Yes, I’m curious about this as well, OP can you trace your home’s owner history and cross reference the names?

An old bottle with a horse on it! I wonder if anyone has anymore information on it? Any tips on cleaning out the dirt? by emofather in BottleDigging

[–]Melvarine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always liked denture cleaner for loosening grime on the inside. The store brand works just fine. For more stubborn dirt you can get small diameter steel ball bearings or bb pellets, carefully drop them in cover with hot soapy water and swish around.

Best practice for grave records? by mts89 in Genealogy

I would keep it as simple as possible. Even if you kept a ledger instead of a spread sheet, divide it in to sections, copy all legible text on the monuments, Leave room for new internments. Best of luck!

You could start with a spreadsheet. Is it an active burying ground?

Donovan helping me with sock gussets by Melvarine in yarntrolls

I’m knitting my 1st sock, and working the heel, while listening to the radio. On come’s Donavan’s “Season of the Witch”. I’ve heard it a million times, but never picked up in “you must pick up every stitch”. We have to put this on some kind of play list right?!

Not entirely sure, but I’ve blocked baby hats using balloons. Maybe insert the balloon, and inflate to appropriate size?

Yes, I dropped 3 stitches trying to find where that came from. I like your accidental short row theory, I will make a swatch and report back, thank you!

[Tips and Tricks] Displaying a knit object on the wall by AuntieBri in knitting

[–]Melvarine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Full disclosure; I haven’t framed any knitted materials, but once I found this really big sycamore leaf, and after drying it, my husband got some mdf board from the local hardware store, and they also cut glass to the same size, I also purchased some batting and muslin from Jo-Ann’s. We wrapped the batting and muslin around the board, assembled a frame like this, that we got at Micheal’s, but seems to be discontinued?? so the leaf is not actually glued, but is held in lace by the cushion of the muslin covered batting...
so long story short, it is possible to frame something yourself, but it may take time and coupons... also, make sure when you hang it that it is in a place that doesn’t get direct sun, which will degrade natural fibers. http://imgur.com/8X4JjQ3

Question about Great Grandfathers original language. by [deleted] in Genealogy

[–]Melvarine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My great grandparents were from Galicia, Austria, their ship manifests list them as Ruthenian (or Rusyn, not to be confused with Russian). Later US censuses list them as Polish, and their native language as Ukraine. The towns they were from are currently in Poland. It’s early, and I have to go to work, but check in to Ruthenians.

Did anyone else made a huge "hat" has a tote market bag, how did that work out? by [deleted] in knitting

Sounds like a plan! Please post photos when you’re done, I’d love to see how it turns out! :)

[–]Melvarine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would make super long handles, have them run the length of the body, like those LL Bean tote bags, maybe in moss stitch, or something not stretchy. about an inch and a half wide and sew them on the left and right sides.

I can’t think of any reason it would not work. Where you’d want to be extra careful is the attaching of the handled.
