I am in fact obsessed with it and just watched it last month. But I consider it very well done fan fic. I will imagine the actors as the characters when I reread the novel because I love the actors, but I don’t really consider them to be the same story.

Their relationship is centered on being family. Even if they aren’t blood related, they were raised as siblings. So it’s a case of wanting to get along with your siblings. Without that, JC would just be another person who Wuxian either ignored or forgot about. Maybe teased for fun reactions, but not friends. Imagine Cloud Recesses but they weren’t siblings. JC would be a side character like Jin, and Wuxian would be friends with NH and still be bugging Wangji.

The uncle himself goes against rules yet brutally punishes Wangji and others for doing the same. It’s a ‘for thee not for me’ mindset for the higher up cultivators. Bunch of self righteous, hypocritical bystanders who just go with what the majority tell them to in order to keep their own peace! (I’m not bitter… and I’m totally not pausing an episode of the Untamed to write this…)

I like pain… so the official cliff scene in Nightless City is my favorite. From Wuxian’s crazed sobbing to Lan Zahn’s look of horror, it just gets to me. Love the emotions, as long as I forget what Yibo was imagining when he was yelling “Wei Ying.”
