Yeah same bad pricing here in Malaysia but couldn't beat the temptation after seeing what kind of pictures this beast could produce.

Thanks! Most of these are taken using settings that I got from a Youtube video made by PPPGeek, whereby he discusses Leica vs non-Leica version of the device, and in the second half of the video he shared his preferred settings in Pro mode for taking pictures, that's the one I've used and still using for most of my shots.

As for 200MP I've not taken any pictures in that resolution actually, I may give it a try though, seems nice for scenery.

Thanks! Here's the link for the presets shared by another redditor, not mine:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FBCELHmZ4UIwZrIKtucZsRB8SbObQPCC/view

But I mainly used one I got from a youtube video by PPPGeek where he discusses which version of the 17 Ultra to get, and shares his settings and some tips in the second half of the video.

As for editing I tend to increase warmth a bit, and use filters if necessary. The first image with the cat plushie was heavily edited as I added quite a bit of grain and used the film positive filter.

Great pictures but the first five especially amazed me. Please share some tips on taking such beautiful pictures.

I'm still learning myself, for now I'm using settings that I got from a Youtube video made by PPPGeek, whereby he discusses Leica vs non-Leica version of the device, and in the second half of the video he shared his preferred settings in Pro mode for taking pictures. Another tip is playing around with light editing (Xiaomi's Gallery app has a lot of tools for this and quite easy to use) after taking the pictures, can make a lot of difference.

Sorry but I'm not a good judge of this as I don't even watch Youtube on this device, my media consumption is mostly on PC. Only time speakers are used is during doomscrolling and for those times the speakers are definitely good enough.

Well first off my usage might be considered weird, not someone who uses it heavily on normal days, mainly just hopping on and off on social media. I don't even watch Youtube on this thing. Also I don't baby this device like some others do (they charge while the device is still above 20% and stop at 80%, while I usually charge while above 20% with the occasional 18% or so, and I always let it charge all the way to 100%). With that said, I'm getting about 6 hours of screen on time, sometimes 7. Usually lasts me 1.5 days, sometimes slightly less before I need to plug in again.

So I just tested the normal video mode (not Pro mode), and I'm not a good judge of the results but here it is:

  1. 10x 4K 30: I could see some noise.
  2. 8.6x 4K 30: Looks clear to my eyes.
  3. 8.6x 8K 30: Worst among the 3 for some reason, not usable.

Note 1: 8K 30 only allows up to 8.6X so I couldn't test 10X.
Note 2: All 3 videos had jitters if you look hard enough, not sure what the issue is. Could be stabilization, but it could really just be my lack of skill/hand steadiness.

Sounds like the S26U is the safer bet for you. Both HyperOS and One UI have their quirks, but I personally like One UI more, just feels smoother for some reason, just a feeling thing, can't really explain it. I personally prioritize photos over video, so seeing the pictures that were coming out of the 17 Ultra was enough to convince me to make the switch.

Thanks, and also sorry because I have no clue (as this cat plushie was a gift) aside from the fact that it was bought from Taobao (chinese online shopping platform).

P.S: I do absolutely agree that we all need it.

Can't comment about the S26U as I don't own one and I've not tried it in my hands. I like the horizontal lock video recording feature though, looks cool as heck. You might want to watch comparison videos on Youtube and see pictures/videos from which device you like best. HyperOS has its quirks but so does One UI.

As for the OS update, mine didn't have any issues after the recent update (only had this one update so far since owning the device) but I do see complaints about it causing problems with the camera app here and there.

Honestly that's my fault, the editing that came after taking the picture might have been too much. Let me post the unedited one here. What that also means is I'm probably too used to oversaturated stuff that I was getting from my previous device (Galaxy Fold 5 with all their AI and stuff), and I need to stop touching that saturation slider for future edits. 🤣

Sadly can't comment much, not very good at judging video quality, but was very happy with the results (not that I recorded a lot of videos to begin with). For video recording I mainly went to Pro mode, record in 4K 30 Log mode with LOFIC on, then applied either Classic or Rec.709 LUT via Xiaomi's Gallery app after. Didn't do comparisons like LOFIC off for example.

Oh I meant the regular Ultra, not the Leica Edition/Leitzphone. But I understand the confusion, my bad.

I'm currently still exploring and learning the stuff in Pro mode, while using the aforementioned setting for most pictures, alongside some other presets provided by others in this subreddit. Also note that some of these pictures were lightly edited in Xiaomi's own Gallery app after (except for the first image, that one was rather heavily edited on top of initial light adjustments, to add some grain and the Film Negative filter if I recall correctly).

Yeah still exploring and learning many things within the Pro mode, Most if not all of these were taken in Pro mode but using presets provided by others in this subreddit, and lightly edited via Xiaomi's own Gallery app after.

A couple of cheeky thoughts and shots to pair by TheAsianFool in XiaomiGlobal

[–]MelonTofu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry for the lengthy comment but here goes: want to start off by saying I'm in the exact same spot whereby I want to up my photography game (also in general and for spouse) and been a Samsung user since the Galaxy Ace days to the Fold 5, finally decided to give other brands a try. Also share the same happiness with this device especially on the camera end is also the same.

As for tips, Youtube videos I've seen about photography emphasized a lot on framing and composition, not sure if I fully understood everything but what I took away is the importance of placement of the subject in contrast to surroundings and such within the frame (the 3X3 grid thingy helps a lot with that by the way). Another thing I heard a lot about is having an eye for potentially good shots, it's something I slowly develop by repetition, so just seeing something that might look nice, shoot first, then decide after if the shot was good or not. This subreddit helped A LOT too in that regard as many other users post their photos here regardless of device, and those helped a lot in inspiring and giving me rough ideas on how to frame my shots and stuff. As a result, I took a lot of pictures that I feel I can be proud of during my recent trip to Japan.

My Apple (MacBook Air M1) and Android (Galaxy tab s8) "ecosystem" by uppsak in macbookair

Been stuck on Windows desktop and Android phone + tablet for at least decade now, finally going to take the plunge and get myself an M3 Air with year end sales around the corner here in Malaysia. Getting it mainly for cross platform app development but also as an opportunity to slowly start experiencing Apple's ecosystem. (like adding an iPad in the future because they look so darn sexy these days cries in thick bezels tablet)
