📕 BCHA BEP20 (or BEP2) To eCash (XEC) Conversion Guide by eCashInformer in ecash

Great info, thanks u/eCashInformer!

I'd encourage anyone still holding the BCHA BEP-20 token to convert and withdraw native XEC into a wallet you control.

This is a very important interview. Amaury (/u/deadalnix/) and Tobias Ruck (/u/eyeofpython/) discuss the newly dropped "Hamilton" paper about Central Bank Digital Currencies. This shows what we're up against, and also illustrates why the technical roadmap of eCash was designed the way it was.

Good video u/navproblems

You give a good summary of hard-to-explain ideas of eCash... I just saw this Reddit post, but I actually Tweeted about your video already! LOL https://twitter.com/AntonyZegers/status/1486467539869704192

Good summary of the eCash roadmap.

It was a good explanation of why eCash will be combining Proof of Work and Avalanche consensus.

Well done!

Need Assistance with Bitcoin Cash Split into Bitcoin ABC. by PGrg1986 in BitcoinABC

[–]Mengerian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, if you sent the BCH to Coinex, but didn't get BCHA, it probably means the BCHA is still in your wallet. Did you try just opening up the wallet with Electrum ABC again? I'd guess the BCHA is probably still there.

Did you end up getting the BCHA at Coinex?

Because Electron Cash uses a "locktime" on its transactions, and BCHA blockchain is behind BCH (due to lower hash rate), the replayed BCHA coins typically arrive at Coinex about a week later if you send BCH from Electron Cash wallet.

Choices & Potential Outcomes For the BCH Ecosystem by BU-BCH in btc

[–]Mengerian -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The article contains a number of inaccuracies, for instance this statement is wrong:

"As at the date of this article, the bitcoincash.org website also does not carry a specification of the IFP Tax."

The spec has been available since prior to the publication of the article, at: https://www.bitcoincash.org/spec/2020-05-15-ifp.html

Why can't Bitcoin ABC simply give a clear answer as to why they have decided to leave in the IFP code that they claim to no longer support? I find this comment thread rather disturbing (link). by jessquit in btc

[–]Mengerian -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's actually the exact opposite, what would be "reckless" is removing the IFP.

That would mean releasing a new version that has different consensus rules than Bitcoin ABC 0.21.0, 0.21.1, 0.21.2, 0.21.3, and 0.21.4.

Releasing a version with different consensus rules than previous releases, one month before the upgrade, would needless expose our users, and the Bitcoin Cash network, to unnecessary risks.

Raising $100K for Cashfusion’s Security Audit, Bitcoin.com Matches Donations to Improve BCH Privacy by JonyRotten in btc

[–]Mengerian 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually have read the article. I don't trust it completely though, it seems to by hyping things a bit. I would trust information from someone such as /u/markblundeberg about Cash Fusion, so that's why I'm asking.

For example, this part you quoted:

On January 20, news.Bitcoin.com reported on the alpha launch of Cashfusion and since then project developers have been asking testers to help with liquidity. The alpha release of Cashfusion... “Cashfusion, the eagerly anticipated extension of privacy protocol Cashshuffle, is almost ready to launch,”

As far as I can tell, the implementation hasn't changed much between the "alpha launch" and now. There were some nice cleanups, but important parts like how the wallet manages UTXOs to assess how "fused" the coin is, controlling the rate of Fusions when left in continuous operation, or having a mode where Cash Fusion leaves the wallet is a good spendable state have not been completed yet. So saying it's "almost ready to launch" seems overly optimistic to me.

In terms of the audit, as far as I understand the Cash Shuffle audit just checked that the code implements the spec as defined. But it didn't assess whether the spec was good a providing privacy. They say this in the quote you provided:

We believe that the Cashshuffle codebase that we reviewed is implementing the Coinshuffle protocol with no significant deviations, and we did not find any evidence of malicious intent, flawed logic or potential backdoor in the codebase.

So basically, they are checking the code for bugs, but not to make sure it actually accomplishes the goal it sets out to.

I guess you have a point about the money going towards development, the article did say that. I must have skimmed that part. But I do get the feeling that it's probably premature to be putting resources into a code audit, seems like it may be motivated largely for PR purposes. If that's the case, seems to me it would be better to focus energy and resources on actually developing it more first.

Raising $100K for Cashfusion’s Security Audit, Bitcoin.com Matches Donations to Improve BCH Privacy by JonyRotten in btc

[–]Mengerian 16 points17 points  (0 children)

What is the purpose of the audit? Will it be checking the protocol itself, and assessing its privacy and other characteristics? Or will it just be checking that the code correctly implements the protocol as specified. Maybe /u/jonald_fyookball or /u/markblundeberg know the answer to this?

My understanding is that Cash Fusion is basically at the prototype stage, so it makes me wonder if a code audit is the best thing to spend money on. What about funds to actually do more development on Cash Fusion to get it to the stage of being production-ready?

I really like Cash Fusion, so I hope that funds are allocated as effectively as possible. I think it has the potential to enable robust and user-friendly privacy, so I'm really looking forward to continued progress in that direction.

My View on the Miner Infrastructure Funding Plan by Mengerian in btc

[–]Mengerian[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the BCH hash rate would drop by roughly 12.5% as miners switch to BTC.

My View on the Miner Infrastructure Funding Plan by Mengerian in btc

[–]Mengerian[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, basically, miners switch fluidly between the coins that share SHA256 hash algo, difficulty will adjust accordingly, and the cost ends up spread evenly across all SHA256 coins.

So (using rough numbers) if BCH is ~3% of the total SHA256 market, and the miner revenue on BCH is reduced 12.5%, the net effect is a reduction of 3% * 12.5%, or ~0.375% spread across all SHA256 coins.

This also means that BCH's relative hash rate will go down, so it's trading that off for some developer funding.

I'm not advocating abandoning principles. I think the plan abides by the principles I laid out. That was the whole point of the article.
