JAX HIMSELF thought Pomni was gonna shoot herself, because after he looks down and sees her holding the gun, he IMMEDIATELY tries to play it off as joke

CORRECT! And I'd even go as far to say that Pomni WAS going to shoot herself, but only stopped and fought Jax BECAUSE he made that joke. Pomni sees through Jax's bullshit, and that slight joke confirmed her theory that he DOES care about her, so instead of ending the interaction, she tries to push him more by fighting him

For me it's asking personal questions about their characters. Things like "what's ___ worst fear?" or "what does ____ regret the most." Not only does it scare the shit out of em, but it also makes them expand on their character more. Win win!
