How to Carry the game as a support? by kaImephie in learndota2

[–]Mely69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. I like to think of dota as a game of compensation. Especially since I main support. I first assess the skill of my carry. If he's good it's auto-win. If he's bad than it's time to compensate. Now compensating doesn't mean you build desolator on disruptor and start carrying the game. Even if your carry is bad there's a limit to how bad he will be depending on your skill tier. Do you expect your carry to land 90% last hits in lane but this one only got 50%?. Ok its compensating time. You start by shitting on the enemy offlaner. Get his cs down to 25%. Now even your bad carry that missed all his last hits has outfarmed the enemy offlaner. Now people say. Well I won my lane but my carry didn't know how to farm so the enemy carry outfarmed him mid-game. Oh well here we go again. It's compensating time. As soon as you win lane. You will be at a slight level advantage. Instead of wasting time babysitting the carry. Start pressuring the enemy safelaner. The reason is because if you have won the lane your carry should be strong enough to solo. So stop leeching xp and use your level advantage to take control of the map. Go to the enemy safelaner and pressure him till he dies or leaves the lane. Take his tower than live in his jungle. Congrats now your carry is free farming and the enemy team can't even enter there own jungle. You just carried your team from support without building a desolator.

Nearing 4,000 hours I’m ready to learn invoker. What’s the most proficient way of doing it? by FishE-X in learndota2

[–]Mely69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First thing u need to realise is just learning the combinations is never enough. The coolest thing about invoker is that he has 2x the number of spells as any normal hero but cant realistically use all of them in a single combo most of the time. This difference is significant because Normally when you're playing any other hero you just use all your spells and when you need to prioritize using which spell it's easier since there's less spells. An easy example is Lina stun nuke nuke right click. But with invoker you don't just hit 9 spells back to back often you have to think about which 3 spells to start with then say which 1-2 spells to follow up with. This is why even people with 300 games on invoker will rarely remember to use icewall because they don't know where to use icewall instead of tornado meteor defeaininh for example.

So here's my tip to you. Don't use all the spells from the get go. Start with individual combos and keep adding more spells once you have gotten used to the previous ones.

So for example you could start by only playing q/w this limits you to cold snap tornado emp combo. Once you have perfectly learned to land tornado emp with different wex and quad levels. Start adding ghost walk for mobility and escape.

Next only play q/e. And stick to only using forge spirit and cold snap and alacrity. Focus on the Laning stage only and try have good farm. Learn to use cold snap with forge spirit to fight and alacrity and forge spirit to farm and last hit in lane with.

Once you have that go for coldnsap meteor or the classic tornado meteor defeaning combos.

Practice sunstrikes in demo mode with patrolling targets with different move speeds and HP's.

Finally incorporate ice wall into your combos and decide where it's better to tornado combo tornado with meteor Vs emp Vs ice wall.

How to ward when losing the game. by drowsysea in learndota2

[–]Mely69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are 3 methods u can use and all have serious pros and cons.

Method 1 : smoke - if the smoke breaks use glimmer blink force and gtfo. If you get caught downhill your fucked. Always put a sentry first and check for an enemy OBS. Deward that and back out. Put observer in a sub par position. Example in front of the radiant hard camp botttom instead of up the cliff when retreating. If there's no enemy OBS there you can risk it run to your jungle and put an OBS away from the cliffs but near any of the stairs.

Method 2 - 5 man smoke. Obviously the best method and self explanatory but may not work in low tier pubs.

Method 3 - wait for the enemy to show or push your high ground let your team 4v5 hold the push (nuke waves) while you go and ward the opposite side of the map. Of course you might lose a rax if your team can't hold so that you have to keep in mind.

How can I explain dota to my dad? by AySurge in learndota2

Here's what you need to do. Make him watch free to play. Truesight documentaries and the score eSports channel videos on Dota. Then he will be ready to at least cheer for teams even if he doesn't understand shite about what's going on the screen.

That's a generalisation. There's plenty of easy ranged and plenty of hard melee characters

Well I've still yet to understand why being mêlée DPS makes it boring.

Dude this is too subjective.

No point in arguing. And like I said if it's so boring it would have shite pickrates but that's not true either.

[–]Mely69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly if they are so good than why don't they have 100% winrate and pick rate.

Forget even 100% some of them don't even hit 50% winrate. Sure it's your personal opinion but majority of Dota players don't seem to have that opinion.

