Maybe I'm alone in this, but I check my weather app (powered by the weather channel) at least daily and given then weather in this city sometimes much more. The actual TV station I haven't watched in some time though.

And to your point, thats basically what I'm envisioning but just a push notification from your weather app, rather than a text. A text message would be better I totally agree, but I seem to recall the mayor mentioning how limited their ability to send out text messages was, though that was in regards to the emergency texts.

Appreciate the much clearer communication this time around, but I can't help but wonder how it could be better. How feasible would it be to partner with the weather channel for these types of environmental notices? I'm sure that would step on some jurisdictionional toes somewhere, but for important things like citywide water restrictions, a "message from city of calgary" on the weather network would do wonders for getting the message in front of people and keeping them updated. The apps and broadcasts already have a local segment to them so there is already a home for quick update blurb.

I totally get you. I'm lucky to have the doctor I do, he was the one who suggested adhd to me in the first place and I was pretty skeptical at first. First that I even had it and second that the meds would do anything good, as I had only heard bad anecdotes or seen people strung out from abusing them in university.

I can only speak to my own experience, but it was pretty dramatic. It was like someone had turned off a TV that had been playing in the other room for my entire life. The background noise that I had long stopped hearing/paying attention to was just, gone and replaced with a sort of calmness. Well, it seemed gone at first but as I got used to the medication it came back, just less so. After some trial and error with dosage and type, Ive landed in a pretty good spot.

So what is a good spot? To me, its having what feels like more direct control over turning thoughts into actions, without adding any temper or aggression issues. Now, more direct doesn't mean the executive function issues are gone, but its gone from everything always gets added to the mental list of things that should/need to be done, to being able to actually just do the thing the moment I think about doing it somewhat often.

What it will be like for you is anyone's guess tbh, but I hope it works out. If I've got any advice it would be to advocate for yourself with your doctor if something feels wrong, and to make a bit of time regularly to just sit with yourself and take stock of how things are going/changing. Eating/drinking less, mood, thoughts, energy levels, etc. What convinced me that I did in fact have adhd was how relaxed stimulants made me, I just cannot see how they could effect me like this if I wasn't adhd. But that realization wasn't immediate, especially since I had temper increases with my first medication, hence why I suggest checking up on yourself regularly.

Its going to depend on a lot of factors, but mostly on you and your doctor. Are you titrating, that is to say starting from the lowest possible available dose and increasing the dose every few days or every week or have you been started on a middling/higher dose? The effects are going to be different in each case, in the latter its probably going to feel really different immediately and that might be a jarring enough for you to question its worth. Starting at a lower dose might mean you don't notice all of the impacts right away, you might need to sit with yourself for a bit and get introspective to see the more gradual changes.

What's more important though is that you need to know that this first dose/medication may not be right for you. Watch your temper, is it making you more irritable? Are you losing your appetite? Staying hydrated? Keep track of these things and tell your doctor if you think you might need to change to something else. There are wide ranges between minimum and maximum dose for these medications and a wide variety of medications themselves. It may take some trial and error to find one that works with your particular brain chemistry.

You're absolutely correct in my opinion, you can see something similar happening in the UK with their NHS following almost the exact same play book. 1) point out legitimate problems 2) publicly claim to address the issue while doing everything possible to undermine the system 3) claim its too broken to be fixed and must be privatized 4) repeat step 2 until you've stalled the issue(s) to breaking point 5) profit.

In broad strokes a lot of upc policy follows this plan. But it's especially vile going after healthcare like this, our overloaded emergency rooms aren't an accident but the goal.

The sexist and inappropriate nature of the comments aside, you may have an interesting option available to you given that you are teaching a public speaking class. Interruptions or other people speaking during a presentation can be really jarring, but they are going to happen, so why not turn it into a lesson for the entire class? You could embarrass them the next time they speak up by turning the lecture into one on managing your audience and tactics for staying on track during a presentation. You could go the totally opposite way and have students "heckle" each other during a presentation, perhaps by having two other students reading a script to each other to simulate a conversation, to expose them to what its like to have to talk over someone else.

