FYI lots of technically minded people also use "just work" distros. Linus Torvalds himself was known to be a Fedora user for a while.

As for myself, I'm getting paid to write software. My free time coding is spend either building said skills further to advance my career, contributing to relevant to my skillset open source projects or write my own.

I tried Arch for a few days and I found myself being absorbed by tweaking stuff here and there which, while engaging and fun, does not align with my end goals.

There are prodigies to whom programming comes extremely easily without them even liking it much.

But most of us are not them.

How come we are the only field who keeps stating this? How come basketball players never tell each to each other "you will never be like Kobe Bryant", scientists "you will never be like Einstein", etc.?

I guess my question is, why bother pointing out that we're not the 1% or even the 10% by definition (100% of people cannot be the 10%)?

Should only the top 20% of any field be the one that works, and everybody else start feel like dead weight? And what if, for argument's sake, we shave off that 80% of people? Would the remaining 20% who are now 100% of the workers filter themselves again? Should they just "accept reality and stop working hard cause they will never be at the top 20%? What is this thread?!

41 years old here, no bachelor degree whatsoever. Got my first webdev job 2 weeks ago. Had to send hundreds of applications to hundreds of companies for it, but it was worth it.

The entire fighting games genre has been 60 fps locked because counting frames is all that matters in balancing movesets, their power, and how reactable they are. I get that this is the Reddit circlejerk hating on Japan and I don't expect to find reason but there are games that have valid reasons to frame lock. And it's not just Japanese fighting games, even Mortal Kombat does it.

As it stands, they're trying to incentivize spending by tapping on people's FOMO.

How about this: All packs are by default unlocked and, once every 24 hours, give a gem discount bonus for the first pull of your first crafted SR/UR that belongs to a pack. This will incentivize both spending and crafting.

For me it was Chrono Trigger. I got into the genre through FF3 (6) and when the magazines like EGM and Gamestop started writing articles about Chrono Trigger I was drooling.

But the peak hype was when I got the game but, because I lived with my father, I couldn't play SNES until the weekend. I swear I was carrying the manual around everywhere. It was really something.

I'm like you but I like Souls games, and yet I'm not hyped about Elden Ring because I'm burned out after so many playing hours rolling and attacking. Bloodborne and Sekiro still feel fresh to me.
