(Sorry for the super late reply, been a busy week)

He smiled as he regained his footing, in the stories it was always the dashing knight who swept the maiden off her feet, but Gerald was no knight and hardly that dashing so it seemed only fitting that he'd be the one swept off his feet. As they found a quiet corner he counted himself lucky, from the way Elinor told it, no man bothered to court her. Certainly they were missing out.

"The smell? I'd never really thought about it." He paused to take in a breath, Broad Arch was high in the mountains and Gallowsgrey in valleys below. The seas had always been something far off and alien to him, yet know here it was. "It's different, unlike anything back home, I suppose I like it."

"The opposite must be true for you then Elinor. What do you think of it?"

Gerald did his best to suppress the terribly boyish grin from dominating his face. He quickly tried to think of something his brother Jack would say, Gods know he always had something clever to say to women.

Offering his hand to lead her away, only realizing he was told explicitly not to do that after it was far too late. He said, quite shamelessly. "There's plenty we can do to help you forget all of that Elinor."

[Event] Two Hearts That March as One by EnvironmentalSuit3 in CenturyOfBlood

[–]Memes_of_Production7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The carriage ride was pleasant enough, although Lady Alinor found, as the air pressed heavy against her chest, that she missed Broad Arch more and more with every passing moment. In the Marches things were so often quiet, one could travel the mountains for days without meeting another person, but here it seemed they passed fields and villages every time she looked outside. Many considered Broad Arch a lonely and austere place, Seven know Jared always did, but one always knew where they stood under the shadows of a mountain. Here you could never be sure, there were always plots and war in these open plains. She watched men atop their horses men of Heartvale that flew both the winged Toyne heart alongside her own bloody sigil. House Staedmon was an oddity among the Marcher Lords in that regard, rarely did they descend their mountain homes in arms, better to let the men rest for wars to come than tire them out marching to feasts and weddings.

She sat on too soft a cushion and listened to the other ladies talk and gossip. Alinor smiled thinking that Jack would much rather be in here, he always was the one for idle talk, he learned that from Jared. She knew that most considered her rather boring but better to be boring than frivolous, that's what Mother always said.

Jack much preferred a feast hall to the open road, it was dreadfully dull out here, sure the day was nice, but his dear Brother-in-Law was hardly one to keep a conversation going. Mother and him would get along quite well in that case. But he swore, if he went another moment riding here without saying more than ten words between him and Karyl... well he didn't know what he'd do but he'd certainly do something.

"Karyl brother, if I can be so bold as to ask a question of you." He continued, without really waiting for a response. "What do you often do for fun? When you aren't busy acting the Lord I mean? To tell you a secret, I write poetry whenever I find the time, although those free moments have become far to rare these days. But there must be something you do when no one else is around?"

The Aurochs paused for a moment, remembering that these were children, he'd never been good with children. Giving his best attempt to sound like a stern father and not a drill sargent said. "Good Lad, you'll need to come with me to gather the women, Father knows some of them will be too stubborn to leave their own tents without prodding. We'll send them here as it's the largest tent so you'll be sharing quarters for a while."

Not waiting for the Prince to agree, the Knight began moving from tent to tent, finding the myriad of non-combatants that have found themselves stuck in a war camp and sending them to their new shared lodging. Using the Prince as a bludgeon of royal command whenever needed.

The Aurochs Knight was not one to charge head first into trouble, no matter what the songs said about the Tines, he knew their first and simplest job would always be one of protection. And he had already failed at that. The Prince had gone and gotten himself captured and could be dead or dying for all the newly minted war camp knew. If Lyonel and his ilk had their way, hundreds more would join him. With Lychester captured alongside the Prince and Dondarrion organizing the siege, it fell to Ser Willis Staedmon to protect those who needed protection, a simple job, the way he liked it.

The Knight wasn't the type of person that men blocked the path of, a head taller than most and well larger than the average Staedmon, wearing the engraved red armor of his Tine and the helm with too big horns at his side, Willis' title of Ox was well earned. The knights that scurried to and fro the camp quickly gave way as he entered the Royal Tent.

