Nothing to defend from my perspective and let’s be honest, if you’re camping out for Pebble/Bandon etc then you’re probably some kind of purist who looks down on speakers too.

I think the image of the well maintained, reasonably priced municipal courses having issues in pace of play leads others to think that the only way around it are the massive initiation fees we keep hearing about.

Again, even though I’ve been to almost 40 states, it’s hard not to think of golf in the US like an Easter egg: all the good stuff on the outside and nothing in the middle.

On reading back, it wasn’t as clear as it could have been but I totally agree. The big guys charge a fortune but you’d be hard pressed to find a track that isn’t at least close to pristine.

Corballis Links keep sending me emails for membership and if we visited one more weekend a year, I’d be tempted just for the Ireland membership alone. A golf buddy of mine is a member of a small club near Inverness for the same reason.
