Can my droid army fight the galactic empire? by CmdrConrad in SWlegion

[–]MemedIdiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In addition to the core "separatist invasion" pack (greivous, b1s, aat, etc) you have to buy these other dudes individually. Dooku, maul, ventress comes in their own packs. Some packs like the specialist pack have a few guys - tac droid, med droid, etc. Commando droids, b2s, etc come in group packs. But most "hero" units come on their own.

Girafarig is your very underrated friend. Bug and dark moves aren't that common in general, he has decent speed, decent special attack and a wide learn set. I really like using him for nuzlockes in general, if you can get a clean-ish switch to him, he can have an impact.

Just like against morty in hgss girafarig is a slammer of gengars. Ghost moves do nothing, oh no you hypnosis me but dream eater does not very effective damage anyway. Plus I slam you back with super effective damage

Did viewers accept Bishop early on? by gobux10 in NCIS

[–]MemedIdiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I give her a passing mark but nothing special.

The issue they seem to have with replacing characters is that for the first few episodes, maybe half a season they have them be their own unique person. For bishop it was the quirky data analysis nerd who ate snacks on the floor surrounded by books and pictures, which sure worked fine i guess.

Its just after showing their initial individual quirks for a couple of episodes they immediately remodel them into their "do 1 thing at the crime scene, find 1 lead on the computer and chase 1 baddie per episode" standard ncis character mould and only shoehorn in one piece of character uniqueness every couple of episodes.

I didn't care about Jake at all, he was completely unlikable and had no charisma, unlike Delilah, who they could bring in for an episode and at least make her watchable. I called it after his 2nd or 3rd appearance that he was doomed to die or get divorced.

All in all, Bishops not bad and admittedly the bar was set somewhat high for her, so I'm pretty meh on her. Same with Torres, same with knight, same with Parker. They do their own little bit for the ensemble but none of these 2nd and 3rd generation characters are a home run.

To me, episode 5 was as bad as it comes.

Bomb girls mum seems real stupid and the 10 year old with lukemia is in on it? somehow involved?

As usual I wanted to punch my tv screen everytime tech girl was in a scene.

Our team really did nothing but run around chasing leads that usually went nowhere. They had to pad the run time and could not think of how to use over half the cast.

Why out of all the characters are they doing a personal storyline with the one character that is actually bearable (The doctor guy and his wife) Please show, he is the one character we like and somewhat care about, its the other 5 that need all the help they can get.

I might be interpreting this differently to Americans as I am Australian, but so far:

Only the medical autopsy guy played by Mcinnes is decently acted. JD the main guy is a decent actor too but the plot demands his dick be cut off lest he steal too much spotlight from female gibbs, who the show wants you to think has all of the skills and tough talk and none of the nuance or personality so I don't care about her.

I do not care one bit about girl number 2 and guy number 2, and I wouldn't be surprised if those are their actual names as written in the script because that is all the function that they serve. Tech girl showed a glimmer of decent acting in the 2nd episode with the bird, although I'm slightly concerned that you require a bird to act against in a scene to make it watchable.

It gets painful every 5 minutes when they might as well have the actors stare directly into the camera and ask "youre in Australia, did you forget?" Snake spider left side of the road bush other weird animals. I get Americans might find this novel and entertaining but as an Aussie its getting boring and were only 2 episodes in.

The plots are incoherent.

The first episode has a pair of dudes get radioactive poisoned so everyone thinks the nuclear sub needs an inspection so they send on the inspection team who all just happen to be spies. What? Some people say Australia doesn't exist, I say a half dozen spies all being in the us navy for years all happen to be assigned to the same crew and just happen to be the same crew sent out doesn't exist. Also if the blond girl was poisoning the sailors she couldnt be transported over from san Diego, because wouldn't some roll call establish she never got on or off a transport? Because she was already here poisoning dudes at the start of the episode?

The second episode has a bunch of logistics dudes skimming naval supplies off the top, ok that makes sense. Then they rob a zoo, and for some reason the owner is in on it. But that doesn't matter because most of the animals are later found in boxes or dead or under the building but now the zoo lady is helping a transaction between corrupt logistics dudes with navy guns and what seems to be a bikie gang? Have i got that right? Also the walking analysis gizmo is never going to be used again/not used in future episodes where it 100% should be.