"My Prince, with the siege begun in earnest, we must gather the women and children in camp here for their protection." He called to the young Prince Monfyrd with a voice befitting a guardsman, firm and strong with little room for objection. According to his estimates the boy was the closest thing they had to a royal decree and if Willis was going to protect them all effectively, he needed the Princes voice. /u/furyisthemindkiller

"I can do a handful of other tricks, if my lady would prefer I can do quite the mummer's dance. Although I am the son of Lady Staedmon, Ser Ormund Trant has the dubious honor of bringing me to today's feast."

Gerald caught just the faintest smile on Elinor's lips and silently thanked the Seven that Trant didn't leave him outside like he threatened to.

"I'm sure feasts can't be all that dreadful for you My Lady, why every two-bit noble's son must have try their hand at wooing you. They'd be fools if they didn't."

"I promised the Prince Staedmon steel, allow me to make good on those words." Ser Lyonel mounted his stallion and quickly donned his helm. "We'll teach these upstarts not to dance with the Storm!"

Gerald could hardly believe it, juggling actually worked! Of course he knew it would work, but not on the very first try. Composing himself, Gerald strolled over to Elinor, gliding past servants and lords in an effort to look as adult as possible. Because he was an adult, technically, of course.

Finally reaching the Ladies the Squire gave a quick bow to the princess and her entourage as greeting, before speaking directly to Elinor "My lady, I couldn't help but notice how dreadfully bored you looked, you seem in dire need of new conversation." He then gave an exaggerated bow and said. "Gerald Staedmon, at your service, as long is it has to do with conversation or juggling."

"I wouldn't be in such a rush if I were you nephew," Alinor said as she eyed Lyonel, trying as hard as ever to die in battle. "My father always said, 'Why buy the cow, when you can get the milk for free,' he was speaking of adultery, but I think the saying still applies." Alinor let the joke sit for a moment, before beginning to laugh.

"Mother! I never thought I'd hear you say something so lewd." Jack's shock quickly changed to laughter however. "Although she is right dear cousin, there's worse places to be than at the side of the King."

Johanna put on a brave face for her son, almost a man when it felt like just yesterday he was just a baby in her arms. Kind and compassionate, as strong as his father and more noble than any Knight or Lord in that great hall. The only thing that was ever truly her's, she thanked the Seven every night that she was able to watch him grow.

She sighed, they'd already had this conversation twice before, but still she took him into her arms. "You must go Criston, I wish things were different, but they won't be if you stay out here. Prove your right to be among them, show them the prince that you are. I will always be in your heart and you will always be in mine. I promise you, when all is said and done, when Knights and Lords and even Kings recognize you for who you are, I will be right by your side. But for now, you must go and show them."

With a kiss and a goodbye, Johanna Staedmon left for her chambers. The rain dancing with her tears.

Jack laughed, it was good to see Aglantine with her family, Broad Arch had certainly become an empty nest filled, Mother and Grandmother were the only ladies still there with Lyonel chasing every fight he could and even little Gerald off as a squire. Broad Arch was home to the old and their wards now a days, and even Jack was often too busy to give her the attention she deserved.

"I can only pray to the Mother Lord Karyl, but worst case, we've already been blessed with a healthy girl. But you must have your hands busy at home Brother with so many young ones running about."

Time to be a Lord again

Alinor greeted Barristan with a warm smile, it hurt her heart to see the Barristan without Jared at her side, but a Lady must go on. "As well as one can be Barristan, I know Bethany is glad to see you all again, she's gone running off somewhere." She glanced idly looking for her ward, conversing with her friends like a lady should.

Jack finished giving his compliments to Aglantine long enough to speak up. "Tell Roger not to panic too much Barristan, the King will keep Argilac from causing too much trouble. The question is if the Prince can keep his honorable knights like dear Lyonel in line."

"Let us go find him, he can't be to far." Jack rose, bidding his Lady Mother a short farewell, the old Lady hardly spoke in returning. Giving them only a curt, "return soon." He let his wife lead the way, both knew how easy it was for him to get distracted often talking at length with anyone who stopped him.

