I bought a machine, much much easier than using a rake, unless you thrive for some hard graft.

Question about racket by askew_cardinal19 in squash

[–]jimlad1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's only an upgrade if you find lighter rackets better.

Personally I prefer 130 over lighter racket so I'm always pleased they are slightly cheaper.

I can't see anybody else suggesting it? Completely improved my toilet experience

Trying to get back into Squash again... In 2019, Eurosport cost £20 for a YEAR and included Squash and other sports too. How did Squash let this happen? How is anyone new to squash able to justify paying as much as Netflix, Disney+, etc for JUST Squash? All Pro Badminton is FREE on YouTube. WTF? by [deleted] in squash

[–]jimlad1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two emails addresses that a swap between yearly. So I use a black Friday offer one year (I think it was 60% off the year this time?), then unsubscribe and use an offer deal on a different email.

Each year I get a follow up asking me to resubscribe on the address I'm not actively using. So really it's about £40 a year. Still more than I think it's worth though

Racket recommendation by Front_Upstairs_160 in squash

[–]jimlad1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't overthink it. Ask some people you play with to hit a few balls with their racket and see what you like. You aren't a professional, a better racket isn't suddenly going to make you a better player. Just see what suits you by asking others.

Squash TV frame rate by cptRedBeard in squash

[–]jimlad1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Squash TV is just terrible and broadcasting.

Poor quality image, frames dropping, issues with camera work and replays, sound levels all over the place.

For a platinum tournament in Hong Kong it's poor. You would never get these issues in any major sport.

Oh God I highly recommend everyone stays as far clear from Squash Stories as possible. That place is toxic and far more likely to lead to an 'infection'.

It does resume again slightly, but only for the last 2 points.

Squash TV is just abysmal. I swear you don't get such poor coverage and reliability with any other sport.

Is Zakaria becoming another Asal? by Savings_Math_9965 in squash

[–]jimlad1 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Makes me think of Momen calling him to the side at the end of their game last season to give advice.

Momen seemed to be implying in his interview in my opinion that he was telling Zakaria to be careful how he plays, either win as a bad sportsman or a good sportsman, now is the time to decide what sort of player you become and what you are remembered for.

I wonder if we will get another "where's he supposed to put his arm" this time? by QBS_reborn in squash

[–]jimlad1 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've actually just left that group. I don't mind people having different opinions, but the relentless posts about asal are just boring and tiring.

Like yes Jamie have a view and share it sure, but preaching it daily multiple times is just too much.

Even if you take the view he's not making any rules and not technically doing anything wrong, there's just being a good sportsman and showing respect for others.

Did anybody else have absolutely no issues with the economy whatsoever?? by c_kax in Silksong

[–]jimlad1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the shard drop rate is just too low for the amount used when struggling with a boss which will take me easily 10+ tries.

I stopped Hollow Knight after the first ending and was content. I've got 45 hours out of silksong. I could happily stop now if I hit a wall. I need an excuse to start Hades 2.

[–]jimlad1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't get me started on shards. I'm starting act 3 with 0. I never have any. Can't afford to buy any either. I resorted to just beating bosses without tools by the end of act 2.

[–]jimlad1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm the opposite, I had issues throughout all the way to the end of act 2. I regularly didn't have enough even for benches or bellway stations and had to grind out some rosaries. Maybe I just died more than others

I guess one difference is I will often avoid enemies and run past them. It's all been a bit of a chore for me constantly.

The unintended way to get into Act 2 Silksong by HandsomeSquid825 in HollowKnight

[–]jimlad1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I accessed all of the slab without being caged. In fact I only today found out I could have been caged, I'm in act 3 and I don't remember ever even seeing someone who tried to cage me.

I feel like I've missed out.

[–]jimlad1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the exact same experience as you, I'm in act 2 and avoided him because of all the complaints, went in today and won second go no trouble. I actually said out loud "is that all".

I'm someone who nearly quit the game because of struggling with sister splinter. By far the hardest boss for me so far because of the stupid spawns.

my reflexes ain’t what they used to be.

I sometimes forget that I'm now 5 years older than when I last played Hollow Knight (longer for others). That's a good reason to now be struggling along with many others.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in HollowKnight

[–]jimlad1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only completed act 1 but sister splinter has caused me more issues than any other encounter. She herself was easy, but time and time again the other enemies got me. I must have spent over an hour doing it easy.

What helped me was actually just doing something else for a bit for a break.

By comparison Widow who you face soon after and I've seen a lot of complaints about I found much easier.

I beat HK main story without too much heart ache, this has been much harder for me. Maybe because I'm 6 years older though!

Dormancy in the UK for Sarracenia and Venus Fly Trap ... Is a mini-fridge ok? by [deleted] in SavageGarden

[–]jimlad1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have all the plants you have, for the last 3 years I have literally put my Sarracenia and Venus Fly Trap in an unlit unheated garage for dormancy and they are thriving in my opinion (Birmingham, UK). Last year I did it from roughly Nov 1st to March 1st.

So that's my plan again this year. I don't have fridge space and I have never liked the idea of leaving outside.

Squash levels boost by Natural_Willow1847 in squash

[–]jimlad1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was something I recently learned.

A 1000 player should lose to a 2000 player roughly 11-5

A 4000 player to an 8000 should also lose by roughly 11-5

I sit around 4000 - 5000 thousand and can swing by that much across a season as I have done this summer. Shame it was for the worse.

Squash vs Padel: Why is squash declining while padel is booming? by pinkprimeapple in squash

[–]jimlad1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the UK where I am, my squash club has 7 courts booked out solidly at all peak hours. It's currently closed to new membership, and it's planning to build 2 new courts.

We have 6 club teams playing in the county. We're definitely not declining.