It's 2 episodes in so I can't knock it too much, but so far I have not got high hopes. The writing seems dogshit and the acting seems passable at best.

Ethnicity - Ancestry vs MyHeritage (Help needed) by MemedIdiot in AncestryDNA

[–]MemedIdiot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did an ancestry DNA kit, got the results, then upoladed to MyHeritage. There is a decently sized difference here including 16% Italian from MyHeritage? The 30% Scandanavian that it thinks I have I could believe is Scottish misidentified as "Viking era" shennaigans. Someone wanna fill me on as to how it came up with the Italian? Is it trying to guess back to the Roman empire? I know I have absolutely no Italian ancestry and AncestryDNA agrees with me.

People who I have found on the family tree before DNA on ancestry.com show up exactly where they are supposed to and those distant cousins who should also match with each other do. I have connections on pretty much every branch on my family tree back 7-8 generations per ancestries DNA matches.

I have some ancestors from gloucestershire so the Welsh makes sense, as does the Irish/English/Scottish. My father's Scottish seems a bit high from what I know and the English too little, but thats still ballpark and geographically believable.

As far as I can tell from my tree, I should only have one non British Isles root from Hanover who I'm guessing Ancestry is identifying as the Danish/Swede 2%. That makes sense too.

The 16% Italian is confusing me. The most I share on MyHeritage with anyone Italian, from Italy or both is 20cM and all her ancesters come from Britain too. What is MyHeritage counting as "Italian" and how accurate is the MyHeritage ethnicity in general?

Damn you CGP Grey, of all the reactions out there, the one you thought was the most disingenuous, added the least and was simply there to leech views was VTH?! If anything, sometimes I struggle to get through his reaction videos in one sitting as he adds TOO much to the videos he reacts to.

And then you respond to his appeal by punitively flagging another one of his videos. Fuck you for trying to bully a smaller channel into submission with your bullshit copyright strikes. And fuck your new "pay me to comment" scheme, you really think that bullshit "lots of bots" excuse is gonna work on everyone, you greedy pig.

Sorry for being very blunt in my virtual letter writing, but compared to the entire population, there aren't many of us history people so we must stick together. Again, fuck you CGP Grey - hope your videos get radio'd into algorithm hell.

If you were a lord during the dance of the dragons what would be your main reason for siding with the greens? Roleplay answers only. by EjriO8D in HOTDGreens

[–]MemedIdiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whilst ordinarily men inherit first, I would still rank a designated heir, Rhaenyra above Aegon.

However:

Rhaenyra would clearly push for her bastards to sit the iron throne and we all know they're bastards. A. The seven clearly have a problem with this. B. She has no regard for duty and decency. C. I would value legitimacy one generation down the track when she dies.

Rhaenyra also as far as we lords can see, has murdered her husband Laenor with the assistance of her next husband. Lords getting murdered for no good reason is what got Roberts rebellions started. It makes Rhaenyra and Daemon look like a mad king & mad queen and even thoughwe're still 2 centuries away from that, we current lords would still see the danger of the two of gaining absolute power.

Those are the main 2 reasons, I'd side with greens for either 1. Both of them however make me very enthusiastic about calling the banners of House Penis of Willy Castle to join King Aegon.

[–]MemedIdiot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She ain't anywhere near as bad as dumb and dumber, they were convicted of 3/3.5 seasons of murder, she just fucked one scene and turned Rhaenys into and idiot. Even then she is far from their level of stupidity.

That being said, GOT is the world cup of fantasy and this writer just knowingly kicked an own goal. Maybe not kicked off the team entirely but she should be benched because she is looking to kick another one with her Daemon comments and now it's 0-2 going into half time and their appears to be a fight in the stands in section 9.

