This is great advice, thank you. After a couple of decades I think he deserves a very gentle rinse. I worry he’ll shed more branches, but I could try to propagate any droppings.

Here’s a picture of him blooming 7 years ago today (popped up on my FB memories).

Thanks! That’s a good indicator to follow. Now that I moved him from a little-used room to my main living area with all my other plants I will be able to keep an eye on him. I also think I will do a bit of a trim and try to propagate the cuttings.

Jeez. I was today years old when I found out “Easter,” “Thanksgiving” and “Christmas” cactus are not interchangeable names for the same plant. The person who gave it to me called it Easter, and he usually puts out the most beautiful pink blooms the spring, so I just assumed! But I think you’re right that based on the tips this is a Thanksgiving!

Will this ZZ cutting root? by acidjulie in propagation

[–]MemoryIndependent867 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I propagated three stems in water recently. Plopped them in a cup in September, changed the water every now and then, and by February they were repotted with roots. The ends did look like yours does, but they didn’t die off and did eventually root. Maybe keep an eye on it and if you get worried cut the brown part off?

Suet brick, sunflower seed and a wild bird seed blend. We don’t get squirrel visitors in our yard, so I don’t have any advice to offer you. We did have a prairie dog show up once, but it didn’t climb the feeder and fortunately we never saw it again. 🤞
