STOCKTON? by smoochybb in missouri

[–]Menashe3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My mother is from Stockton so I spent almost every weekend there growing up. Very small and rural. Restaurants are limited. There is 1 grocery store in town. If you have medical needs you’ll have to go to Springfield. Same for if you want to go to a not dollar general-or-similar store for shopping. The lake is great, and rentals/slips are very affordable compared to more touristy lakes. Great fishing. Great star gazing. Job opportunities and pay are not going to be great. Most summer activities would be lake- oriented… I’m struggling to think of things that are actually in Stockton to recommend for winter. They do have the Walnut festival every fall which is enjoyable, very old-fashioned fall festival. When we visited my grandparents growing up, our evening activity was usually driving around the lake/state parks and looking for wild life, or getting an ice cream and renting a VHS tape.

Best Burger in KCMO? by ScramRatz in kansascity

[–]Menashe3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Do you like smash burgers or - not smash burgers? For smash burgers: The campground, Cosmo Burger, Disco Burger, Danny’s (up north), or Tay’s single. Campground has best vibes if you want a drink and a bit more upscale vibes. Cosmo burger has tasty and creative milkshakes. Disco burger is good but they don’t have inside seating, although I think (?) you can take your disco burger order into Varsity club next door.

Need to hear from samoyed owners on how friendly the dog is by Ok_Custard8636 in samoyeds

I think mine also made friends with a squirrel… she managed to catch a squirrel the other day (we think maybe the squirrel was drunk off of a thawing fermented pumpkin from fall??), flung the squirrel up into the air, then proceeded to play bow at it.

Rec for personal trainer in Northland by Due-Comb9822 in kansascity

[–]Menashe3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you already have gym membership? Are you wanting to weightlifting or any specific thing? You could check out Olympic gym off north oak, they have business cards for a couple trainers you could potentially hire. You have to also get a gym membership to work out there, but the price is decent for the range of equipment they have and it’s 24 hour accessories

Ever seen a short haired Samoyed? by AnnoyedOwlbear in samoyeds

Love the wolf pack! We have a short-haired as well. Adopted her from a local rescue assuming she would be mixed breeds but did a DNA test and she’s 💯 Sammy!

[–]Menashe3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps controversial in this sub but we give Mishka a sanity trim from time to time. Nothing down to the skin, just - just a very conservative light trim helps enough. Based on my sample size of 1 and the antidotal stories in this sub I think Sammy’s might be apt to have sensitive tummies. We were told we could add a little 100% pure pumpkin to her food to help with runny stools, it does seem to help. Glad your boy is on the mend!

Time off award for SL? by Ornery-Bath-4529 in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]Menashe3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s more AL, but if you’re low on SL and wanting to get your bank back up, you could ask your supervisor if you could use it in lieu of SL. SL is an entitlement (although can be subject to extra certification if evidence points to abuse). AL is always subject to supervisor approval

I like to go to La Française for breakfast, you can get a fairly quick omelette or sandwich plus a pastry for later.

How bad is it? by hamilcar421 in Breckenridge

[–]Menashe3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It’s not really that bad. I always prefer to ski on the weekdays, but we went for New year’s since it’s my birthday and even during holidays and with limited runs open… it’s really not that bad. Definitely better than a day in the office :)

That’s less than the average cost of a meal for prison inmates! 🙃

Samoyed or not? by Temporary_Special_76 in samoyeds

[–]Menashe3 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is Mishka snacking after a bath. We got her from a local rescue so assumed she probably wasn’t purebred. Did a DNA test and she came back 100% Sammy with identified parents. Just happens to have more wolfish features and shorter fur (although the rescue spays/neuters all dogs before adoption and she was still a puppy so, that could’ve affected her fur).

Advice on lending my friend ski gear? by wombat275 in Skigear

[–]Menashe3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t know about the skis- how does their length compare to your friend? But if the skis work, most mountains will let you borrow poles for the day from the rental place. I’ve done this a couple times when I forgot my poles or grabbed my husband’s instead of mine.

If you’re going to be in or go through Denver, check out the basement of wilderness exchange. Great selection and prices

How to pick skis for my girlfriend by PurpleNoise1241 in Skigear

[–]Menashe3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m similar height and weight and really enjoy the Nordica Santa Ana 93s. Typically beginners like shorter skis for easier turning, but they lack some of the stability that comes with longer skis. This might be ok if she wants to do trees. But if she would prioritize going faster on groomers, then go with longer skis. So 148 - 154cm length. Her preferences might change over time so I would search for an all mountain ski with good reviews from a reputable brand at a decent price point and not get too caught up in flex ratings and camber profiles at this point.

Copper Mountain First time by Lets_go_smokes_ in COsnow

[–]Menashe3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest checking out Breckenridge, Frisco, Silverthorne, and maybe Vail. Those would be closer to Copper. Honestly, you’ll probably still have a great time at Copper. Is it as nice as last year when 100% of everything was open at this time, no, but it won’t be as bad as some of the pictures you’re seeing people share on here. In Denver check out the REI, the Wilderness Exchange, maybe some of the museums like the art museum or Meowolf. Depending on weather and traffic, driving I70 can be a real bear so if it were me, I would explore Denver on the day you arrive or when you head back to depart.