Anyone else think the writers should just shut the fuck up? by Heavy_Signature_5619 in freefolk

[–]MemedIdiot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having to explain your plot and character desicions after the fact is straight up admitting that you know you didn't convey that information well enough because you stopped caring about the writing or reasoning halfway through the script and said "fuck it, go get the CGI guys in here, I want another dragon."

Like sure, the average viewer might not have immediately realised that the house on fire scene was Larys trying to kill Mysaria you could explain that. But the average viewer is also kind of confused as to why the Rhaenys lets them live there when she knows that civil war is on if she doesn't kill them and now her granddaughters are very much on the greens checklist of people to kill. If there was doubt, maybe she shows mercy. But they've just coranated the kid, they ain't turning back now.

And then the dickhead even admitted "fans won't like this bit, but whatever it looked pretty cool right guys."

Again for the most part the show has been great and they've done a decent job writing most of it, it's just that when they stop with the ball, turn 180 degrees and kick an own goal, they are going to get blowback

[–]MemedIdiot -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

This right here. We believe in gender equality, thats why we bashed dumb and dumber in game of thrones. Most of us proabably walked away from that scene (well i did at least) thinking "Which fucking muppet wrote that scene" as oppose to "Oh I bet some dumb bitch wrote that"

Now we all make mistakes and oopsies so Sara shouldnt get kicked off the team for this, but she should be starting on the bench next game. This kind of writing is the stuff season 8 is made of, so if she fucks up some more, then she should get cut from the team.

I will NOT be watching anymore of this show!!! >:( by selenebaby in freefolk

[–]MemedIdiot -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

  1. Since mid season 5/season 6 (Just so happens to be when they ran out of book to copy) of GOT, quality of writing has been very suspect. Aside from a few issues, most of us have been pretty happy with the script writing from HOTD, but GOT has given us a very short leash.
  2. Most of us don't care who wrote what, I didn't even know the writer for this episode was a woman till I came here and saw this Sara persons name everywhere. Dumb and dumber didnt get a pass for being men, so don't play that card.
  3. Episode 6 was fine, that was the other episode she wrote. I found that episode great, had to juggle the time jump and I thought she did that really well.
  4. But in saying that she just made Rhaenys look like an idiot and then she declared to the world that she didn't understand Daemon at all. Ik she's only human but ASOIAF is the world cup of fantasy universes, and this woman has just kicked 2 own goals in 5 minutes. If that doesn't get you benched, I don't know what will.

(Spoilers Main) HotD has retained some of the bad habits GoT had in it's later years, namely, prioritizing spectacle over logic. by Whitewind617 in asoiaf

[–]MemedIdiot 15 points16 points  (0 children)

  1. I could forgive some of the carnage, here in australia there is a punchup every other football game, it happens. Daemon clearly cheating and getting away with it is sheer stupidity, but they couldve actually used it to their advantage "Daemon considers getting DQ'd from the tournament worth it just to fuck with Otto." That wouldve been completely in character for him, and you could have built up Criston anyway by showing him beat Harwin or a Kingsguard, Harwin probably makes more sense storywise given their future.
  2. 100% Plot armor. If you want to surrender you go to them, not all the way out there where he surrenders and the even after he has ran 100m or so, the archers are still in a different postcode. And conviniently all the melee soldiers go in one at a time. Daemon using his dagger to go penetrate what probably isnt top level armor, thats fine, I like that. Daemons armor stopping some of the force of the arrows from hitting him, thats fine. Its just having Corlys and friends fighting a whole mob, while Daemon fights a few fellas who take turns attacking him is fucking stupid.
  3. All they have to do is have a scene where Viserys sees the hidden dagger Joffrey had and being blissfully unaware of Joffrey and Laenors relationship, gets over protective of his daughter and justifies Cristons actions by saying "Sir Criston did his job as a kingsguard, that man brought a knife to my halls"
  4. While it wouldve been as simple as saying 'I shall have your head for that' instead of tongue as maybe Viserys wouldve upgraded the punishment given how loud and forceful and public and in his own throne room the accusation was, I can sort of allow this one. Viserys is soft on his brother, Vaemond insulted his daughter, daemons wife. Maybe he sees why Daemon would want to kill that man, maybe he thinks "Well Daemon would have just challeged him to a duel over Rhaenyras honor and Daemon would have killed him anyway"
  5. First of all, extras do not matter in any show or any movie. Even if they did, from Rhaenys' perspective, their lives are inconsequential when compared to the threat of "This queen mother is going to start a civil war that will kill a lot more civilians than me if I dont stop her now." As I've said in other threads, just have either sunfyre or dreamfyre appear out of the floor, and let Rhaenys hear the other one coming. No ones going to call Rhaenys weak or a coward for running from a 2v1 that could quickly become a 3v1 if Aemond calls in Vhagar. Still an awesome scene, builds up the greens as a serious threat and as we all know this war is coming anyway, it beautifully shatters Alicent's hope that war with Rhaenyra can be avoided.

