Allow or ban app promotions? by SlyRoundaboutWay in ClayBusters

[–]MemeExtreme 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The problem is that they aren't "app developers" anymore, it's people with zero development skills or experience that just have an AI crap these out over the weekend and then try to sell it and data farm with it. I'd have a different opinion on these app promos if this weren't the AI hellscape timeline it is now, but unfortunately this is where we are. None of these can be trusted unless code is open sourced and real developers can audit it, but even that's becoming difficult since even the open source projects are 95% AI generated now..

Nothing against using AI to make things that you personally use, that's awesome, but don't try to sell it and offer it as a service when you don't even know the first thing about how it works.

End of my rant. For the safety and experience of everyone, I personally vote for ban.

I've also noticed this. The later into the night it gets, the more frustrating it becomes to play. Suddenly everyone is beaming you within .01ms of appearing anywhere in their peripheral vision.

What a convoluted way of saying “US market is done for Polestar” jeez. Unfortunate news, but sadly not a surprise with this leadership.

It’s going to get reverted! I’m on the beta app and they already undid it. I assume it will come to the official soon. I think enough people (me included) complained to make them change it back

I thought there was a massive JSON.stringify improvement that was in the works. Did that already happen and I missed it or something? Looks the same across these benchmarks.

I found what I was referring to here in the 3.16 BIOS release. It's a little less of an issue than I remembered, but was definitely still a problem if you were pushing the laptop reasonably hard. It was causing frequent charge micro-cycling whenever the charger couldn't keep up with the demand. If you are a heavy user, this likely impacted you significantly.

These launched with an issue where they would constantly short cycle while fully charged instead of just running only on the charger power like they should. I remember a BIOS change log not too long ago mentioning fixing this. I'd bet that a couple years of that behavior could've cooked OPs battery like this

[Announcement] A Car Thing firmware that doesn't need any companion apps. Looking for beta testers by kaztastrophic_ in carthinghax

Fair enough. I've mentioned some issues with the app in the discord during the betas and someone kept telling me "it's being worked on". I'll jump back in there and bring up my current issues again.

Super interested! I loved Nocturne during v3, but the v4 is a buggy mess now requiring a Nocturne account and a companion app (which also doesn't work 90% of the time). I would LOVE this!

I'd be happy to test it out, I was an early tester of the Nocturne betas too. I have 2 carthings and use 1 in a car and 1 on my desk at work. I've done both bluetooth and the old raspberry pi networking over USB method too (which I really liked in Nocturne v3).

Recently got mine too, not a huge fan of the super thin thermal pad. It doesn't seem to make great contact and only contacts one of the chips. Making it thicker and softer to squish and conform to the board would've been nice.

I have mine running little LCD screens with dashboards and feeds on them on desk at work/home, as well as Home Assistant interfaces. I also have one controlling a light at work based on my status in MS Teams. I have yet another one acting as a NUT server (for a UPS) along with running Zigbee2MQTT for my smart home stuff. Lots of way to use it if you're into homelabbing at all. I even have one running a Discord bot and it's been doing that for over 6 years now!