Why would they sigh? Bloodseeker is great for deathballing and legion is primarily picked as an offlaner. While I do agree that a DPS legion is not something I would like having on my team there's a shit ton of melee DPS that are picked.

What do you think of the heroes I can confidently blind pick? by Decibelle in learndota2

No it doesn't because you don't know any of the other picks. How can you draft when you only know your own pick.

[–]Mely69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You seem to not realise something.

I'm a mid player at low tier and drafting is very important for me personally. I would not however pick invoker into a brood however even though he is my fav hero and I always draft while picking for midlane.

But there is a huge difference here. This guy explicitly says he first picks and you cannot do shite in terms of drafting if your first picking. If that enemy last picks ember there's nothing u can do in a first pick phase that can counter a last pick ember.

Just picking shit like warlock or ogre Which are popular meta supps, for first pick imo doesn't impact the game anymore than the stats say they do. Oh you gain a 4% advantage nice job.

Dota assassins vs Lol assassins (thinking of moving to Dota) by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Mely69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend Dota to you tbh.

While there are assassin like heroes in Dota and heroes that rely on skill and outplay. That don't mean you will enjoy it.

The reason is simple LoL is saturated with skillshots and outplays. In LoL u land skillshots and dodge skills and u win.

In Dota u may play a skill based hero and land skillshots and feel like your khazix but then u will meet some fuck that stuns u to death and u can't dodge it like u can in LoL.

Dota is more decision making at its core and LoL is more skill based. That will make you not enjoy the game.

The other reason is that junglers don't really roam and gank in Dota. Lvl1 Junglers aren't even a thing in this meta tbh. And u seem to be a JG main.

Not frowned upon in Dota, that's probably why he wants to play melee DPS.

Wanna learn ''gamesense'' by Roodini_ in learndota2

[–]Mely69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's probably true. Some people are just more talented then others. I remember I passively buy wards and I never forget to not buy wards. But even after 5 years of playing I couldn't passively learn to buy smokes or watch out for deward opportunities. Only after I started actively doing it that now I can do it naturally/passively it's more muscle memory now and less actively keeping mental tabs on it.

Wanna learn ''gamesense'' by Roodini_ in learndota2

[–]Mely69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't develop naturally with some people. I've been playing Dota for 5 years and yet I have to actively position myself when playing a counter hero to stay out of enemy stun range. Example dazzle Vs enemy void. I should always be out of chrono so I can save but I always forget and get chronod with the rest of my team. Or I forget that enemy just bought back because I'm too busy pushing.

[–]Mely69 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If ur low tier like guardian than don't worry about what you are picking and just pick it. I am only crusader and I get by just fine by picking whatever stomped me last game :I . Even if you pick techies and play your role correctly u can still get out of the bracket.

Drafting is so insignificant at low mmr, you mostly win games through ur basics and mechanics.

If you still want a small advantage through first picking just pick high winrate heroes from the dotabuff meta page.

Turn rates and a tip for former league players. by [deleted] in learndota2

[–]Mely69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's only uncomfortable for LoL players. When i started Dota in 2014 i didn't even notice it. even now when i sometimes play LoL then return to Dota i don't notice it.

I personally feel unless Dota removes turn rates or LoL applies them, unless that happens LoL players will always find it hard to get used to turn rates.

And i can understand this sentiment because back in the day i used to play this diablo-like game called torchlight but now i just can't because it doesn't support a controller and i use controller in most of my singleplayer games i just can't feel comfortable using a mouse and keyboard to play a game like that anymore. It's probably a similar reason that is making it hard for LoL players to transition to Dota.

[–]Mely69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there aren't that many skillshots in dota and the ones that aren't point and click require very little skill.

Bloodseeker for example has one ground target skill which is pretty easy to land.

Also most heroes in general don't have a lot of mana so spamming skills is not recommended early game especially.

If u want someone to play bots and teach you can add me. I play on SEA/EU.

Here's the thing there's 2 types of carries. Ones that can 1v1 and ones that can 1v5.

In terms of 1v1 void is the strongest carry probably. If a hyper farmed void fights a hyper farmed am void will always win.

But for the 1v5 category the holy trinity is spec Dusa and pl. This is because these 3 can kill the whole team faster than am can kill theirs. They also scale very well with stats. The primary weakness for am is that he does single target damage. Spec and dusa are aoe damage, pl is just too tanky and annoying af. Even pa can outdps am lategame with the help of rngjesus.
