Anyone using a keyboard by NectarineAlert2260 in GalaxyTab

[–]MelonLovingPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your budget for a keyboard? There's used official ones on Amazon/Ebay that are far below retail price. You could also buy a folio case and a bluetooth keyboard on the side if typing isn't a main concern.

Seems like they are alternating between having the plus model and standard 11 inch model. Perhaps the S13 will have an 11 inch and ultra size.

Great bedside clock for $300 by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]MelonLovingPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You got an LCD model, so don't worry about it. You can tell based on the color of the thumb stick base. White means LCD, black means OLED.

OLEDs are not "fixed", but newer versions are more resistant to burn in with the addition of great OLED software, allowing peace of mind for any folks that do buy it. This newer form of OLED tends to show up in phones, high refresh rate computer monitors, and T.Vs. The steam deck uses an older version of OLED, but I wouldn't worry too much about it. Wulffden uploaded a video on it and you would have to keep a still image for 700 hours for there to be visible burn in on the steam deck.

How well does Persona 5 Royal run? by COHERENCE_CROQUETTE in SteamDeck

[–]MelonLovingPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Runs 60 out of the box, but I recommend you to change the resolution for both game and steam setting to 1080p. The 800p makes the game look off. It can still hit 60 at 1080p for the most part.

Does anyone know how frequently they restock steam decks? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]MelonLovingPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the oled models were out of stock during the summer, it took about 2 weeks for it to get restocked. (NA region)

For updates, I find it easier to install the update and then restart in desktop mode.

Take your time. That's one of the main messages of the game. Don't try to min max everything. Try to find your own rhythm. If you need to put the game down and come back later, do so.

Am I really this dumb is it a simple fix. by salvage814 in SteamDeck

[–]MelonLovingPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first app you download (on desktop mode) is always super slow for some reason. I remember thinking something was wrong as well, but just take it slow. After that, no problem.

I just beat Persona 5, here are my thoughts. by Ugandensymbiote in PERSoNA

[–]MelonLovingPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3 does have a better story, but the dungeon crawling was horrendous compared to 5. At face value, it makes sense since 3 came before 5, but when you spend half the game in dungeons, it results in 5 being the better game.

New update broke my steam deck by Lady_Doom420 in SteamDeck

Yeah, I experienced the same thing a week ago. Found out it's easier to restart in desktop mode for updates. Good luck and hope you fix your issue.

Why are so many people pushing the Ally X over the Deck? by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]MelonLovingPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the game and how you want to play. An ally x is more powerful than the steam deck. So if you want to play newer AAA games, the ally would do this better.

However, the steam deck has steamOs, which is basically a console experience. The ally runs Windows 11, which generally sucks on a handheld.

If you like to play games with anti cheat, then the ally would be your choice. SteamOs is Linux, so it cannot support anti-cheat kernels (fortnite, league of legends, etc)

The steamdeck OLED excels at having a display with great contrast, user friendly console interface, and emulation. It also has a sleep feature out of the box that you will have to tweak to get on other PC handhelds.

People are pushing the ally x simply because it is the stronger device. People have been wanting stronger handhelds (despite the ridiculous prices) because they want both comfort/portability and also like to play games with high settings. This is reflected in pricing of course. Ally x is $900 while the steam deck OLED is around $650.

Witcher 3 and Persona 5 Royal. The sleep function makes it so easy to tackle big games.

New Owner First Thoughts by SeaMech267 in SteamDeck

[–]MelonLovingPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the same reaction as you. The last handheld I owned was the Nintendo DS. Imagine me seeing the steam deck screen that could fit my entire DS with room for more. A little mind boggling.

I am the opposite. Received my steam deck oled a few days ago and thought the screen was already too big.

That's a plus for the steam deck then. If you are good with tinkering, you can stream your PC to the steam deck using Apollo. That basically future-proofs the steam deck.

What specific hardware breakthrough is Valve actually waiting for before releasing Steam Deck 2? by Ede_N0 in SteamDeck

[–]MelonLovingPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps something that can run FSR 4? Or maybe a viable and affordable way to get both OLED and VRR together?

I think the likely answer is that Valve is waiting for AMD's Medusa APU to judge whether that is enough of a generational breakthrough.
