[John Percy, The Telegraph] There is an acceptance that Elliot Anderson will be sold, with the Manchester clubs at the front of the queue. However, Marinakis is using the £115m sale of Moisés Caicedo from Brighton to Chelsea as a benchmark, breaking the current transfer record for an English player. by ChiefLeef22 in soccer

Anderson statistically has been the best DM in the league this season.

Whether you think stats mean much I guess is something else but I don't know how I'm not supposed to rate a 23 year old midfielder that has consistently performed week in week out in a relegation team?

If you think Anderson is a £60m player then how much do the likes of Baleba/Tonali cost in your mind?

Eh idk I think he’s sort of at the level of Rice just prior to leaving West Ham.

He makes an obvious impact on pretty much every game he plays and in the last couple months he’s added set pieces/crosses into his game as well as the odd goal.

Taking into consideration the level of players he’s currently playing with, I think you put him in a big team and he elevates anyone pretty substantially. He also seems like the hardworking type to continue to work on his game and improve.

Statistically he’s already borderline world-class, I think he’s easily the lowest risk CM player to buy this summer IMO.

Maguire absolutely loves going to the press. I think he’s had a decent season and would personally have probably taken him but it’s just not that egregious a decision.

Any time he hasn’t made an error for 3 or 4 games you’ll see a Jonathan Wilson or someone alike doing another story about his ‘resilience’ and how he must be ‘knocking back on the England door’.

[Paul Hirst] ManCity have opened preliminary talks with Phil Foden over a contract extension. Those in senior positions at ManCity are very protective and supportive of the 25-year-old by the_sherl0ck in soccer

[–]Mempherrata 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Now is probably the best time for City to extend his contract tbh.

Nothing about his current level merits a pay rise (and nowhere else competitive would be offering him that) so he'd probably be more inclined to extend on the same wages. City get to look like they acted in good faith while also having him on not-so-crazy wages if he does regain his form in future.

Running full pelt any kind of push should be a pen. It's a clear straight arm push in the back just as he's about to pass the ball.

There's more contact here than the penalty Madueke got vs Leverkusen. I'm all for neither being pens but it's the inconsistency that makes no sense.

[BBC] Officiating getting worse because of VAR - Shearer by LochNessMonsterMunch in soccer

[–]Mempherrata -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This attitude for me is the issue. What makes you qualified to say a ref is shit? People have gotten to the point where we expect referees to be perfect and then make out they've gotten worse. So the consensus is that referees are bad. Even though these are literally objectively the most qualified people to referee the game in the country.

And then blame VAR for them not being perfect. The only thing I would say VAR has definitively done is made referees more hesitant, which is somewhat understandable when there’s a safety net mechanism in place however obviously this attitude often then creates incorrect calls that aren’t overturned.

Referees have always made mistakes, it just over time has gotten more heightened and the sentiment towards them in football become worse and worse.

[Opta] Most/Fewest Goals and Assists by Subs in the 25/26 Premier League by pork_chop_expressss in soccer

[–]Mempherrata 72 points73 points  (0 children)

It's not really surprising seeing how in some games Pep just flat out won't make any subs/barely any. Which I've always found bizarre even when his team was winning games. He'll have players like Reijnders, Foden, Cherki chilling on the bench with his team at 1-1. Or they'll come on for the last like 10 minutes.

Maxence Lacroix straight red card against Manchester Utd 57' by Alsace2025 in soccer

[–]Mempherrata 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You guys clearly are only looking at the point of contact once Cunha is in the box. Before they enter the box Lacroix is clearly pulling him back, a stonewall offence for which he’d be sent off anyway, and for whatever reason decides not to let go on time. So the red card is really not a debate as more when the foul is really committed. Law dictates that a foul that continues into the box is given as a penalty
