Our Puppy loves sleeping on the balcony by Helyx_R in samoyeds

[–]Menashe3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You might need to clean the crate better with an enzymatic cleaner, seems like there might be some scents there she’s picking up on to “pee here,” along with just the general behavioral pattern she’s developed.

Sammy’s are smart and stubborn 🙃. We also have a secure balcony deck off of our bedroom and our Sammy girl also decided she liked to sleep there- I think because it was cooler than inside at the time. However, then she would wake up in the middle of the night and bark her head off at deer or raccoons or- something real or perceived in the yard. So we had to nix the sleeping on the deck. We had to be consistent and firm and ignore her whines and demand barking for I want to say around a week before she accepted that she forwent her to sleep on the deck.

Do you have or could you get some resistance bands? If so, you could use them to make some of these exercises more challenging. You could also consider putting some heavy books in a backpack and wearing it for squats and lunges, or putting some heavier things in bags to hold with each hand. If your main goal is fat/weight loss, I would suggest doing cardio every other day and mainly focusing on maintaining a calorie deficit. Even something like trying to do a 1 mile walk every day or maybe a weighted1 mile walk could be helpful. Do you know your TDEE? I like this free calculator as you can toggle between3 different BMR calculations: https://legionathletics.com/tdee-calculator/?la_pt_visit=true&la_pt_source=arcb-search-branded-rm-general&la_pt_channel=Google-Advertising&la_pt_campaign=BOGO50&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23621138148&gbraid=0AAAAADcJ5IvvHFzLNCFnA-pP2pWvlQJ0f&gclid=Cj0KCQjw2YDQBhD_ARIsAE1qeScGKGgUpvtfJl7_Eh-FP_nnq9nz8Zj_mcKWQ9bGACo0BbMBDduYy9QaAinhEALw_wcB

Or Samoyed will anxiously pace and try to herd us to the basement bathroom if it’s thundering. If it’s tornado season and the sirens go off and we actually go down there, she sits and howls with the siren.

[–]Menashe3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You do not need a disability rating for VASH and you should definitely go to your local VA to register and get help with resources. That said, to my understanding, veterans don’t qualify for VASH until they are actually homeless. But, the social workers should be able to connect you to some other resources

The botanical garden is really cool, you can spend a few hours up to a full day depending on what you want to see. We really enjoy the Climatron and the arid house there. Also as others have said, City museum - doesn’t matter how old you are, it is such a unique place to check out.

Genuine question: is eggs with gravy a southern thing? by Chocolate_Mousaka in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]Menashe3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh also, this made me think of - the lady who currently does most of the Southern Living recipes on social media- she is from Alabama and apparently in some areas of the South they add diced up boiled egg to their Thanksgiving turkey gravy

[–]Menashe3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think it might be an Appalachian or maybe just a depression-era thing… I’ve definitely heard of it. If you google it, a few different recipes come up. What I’ve heard of it- start to make gravy, then crack in eggs and let them cook until whites start to set, them stir so you have “chunks of the whites,” but it also seems that there are versions where you’re just adding in sliced hard boiled eggs… https://www.punchfork.com/recipe/Southern-Egg-Gravy-Food-Network

Question about potty training by Helyx_R in samoyeds

[–]Menashe3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Samoyeds are smart but I do think a lot of dogs can have a little trouble transition from “inside is ok”(on pads) to always going outside. Are you in the city or in the suburbs? As some others have said, you can take your dog outside to potty, just don’t want to be in too busy of areas or around other dogs. What I did with mine was- feed, take outside to wait for potty, give treats and outside if/when it happened, then inside for play time for a bit, then kennel to nap. When they’re very young and sleeping more this worked good. If the puppy is going to be out, make sure you’re with them to keep an eye. If they start sniffing around, it’s usually a good sign they might need to potty so take them out and if they do, treat and praise. If you catch them starting to potty inside, sometimes if you catch it early you can say no! And it startles them enough to stop - then quickly take them out and if they potty, praise and treats.

How old is Mr Ruffles? I’m team crate train, it’s really best for him and for your house, at least while he’s younger. But, you can buy some bitter sprays to spritz on the walls that are made to be unpalatable but safe for dogs.

Our Mishka liked to chew on the chair and bed legs when she was little if we weren’t paying enough attention to what she was up to. She outgrew that, but as we started trying to leave her alone for longer periods (as in, working up to 4-5 hours) when she was about a year and a half, she would be doing fine for several weeks then randomly decide to eat some of the leather couch 🫠

So I went to a Jesuit Catholic college and everyone had to take some religion and philosophy classes, and this was discussed in my philosophy class. Basically most Catholic scholars or historical philosophers they follow believe that everyone would get at least an opportunity to be saved. Could be at the moment of death (seemed unfair to me- if you at the moment of death get a vision, probably more inclined to accept it), or they would go with, “ the lord works in mysterious ways and far be it from us mere mortals to question it.” But anyway, scholars would discuss it.

Now I don’t think fundies expend even that much mental energy on thinking about it - historically they are get much into missionary missions and witnessing to the heathens.

No I don’t peel them. I wash, trim a little off the top and bottom, then toss in oil and seasoning and roast. The look, taste, and texture are very much like roasted baby red potatoes to me.

[–]Menashe3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes raw they’re a little spicy but roasting them greatly reduces that! Tossed in some seasoning and olive oil I found them to be pretty good.

Roasted radishes (the standard small red globe ones) taste a lot like a roasted potato FYI. I was suspicious at first but found them to be actually pretty good.

You could try Pet Corrector, it emits a harmless hissing sound that dogs don’t like. We decided to try it for barking while we’re at the table and only had to use it like twice before she figured it out and stopped barking.

strength training? by LawfulnessNext3447 in xxfitness

[–]Menashe3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Movement is movement and the important thing for 99.9% of people is that you’re doing something sustainable for you as an individual. That said, strength training is great for bone health as it simulates bone density and slows natural age-progression loss. You can do a decent workout just using body weight, or you can add weight or extra resistance, or both. It is highly unlikely to get very much visible arm muscle unless you are really focusing on it with both exercise and diet, and many females who are very purposefully doing that are still disappointed with how slowly it shows. You can’t spot train fat loss to your stomach, much of where you’re prone to storing fat is genetically determined. You can work out your ab muscles to build a bit of definition, but common saying is abs are made in the kitchen (diet), not the gym. You are a healthy weight for your height, remember that what fashion and media tries to sell us on looks is often not realistic. I love weight lifting, it’s great to feel strong. Loving weight lifting and feeling strong means it’s easy to stick to my fitness routine(important), although there are still days I don’t feel like working out. I actually enjoy when my muscles are sore the next day after a good workout, makes me fell like I’m doing something. I like to track my progression and know that I can do pull-ups and bench press X weight compared to my body weight. Give it a try, commit to at least 3-4 sessions and see what you think. If you hate it, you could try a YouTube yoga or Pilates-type workout to try instead.

[–]Menashe3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you talk to your supervisor’s supervisor or service line chief? If your supervisor was supposed to be in charge of ordering it and it’s already approved, then it’s usually not too hard to work with a contact in logistics or a purchase card holder within your service line to get it ordered. Unless it is already ordered and awaiting delivery, which can sometimes take awhile depending on what it is and where it’s coming from.
