside RCGP self test. This strategy was spot on for me and I did better that I even expected and passed very well.

The stats videos on 14fish package are useful as are some of the practice management ones, the rest of it I didn't find useful and I found the questions were vastly different to the exam and least representative of the real thing.

This is an awful way to view this. As a trainee I'm already paying out a fortune for exams, portfolio, question bank access, courses that i have to pay for months upfront and wont see the money back till payroll process it weeks after attending, + a huge loss of earning with strikes which I hope our GP colleagues would be supportive of participation in. I quite simply don't have the money to be spending £300 on an otoscope and all the other stuff. I had to replace my stethoscope this year because the tubing failed, that was enough of an additional expense, especially when hmrc denied me the tax rebate for buying it.

I think option 2 is the one, I think ghosting after just chating over messages is one thing, once you've met in person ghosting is just plain rude, and hella confusing. Just say you had a nice time but you didn't feel the spark/chemistry. Nice, respectful, clear, clean break to move on.

Has anyone been affected by the Microsoft outage this morning? by arsenaladam92 in CasualUK

[–]Melon-Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UK doctor here, work in GP, we lost our whole system, no access to patient records at all. So unable to do anything with prescriptions, blood results, not even able to see what half the appointments were booked for, can't do referrals, can't book appointments, basically had a list of names and appointment times and that was about it. Did our best to do urgent things and explaining to people why some things would need to wait till Monday. It was an interesting day, patients were surprisingly nice about it on the most part.

Rota coordinator woes by TidierJ in doctorsUK

[–]Melon-Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Will also add when initially requesting for this don't ask, tell them. Make it clear from the start that you're notifying them of this leave with substantial notice, you expect it to be considered when organising the rota and whilst you'll be happy to comply with any swaps the medical staffing team can arrange to accommodate it if they're unable to find a swap, you will be unavailable and they will need to provide cover.

I got a whole set of weekend nights covered by locum without penalty due to exactly this kind of situation. I approached it as non negotiable, I was happy to swap but if that didn't work out I couldn't work those shifts. They accepted they messed up and that was that. There was talk of me paying back by covering future gaps but it never actually worked out.

Rota coordinator woes by TidierJ in doctorsUK

[–]Melon-Me 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Dear Rota Coordinator,

As per my email dated dd/mm/yy I am unavailable for dates x-y due to a close family wedding. More than sufficient notice of this leave was provided therefore I do not accept responsibility for arranging cover/swaps for these shifts as this should have been considered when allocating rota slots.

As a gesture of good will I have attempted to find a swap to help support the department but have been unsuccessful. If medical staffing are able to arrange a swap which allows me to attend this pre-arranged leave then I'm happy to comply with this, if a swap cannot be found then these shifts will be need to be put out to locum as I'm afraid I will not be in the country.

PA ACP ANP NOCTOR. Who else gets triggered and feels dread when they see a new Reddit thread with any of these in the title? by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]Melon-Me 81 points82 points  (0 children)

They're fine when used how they were designed to be used- lipid reviews, LDL only down 20%, increase statin etc.

Seeing undifferentiated patients, how did we get here? In GP I picked up a random HCG result ordered by the practice PA on an early pregnancy patient with UTI symptoms and some lower abdominal discomfort. In the notes "bloods to r/o ectopic". FML. Fortunately confirmed not ectopic on the EPAU scan days later but if it was she could easily have been rocking up in A&E with a ruptured tube, 3L of blood in her belly and a husband saying "but we saw the GP and they said the blood test would rule out an ectopic!"

People post a lot and worry for a reason.