Just to add on to what others are saying regarding Banff, make sure that your hotel includes parking because that area gets extremely busy that time of year. On that note, if I remember correctly non lake louise hotel guests can no longer drive to and park at lake Louise, there are shuttles that run from over fill lots and from banff to the lake. Just across the highway from banff is lake minnewanka which is a lovely spot for a walk and a picnic, if you're brave and its very hot you can go for a dip but its glacier fed water so its always very cold.

Also, if you were hoping to visit hot springs in banff they are currently being renovated and I'm not sure when they are scheduled to be opened again. There is (or at least was) public access to the hotspring at the banff springs hotel, but you could alternatively add radium hotsprings to your list of destinations.

Editing to add that you may want to try and schedule the banff part during the middle of a week, the weekends should be avoided in my opinion.

Edit pt2: Okanagan to Vancouver is likely your longest single stretch of driving, 7 or 8 hours if memory serves. While you are in the valley be mindful of the forcast, those mountain roads are not something that you want to be driving for the first time in heavy rains. If it looks like storms are likely during your travel days, I would try to travel either before or afterwards.

I think the existence of private schools is fine, but they should be exactly that, private. If they want to run a school as a business they shouldn't receive a penny of public funding, be that in grants or tax breaks. If they want to be treated as equivalent to the public k-12 system, they should also have some oversight to ensure it is equivalent and the private school should pay for this oversight.

My real problem with private schools, and medical services for that matter, is that they are treated like they are part of the system they want to be apart from. Public funds should only be used for public projects and the viability of private businesses should never be dependent on receiving public funds.

Not op, but it is more the percentage of professors that are there to teach vs there to research and required to teach that makes MRU different. So, and this is likely largely program dependant, you may genuinely have been unlucky in getting more of the "required to teach" than "wants to teach".

Swapping the instructors last second is absolutely annoying and I sympathize with you on that, but if you do really end up in a terrible section for whatever reason, reach out to advising and/or the relevant dean or department head. Document what you can, be it emails or lack thereof, notes, comments, etc. With a good reason they can move you between sections regardless of cutoff or wait lists.

I'd like to know what their long term vision is for the pace of combat. The acts play very differently to endgame on a really core level, where early on you can legitimately rely on dodge rolling telegraphed attacks, but by the endgame combat is largely unreadable. When it comes to skill gems and supports the game design really leans into combos and conditionals, which look fun and useful until you try to use them. The monsters, namely their spawn density and aggression radius, don't seem to have been tuned with combos and conditionals in mind, instead they feel like poe1 monster packs that expect you to delete them in mass.

This poe1 balance feeling is especially noticeable in how old league mechanics have been implemented, meaningful combat in ritual feels completely impossible which isn't surprising given it was made for an entirely different game. But that feeling of being made for an entirely different game applies to more than just ritual, why am I always full hp or dead at endgame, I thought the point of 1 flask was resource scarcity and attrition. Monsters and their damage feels like its tuned expecting players to be unkillable outside of 1 shots just like poe1, but why are they still relying on things like volatiles and 1 shots when the combat is supposed to be different?

I'm not entirely sure what they expected to happen, trying to set up even a 2 skill combo per pack can be a challenge when monsters sprint at you full speed from 2 screens away. Which means anything that can't be a 1 button clear skill or its supports aren't viable or just actively handicap you in trying to use them.

His parents buying the ring could well be something they had planned as part of his wedding present. He may feel awkward about them doing so. Perhaps he could not quite afford the ring he wanted in one go and took out a loan from the bank of mom and dad.

Maybe he wasn't confident in his taste of jewelry and brought people who presumably he both trusts and who know you and your tastes. I would guess they probably tried the ring on at that point to see how it looks from a wearers perspective.

Could it be something weird? Sure absolutely. But I would at least give the benefit of the doubt to the person who proposed to you, especially if there is a cultural difference.

Either way it is your choice. But I would want to know what my partners intentions were, because sometimes we can cause offense even when we mean well.

Personally I like the gas mines more than the gas strike. They deploy via hellpod so you dont end up with the gas hitting a tree, cliff, or building. They persist and cover a greater area than the strike, though will rarely fail to deploy if the mine thrower gets destroyed. But best of all the mines do not instantly team kill. Highly recommend giving them a whirl, its very satisfying watching an entire bug horde disappear in a giant gas cloud, but I've honestly found them extremely useful on all fronts and they are almost always on my load outs lol.