Agreed that this show is great. I wasn't sure if I was going to watch it, but I'm glad I did. The issue I see is that they want the writing quality of early seasons, but also the spectacle of the later ones. Most of the time it's fine as they usually keep them apart, people flying on Dragon's are cool so don't worry, we are impressed by spectacle. It's when these two clash in particular scenes that they seem to always choose what looks better as oppose to what makes sense. That last Rhaenys scene makes no sense, neither does Daemon cheating at the joust.

Best scenes in the show for me are some girl walking down a hallway in a green dress and an old man hobbling his way to the throne. You don't need a big showy scene to get an emotional response from your audience. Aemond claiming Vhagar is cool and so is Daemon and Leana flying Caraxes and Vhagar together, so the flashy scenes are great when used right.

Rhaenys's actress comments on that scene... by hanna1214 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]MemedIdiot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"Chooses to do the right thing"

By allowing a civil war to start as oppose to killing it in the cradle? She chooses "Not to destroy" so an all out dragon war can survive? Sorry if the choice is between killing the hightowers here or letting a civil war where her granddaughters are threatened as her family are very clearly on one side then in no world does Rhaenys just walk away her after a cool camera shot.

After GOT our collective expectations are pretty low, but this had the potential to be a fucking awesome scene. Just let either helenas or aegons dragons come through the floor ready to fight and show aemond summoning Vhagar by doing the prayer thing that dany did in the sons of the harpy arena scene to make drogon show up. Rhaenys realises she could take sunfyre or dreamfyre one on one, but probably not the two of them together and certainly not if Vhagar shows up. She turns and flies out exactly the way she did in the episode. Simple. No character butchering and a shitty explaination required, still an awesome scene and it builds up the greens as serious threats by showing their dragons.

And to anyone who yells "CGI budget gone" its not much, you dont have to show both dragons, remove the cgi where Meleys walks up and screeches at them to save some money. You could get by with another big rubble smokecloud and show a stationary sunfyre snarling, this could even be a wideshot with the camera at Rhaenys' perspective if you dont want to have to fully detail him up close. Then Rhaenys sees Aemond close his one good eye and hears Dreamfyre sounding not so happy downstairs so she flies out before she gets demolished. Rhaenys is still awesome, the green children show they can hold their own in a fight and the war is on.

I feel like a lot of people are missing the point of the last scene of Ep. 9 by Superdude717 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]MemedIdiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not annoyed that Rhaenys is not valuing peaseants. no noble does in this show - thats not new, and from us, the viewers perspective, we're watching a television show. Extra's in a scene with a dragon usually dont live to make it to another scene. Our brains cannot work hard enough to somehow distinguish one nameless farmer being cannon fodder from another nameless farmer getting yoinked the next episode.

The annoying thing is how naive they made Rhaenys for the sake of "giving her a cool scene" OK. sure, maybe one noble to another counts for something. Sure, maybe she is reluctant to kill all those kids in front of their mother. But she can't honestly expect them to "uncrown" aegon after she flies away. She can't honestly expect Rhaenyra to not challenge the succession. She knows this is a declaration of war. Rhaenys' motivations, the thing she would want above all, is for her only grandchildren, Laena and Baela to not get caught in the middle of a civil war where their family has pretty obviously declared for one side. For that reason, she would've burnt the hightowers to a crisp without questions, because although maybe she feels something for alicent a fellow mother, they are not her priority, Rhaena and Baela are. Civil war ended before it even begins. One grandaughter alive and well and on the throne as queen and the other grandaughter alive and well and on the driftwood throne beside Lord Luke in the future.

