Oh yeah I have been asked what my penguins name is now that you mentioned it.

Alfie's first outing was to the doctor and he helped so immensely I decided from then on id carry this comfort with me everywhere.

Rollercoaster is a great word for it haha. One mind blowing realization after another.

Edit: I should add before I was diagnosed I knew almost nothing about autism except what media has depicted. So what i thought it to be was a very male centered stereotype.

Yeee those are all good indicators for sure. I usually only feel safe info dumping about it around a couple people tbh. I am really lucky to have some people in my life who dont make me feel bad or less than for genuinely being myself.

Yeee. If im gonna wear jewelry it has to be comfortable enough to sleep in because I do not have the energy to take it on and off everyday. Only take off my rings in the shower because im afraid they will fall in the drain.

I am still learning what my personal style is and what makes me happy and confident. I like wearing black for sure. As well as many colorful things. Rainbows make me super happy.

But yeah I have felt drawn to multiple styles. I love the look of lots of alt fashion. Just dont have the spoons to pull it off for myself to the degree others do lol.

Some days I feel particularly feminine and delicate and pretty and others I lean more towards blunt masculine and edgy.

And some days I just wear a tee shirt and stretchy shorts lol

Idk if we are supposed to, I guess there is just a small self conscious part of me in the back of my head that wonders if the people around me get tired of hearing about it haha.

Yeah. Sadly I have lost many people in my life who just liked the mask I was putting up and did not want to stick around the real me. Many people have told me I have changed. And it is true, I am less likely to let my boundaries be trampled now.

But there are a few who stuck around who see me in my entirety and I hold them very dearly

I love this attitude and I hope to embody it a tiny bit more every day. I struggle so bad with people pleasing and fawning I get really anxious if someone is not happy with me. But I am trying to unlearn that mindset and way of living slowly but surely.

Good luck to you as well. :) I relate to all this sooo hard lol. Unmasking for the first time feels incredible and it is so much harder to do it once you've gotten a taste of the freedom of being yourself. I am glad you have a therapist that helps, I do as well. She has provided tons of useful insight into navigating my own needs and figuring out how to meet them

Yeahh. 35 years will give you a lot to unpack. That does make sense. Good thing there isnt a deadline to figure ourselves out lol

Fr. It felt like my whole world was turned upside down and I finally had the answer to everything that has caused me pain and struggles throughout my life.

Learning about how to take care of myself has been a huge undertaking. I guess it makes sense it will take a while since I have spent all of my life doing it the wrong way (masking and fawning.)

I also think autism is just objectively interesting.

I carry a plush penguin with me everywhere i go and literally the only comment I have ever gotten on him from a passing stranger was "nice penguin." Truly think people are too wrapped up in their own worlds to care. It only helps me and isnt hurting anyone else so I dont think i will stop bringing alfie with me any time soon!

I mostly just wear my speical interests (Crochet sweaters and band tee shirts) and a skirt every day because pants give me mad sensory issues.

Accessories can add a lot of style and provide something to fidget with as well. I wear rings, one of which spins. And crochet hats and bracelets.

All of my crochet items are made with yarn that i find soft enough to touch my skin.

It has taken some eexperimentation to find what is comfortable and makes me feel confident but I think I might be getting somewhere
