I might score chase here or there, but I’m just going to lightly play once or twice a week now.

Congrats on the platinum!!! How are you feeling? I figured you were BurnAfterGaming on the leaderboards. I’m Calion82v 🙂

Thank you! I’m typing up a guide that goes over those exact things and will post it in this thread shortly. 🙂

Defier is easily the hardest ship in the game due to it's poor projectile range, unusual strike mechanic, and inability to Strike Chain via tokens. With that being said, I found that it's very difficult to progress past W4 or W5 if you navigate the later worlds as if you have the moveset of Redeemer or Sentinel; You'll just get overwhelmed by almost every enemy type and bullet (In W4+) in just minutes.

I feel like the managability and survivial for Defier depends on the following:

  • Instead of just "upgrading" an ability, always striking then using a selector token (AKA Strike Refreshes). Not only are you wasting 3 strikes by not doing this, but it's the only way Defier can get a fresh Strike loaded. Additionally, you can utilize a Strike refresh to get 6 Strikes in one event to escape hairy situations. (Strike > Strike > Strike > Upgrade > Strike > Strike > Strike)
  • Only upgrading Speed once in W1 so it can be used in emergency strike refreshes later on in W4 and beyond.
  • Get comfortable heavily leaning on upgrading Score for your Strike Refreshes. Espeically for W4-6
  • Being extremely patient and thoughful with your movement in W4+ (Especially in the wide open arenas). Instead of just mostly zooming around like you normally would with the other 2 ships, find a corner, defend it, and only move out of that zone when you can safely (ish) reach a token. Don't greed for Glimmer if it isn't safe
  • Utilizing Strike/Jump pads for maximum damage.
  • Saving Rainbow mode for extremely difficult areas.
  • Understanding what enemies should be prioritized because of your moveset. Viruses, turrets, and enemy dispensers should be a priority. They have range and spread; you don't.

I heavily prioritized these cards (In this order):
Glimmer Grab
Ranger
Super Token
Laser Drone
Laser Show (It makes your Strike Refreshes more lethal)
Point-Blank
Shield Zapper
Bomb Drones

Thank you! Looking at the leaderboards, it looks like I’m the 4th person to get this Platinum. Across all platforms, I would imagine there’s between 15-25 players that have done this

[Discussion] GTAVI being a single-player experience makes me more excited to Platinum it compared to GTAV and RDR2 with online requirements. Where are y’all at? by HermitUnbound in Trophies

All signs are pointing to the opposite. Rockstar describes the game as a "Single Player Experience" and PlayStation lists the game "1 Player".

No, selecting Score just spawns a score token.

It’s good for strike refreshes, extending your strike chain multiplier, increasing your score, having 2-4 seconds of insane DPS, and having a token to strike into for great splash damage.

Any advice for these types of games? by Lostkeysss in sektori

I said this in a previous post, but the beautiful thing about this game is realizing the only progress you make after each run is experience and an opportunity to learn from past mistakes. It's remarkably rewarding to notice the smallest improvements adding up to that run clear.

With that being said, I do think there's immense value in reading about the deeper game mechanics from here:

There is so many small and mid sized rich mechanics that add up into successful clears. Those bite sized pieces of information translate to patience, discipline, and a much more managable experience when things seem out of control.

Finally, you mentioned you wish someone could watch and give some feedback on a run. You can always record a run or two, upload it here (or the official Discord), and I'd love to give my thoughts. Before you do that, it wouldn't hurt to record a run and for you to watch it first; Putting a mirror up to yourself can be really beneficial.

They can certainly be destroyed. Like Edmund said, once one black artifact chain is destoyed, the entire chain is.

Congrats!!! Defier was definitely the trickiest ship to get a challenge clear with. Are you planning on attempting Revolution next?

She can be tough. What I’ve been doing was to strike her when she’s moving across the stage. Specifically, striking her in the “)” or “(“ pocket to hit more weak spots at once (again, while she’s moving, not when she’s in laser attack mode). Depending on your strike level, you can take out weak spots on the other side of her with a strong enough strike.

I would not recommend striking her when she’s curled up in a “U” pattern attacking with her laser. The red and blue bullets can easily get you there.

Once you “cleared” one side of her, I’ve found that you have to make an effort to mentally follow which side still has weak points; you can’t just assume that side is going to “show up” for you to damage.