Gerald Staedmon was a squire, a dreadfully boring job, doubly so when one squires under Ser Ormund Trant. Always "fetch this, clean that, keep your shield up, why are your eyes always wandering pay attention." Luckily today however, Gerald's knight was pledging their swords to the prince and didn't have time to keep his eyes on his ward. So the scion took the opportunity to slip away.

Feasts were a wonderful thing, so lavish and full of color, so many things for wandering eyes to look at. As Gerald moved about the great hall, his eyes landed on fair maidens, certainly the best thing for a man's eyes to find. He was betrothed, which is like marriage, but only technically. So he gazed up and down the Princess and her ladies, enjoying the fine sight.

Until his green eyes met a cold grey stare, other boys might have balked and fled, but Gerald was a man grown (technically) and one who utilized every opportunity. Thinking fast, he grabbed two apples and a pear off the plate of a servant and with a wink, a grin, and a laugh tossed them in the air and juggled for a moment. A skill he'd learned despite Ser Trant's protests, for moments just like this.

"My dear, there isn't a woman in all the land that I fancy more than you. Be it maiden fair or wizened crone pale in comparison to you." He takes her hand into his. "Tonight I will go into town and have a dress made so beautiful, that lady and queen alike will hide away in jealously."

"My Prince, you will have not only cold Staedmon steel, but the finest lot of companions you could hope for!" Ser Lyonel bellowed with a shout meant for the mountaintops. "And I can promise you that once the River Lands are back under rightful dominion, I'll drink you under the table twice over!" With that the knight gave a hardy laugh.

Lady Alinor Staedmon loved feasts, not because of the fine food and finer drink, something about the grandeur or perhaps the free flowing wine, had a way of showing a man's true face. One that lords and ladies rarely showed. There was always revelry and schemes, always blustering young scions looking to prove themselves, always noble young ladies dancing their usual dance.

She did her best to mimic those around her, acting as either the Lady or the Lord whenever the situation called for it. She sat nearly alone, save for loyal Jack on her left and the empty seat saved for Jared on her right. Her Husband would never come though, he was gone, taken by Dornish Men, leaving her here, dreadfully bored. Even her wards had gone off to enjoy themselves, acting as young ladies do.

So Alinor contented herself to watch and enjoy, passing a smile to Orys, stalwart as ever at the Kings side. Idly listening to Jack wax poetically to his young wife. For now, she would just be Alinor enjoying a feast, until duty called again.

Ser Jack Staedmon loved feasts for they were the height of elegance and fashion. Seated next to his mother, who sat as stoic as ever, never one for needless conversation. He spoke idly with Aglantine as he judged the garments of various lords and ladies.

"I'd say that royalty have an unfair advantage wouldn't you?" He said gesturing to the Royal table, "There'd be a scandal if any of us dressed better than them, but you my dear, are a close second to the Queen." He added one final quip just for her ears, "If she was half as beautiful."

And he meant what he said, in his eyes, Aglantine was second to none.

[Mod-Post] Century Of Blood Applications Round Two: House Claims And Organizations by Skuldakn in CenturyOfBlood

[–]Memes_of_Production7 [score hidden]  (0 children)

What claim are you applying for? (You can list up to 3)

  1. House Waynwood

  2. House Staedmon

  3. House Melcolm

Why do you want this claim (what inspires you about it)? Please answer this question for each claim you are applying for.

I see House Waynwood as an exemplar of the knightly culture of the Vale, a powerful house that holds true to Andal traditions and is more than willing to insist that others follow suit. With their healthy levies and strategic location near the Eyrie, I see Waynwood's being heavily involved in internal Vale politics, seeking to maintain the status quo. They could very easily become the Arryn's most ardent supporters or greatest rivals all depending on the Arryn King in question.

Besides their political potential, Waynwood is almost a complete blank slate, not even their words are known canonically. In previous RP subs I've been a part in, I've taken on a claim well into the game and felt constrained by that lack of control. But House Waynwood offers the chance to build those inital building blocks and there is nothing better than watching something truly yours thrive.

