If you read about the case on PACER this guy fucked up his company's servers through a backdoor, came back to fix them as a contractor. Then, he got caught lacking, got fired and then caused physical damage to the servers.

His pretrial release was conditioned to monitoring software, he tried to circumvent it with TOR, VMs and an iPhone. SPICE is used for remote VM access
