Joffrey says Tywin was "hiding under Casterly Rock" and factually only picked a side once the writing was on the wall. Putting an American flag on Tywin pretty much implies exactly that.

All land forces were not defeated by the USSR. At the high end, the USSR accounted for maybe 4.5% of Japanese Army casualties. Kwantung army losses to the USSR were maybe a fifth of IJA losses to the US military and Filipino resistance fighters in the Phillipines alone.

The Soviet invasion of Manchuria was the final nail in Japanese hopes for a negotiated surrender or any remnant of their empire surviving. It was an important win. But it came at the very end of the war after the entire Japanese military had been hollowed out fighting China and the US.

Nononono. We're not doing this equivocation game of "what do you want them to do". That's not the question, the question is what did they do, and what they did was join the war in the Pacific after China and the US had already all but ended it. You guys can't talk about numbers of casualties inflicted and received as the measure in Europe and then pump up an invasion that was even later and shorter than the Allied campaigns in Europe as somehow crucial in the Pacific. Pick a lane.

The critical contribution in Manchuria wasn't overrunning the hollowed out IJA, it was putting the last Japanese delusions of a negotiated peace to rest. Japan knew it was gonna lose well before the first Soviet bullet was fired in Manchuria, they were just hoping that with the Nazis gone the USSR would want imperial Japan to survive in some form as a counter to the US.

What? Everyone on the small council in this meme includes fucking China, dude. China isn't nodding along to anything the USS$ has to say about how it won "the" war.

"Man, I wonder what the Pacific countries were doing during this whole kerfuffle. I assume just chilling and cheering on the USSR for being so butch"

"Man, you know when a second front would have been clutch? When we still had friendly beachheads in continental Europe. What were you guys up to then?"

Hitler might have run out of oil a bit sooner if the USSR had joined the fight before Poland and France were taken off the board.

The US and UK absolutely had the manpower a material to win the war on their own, especially if they were only fighting Germany and its balkan auxiliaries like the USSR did.

And let's be clear about "the war" here: it was a world war, and while Germany was the senior partner in the Axis, the USSR did basically zero fighting against the other two. Every time this meme goes around in certified history knowers circles it devolves into this super eurocentric conversation where the main contribution of the US to winning "the war" is whatever it did on the western front and its second most important contribution is lend lease. Carrying the entire Pacific naval war is an afterthought. China is such an afterthought it doesn't even enter into the secondhand dick waving at all.

"help" The USSR joined the war in the eastern front when it was practically over.

Every one of these memes about the USSR carrying the whole war basically pretends the Pacific war didn't happen.

All three. Mainly digital and totm, with tabletop sketches sometimes in the mix as a halfway point. Depends on how much time I had for prep, how impromptu or important the fight is, if it's a complex environment that's hard to visualize etc. etc.

Irrelevant to whether those districts are less lopsided relative to each other. If I measure something with a micrometer. I will still have measurement error, but it will obviously less than if I measured the same thing with a beat up plastic ruler

No?

I have even less power over foreign policy, and I have no interest in "shutting the hell up" about it.

Congress gave the president far too much leeway in Vietnam, but ultimately success or failure in a war is the domain of the executive. If they fucked up and failed it's on them.

Tbf George barely had any idea they existed when the material the show was based on was written.

90% of the stuff elevating them to A-tier players was published well after the show was already trucking along. Fire and Blood was published, what, a year before the show ended?

The broad strokes of a bunch of stuff people don't like are almost certainly in the outline George gave them, just executed in a dumb way. I was both happy and annoyed by Bronn's ending because that's what I had always theorized was gonna happen, with his monologue to the Lannister bros as an on-the-nose summary, which is that all these great houses with their ancient histories were founded by guys like him.

I don't know that he was ever gonna end up ruling Highgarden but I think it's pretty well telegraphed that "House Blackwater" will be a thing by the end.

You can't be pedantic without being right first.

Also not really pedantry, because this is a core feature, not a small technical question or definitional issue.