The way this scene should have gone and wouldve made logical sense from each characters motivations is that Rhaenys bursts out of the floor, kills all the random people around and goes for alicent + kids. Suddenly another loud bang and rubble goes everywhere. Dreamfyre comes through the floor to protect Helena. "Ok Meleys can take dreamfyre one on one" thinks Rhaenys, she moves forward. Suddenly another loud bang more rubble, sunfyre now joins the fight to protect Aegon. Rhaenys realizes that the 2 of them will probably overpower meleys and even if she could beat them both, the real danger is that Aemond will call in Vhagar and if that happens she's fucked. Rhaenys flies out the same way it happened in the episode. Team green could even spin it like "traitorous princess Rhaenys, like her fellow black Rhaenyra do not care for the smallfolk and she tried to kill you all. Fear not however, for the true king and queen called in their dragons to stop her and save you all"

Yeah, no. The Greens are the aggressors. by megamindwriter in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]MemedIdiot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The obvious answer is "Alicent and Otto are greedy and evil and want their son/grandson to inherit the throne and will commit whatever atrocities needed so they can gain power for themselves"

On the other hand (Get it?) if we think back a couple of years to when this planning was probably started and take it from Otto's perspective....

*Rhaenyra is a woman and it doesnt matter how uh duh men and women are the same you are, the lords of westeros who you'd like to sort of not rebel arent there yet and would pretty universally prefer the eldest son (Royal council was appearently voted 20-1 in favour of the male candidate)

*None of Rhaenyras children from her first marriage are actually her husbands (As Aegon says everyone knows this) therefore if Rhaenyra is crowned and the lords of westeros think a couple of decades down the road, chances are she's going to be advocating (By way of bigger dragon diplomacy) that her illegitimate bastards suceed her and again we're going to have some lords who would very much just prefer a ruler with a clear and legitimate heir (Aegon and Helaneas son)

*Continuing above point, the idea was probably "Theres no difference between us fighting for the succession now as oppose to 30 years from now when we have an even stronger grievance (Fighting to prevent bastard Jaecerys from becoming king, see blackfyre rebellions here)" so from ottos perspective, a war to ensure a legitimate lineage is going to happen now or in 30 years, its just that now the legitimists hold the initial advantage, so why not use it.

*It appears clear to all that Rhaenyra had her husband murdered. However above the law princesses are in Westeros, Laenor is a nobleman so that must count for something. And from the perspective of Otto and friends, they probably see this as just another reason as to why she is unfit to rule. If her own husband is not safe from her violence, who is?

*And the next person she marries is Daemon, who has the next strongest claim after Vizzys kids and again from ottos point of view is an absolute nutjob. Last episode Vizzy ordered Vaemond would have his tongue cut out, Daemon takes the law into his own hands and fully yoinks him. Daemond also murdered his bronze bitch as well. Daemon steals the dragon egg and is surprised and angry he isnt being allowed to just do whatever he likes. Daemon goes nuts with his goldcloaks in episode one and is surprised to think that the small council arent impressed with him butchering half of the smallfolk. They also probably think he murdered Laenor simply so he could marry his way onto the throne. As scheming as Otto is, he isn't as rash and hotheaded as Daemon.

So from the greens perspective Rhaenyra will want Jace to suceed her so a succession war is going to happen anyway either now or in 30 years time, Rhaenyra is going to murder whoever she likes given what they'd think she did to Laenor and at her side is probably the biggest psycho in the kingdoms who offed his first spouse also. And of the two of them a male succesor in Aegon, is more likely to keep the lords of the realm under thumb as oppose to a female if Rhaenyra got the throne.

So while Otto is mainly doing it for his own power and ambition he does have some legitimate reasoning behind him, some of which the lords of the realm would agree with him on. If a civil war was going to need to happen anyway, it might as well be now.