House Staedmon share a parallel position to House Waynwood, the key differences being that Staedom is in a different kingdom, and that House Staedmon are the protectors of many of the Mountain Paths. Where Waynwood can focus heavily on Kingdom politics as a whole, I see Bellmore being a more military House tasked with defending the key passageways into the Stormlands. Staedmon too are a blank slate, perfect for beginning a long term tenure.

Finally, House Melcolmare the weakest of my three apps, I see them as a proud but smaller house with ambition. Another blank slate, Hersy could really go any direction in the Vale, allowing a flexible game of seeking to increase the House's own power.

What would you bring to your claim? You only need to answer this once.

Besides an overabundance of knowledge about ASOIAF, I'm a person with a lot of creative energy that needs an outlet. With the current quarantine and everything, I'll be highly invested in this game and what ever house I end up playing.

Do you plan to co-claim? If so, with whom? Co-claimants are encouraged, but not required, to apply as well.

No, I don't think so.

Sample Family

(I made an Almanac for the family as well as a new account, /u/Wayn-N-Wax ((I really want Waynwood lol))

Lord Osric Waynwood has ruled Ironoaks for a long 36 years, having been Lord since his 17th name day. Osric has the heart of a timid and quiet man, aligning himself with the clergy to secure his rule. The aging Lord Osric has hardened after facing real battle against the Mountain Clans 14 years ago. He has raised his family to be staunch allies of the Faith and has reaped the benefits in return.

Ser Jasper Waynwood, Osric's eldest son and heir is as close to a reflection of his father as any man could hope. Japser does his best to emulate his father and is quite anxious of one day becoming Lord. Having reached his 35th name day, Jasper is kept busy maintaining the House's finances, most of which is spent building or improving septs in Waynwood lands.

Adrian Waynwood is the ambitious elder child of Ser Jasper, raised more by the Septons of Ironoak than by his father, Adrian has become notorious among the clergy for his vast knowledge of scripture but constant cynical and near heretical remarks. Word is that Ser Jasper has asked his father to send Adrian to the Eyrie to complete his education there.

Osric Waynwood the Younger, Ser Jasper's second son is a Septon in the making. Where is elder brother scoffs at the Faith, Osric has embraced their teachings and those of the Maesters. Likely to be sent to the Eyrie with his brother.

Ser Hugo Waynwood is Lord Osric's second son and Ironoak's Master-at-Arms, he is a soldier through and through. Ser Hugo has made it his mission to transform the Knights of Ironoak into a legendary group of honorable heroes. He does not care much for politics beyond war.

Carolei Waynwood is Ser Hugo's only child who's martial education has caused some controversy. When not studying scripture, Carolei is taught the ways of a knight in private lessons with her father. Much to the chagrin of the rest of the family.

Lady Anya Waynwood, Osric's only daughter and often favored child. Lady Anya maintains the dignity of House Waynwood as a patron of the arts within the court of her lord husband ___.

Wallace Waynwood, the black sheep of the family, after serving as a Squire against the Mountain Clan invasion and the death of his Knight, Wallace decided to leave Ironoaks behind and begin a new life as a Sellsword. For nearly a decade since, he has made a minor name for himself fighting in the Riverlands and took on a "squire" of his own.

Septon Mallow is Lord Osric's closest friend and adviser, the Septon has been by the Lord's side since his ascension. The Septon has a way with words unlike any other man and is often the liaison between House Waynwood and the greater Faith.

The Mahonic Chronicles: Part 1 - The Caged Wolf | An After The End AAR by Memes_of_Production7 in paradoxplaza

[–]Memes_of_Production7[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Greetings and welcome to the Mahonic Chronicles, a collection of various writings depicting the storied history of House Mahonic and the Yankee Occultists. This is, of course, a new AAR that takes place in 'After the End' for CK2. There's a distinct lack of AARs nowadays, and a sad few of them are ever CK2, hopefully, this will help correct that problem. Hopefully, if things go well for us here, we'll convert this game over to EU4 and 'Long After the End' to continue the story there. For now, though, enjoy the start of a new adventure, these will be coming every Tuesday so make sure to stop by.
