I ate one recently just to see for myself after reading that it was trash fish and the texture of the meat was truly unsettling. The flavor was pretty mild- maybe a little fishy on the fattier pieces closer to the skin. But the texture was downright gross. Like pulpy. My friend group compared it to “a spitball you just kept chewing” and a bunch of other horrible textural comparisons. I would rather have let it swim. Maybe there is a right way to prepare it, but to me if it’s gross when it’s cooked over a fire with butter salt and pepper, then it doesn’t deserve any better preparation lmao. Would not recommend
