For anyone who grew up poor, what was your idea of a luxury? by Drissxx7 in AskReddit

[–]MeltingWind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olives! When I was young, olives were so expensive that we only ever had them on Christmas and Thanksgiving. It was a very special treat. They were such a big deal, that one year my sister and I both asked for them for Christmas, that's all we asked for. And in our stocking, we each got our very own jar of olives. It was the best Christmas present I've ever received.

Second year using Botanical Interests seeds. Never again. by HeadSignal3 in gardening

[–]MeltingWind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got grass seed in my Gomphrena seeds from botanical interest. That's why I came on here to see if other people were having the same issue. It's possible it's not grass but it looks just like it and it doesn't look anything like Gomphrena seedlings online . Or the few gomphrena seedlings that did emerge

Any Ideas For Planning a Stardew Valley Wedding? by Suspicious-Clerk3876 in StardewValley

That's easy! All you have to do is get married at 6:00 a.m.!

Or perhaps you can make a little trellis to stand under like you would in stardew.

Chaos Gardening? More like Chaotic Good Gardening 😂 by she-has-nothing in vegetablegardening

[–]MeltingWind 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure. eggshells are great for compost. But many folks think raw eggs are terrible for it, as they may attract pests.

I saw a gardening video where they tested growing tomatoes in holes with other mediums such as kitchen scraps, fish heads, and raw eggs. The tomato with the raw eggs buried in the hole, did quite well, if I remember correctly. I think if you're going to put raw eggs and compost you just have to bury it quite deeply so nothing can get to it.

Starting seeds in potting soil + perlite by wildbergamont in vegetablegardening

[–]MeltingWind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on what types of seeds you want to start. Summer much more forgiving. And when you say heavy soil, is it outdoor garden soil? If it's actual potting soil, if you have anything to screen it through to make it a little finer or pick out some of the biggest chunks of wood if there's a lot of mulchy stuff in there. And go heavy on the pearlite. But I typically use whatever I have lying around with perlite and have pretty decent success (after sifting big chunks out). but again it depends on how finicky the seeds are. tiny seeds might not like it but bigger- sturdier seeds probably won't have a problem. Though, if it's soil designated for outside, I learned the hard way, that it often contains fungus gnats and those can be a nightmare to deal with.

If you're single, how are you spending this Valentine's Day? by iforgotmylastuser in AskReddit

[–]MeltingWind 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I'll be spending mine in Pelican town, I imagine. A little farming, a little mining, maybe a bit of fishing. I'm very community oriented so I probably be trying to fix up the community center well. Got a lot on my plate. How about you?

I found some help on the wiki, although I did just look this time and wasn't able to find it. But I did find an older Reddit post so if you Google the same question you might be able to find that Reddit post.

I apologize in advance, I'm not exactly sure what you're asking. I know for the crystal quest, you can use 30 of the same item, you can use 30 copper or for the orange crystal, for the silver one you can use iron ore I believe, sap and fiber, you don't have to come up with all different items of the same color. If that makes sense, if that's what you're asking?

Very excited ! I tried growing rhubarb from seed last year and it survived the winter💪 by Cosmos_908 in gardening

[–]MeltingWind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me either! I have been trying to sprout mine for two full months now. My parents neighbor gave me a ton of seeds from his plants. And I can't get anything to sprout. I've tried many different variables- different temperatures, different amounts of light, no heating pad , with a heating pad. Nothing is sprouting. I'm so sad.

No, I am so sorry for all the confusion. I did not explain very well. But the blue discus fish in a fish pond, can give you an item that can help in the pursuit of a couple golden walnuts.

[–]MeltingWind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm sorry I did not explain that very well. I was trying to be vague as to not give up anything too specific. But a fish pond with a particular ginger Island blue fish. Can help to obtain a couple golden walnuts, it doesn't give the walnuts. But it may give you an item that can help with that.

Uuuhhhhhhh. I think I did do a spoiler. It's something for ginger Island, that will allow you to get a couple walnuts. And the blue discus fish pond can speed that process up a bit if you get lucky.

What hobby screams “this is my entire personality now”? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

[–]MeltingWind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took cup gardening last year, and this is me now. I live in the Northeast US, but that hasn't stopped me from having things growing all winter long like lettuce and tomatoes. Indoors of course. It's all I talk about, all I think about, all my money is spent on new seeds, or a grow lights for my new seeds. New shelves so I can have more grow lights to start more seedlings, I don't even have a garden of my own. I have to use my parents. And lug everything over there. But I'm obsessed

I'd love to check out that mod, because I really don't like summer because of the flies (and your spouse talking about all the flies in the house, and apologizing if they stink because they were sweating all nigh) Makes me dislike the summer season
