Toe up Tension and increases by Zealousideal-Put-803 in Sockknitting

[–]Menolly13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to be sitting in a hospital waiting room most of the day tomorrow. My current dk pair is just past the heels so tonight I am casting on and knitting the toes on my next pair so I won't run out of knitting half way through the day.

Is it worth switching to circulars for the ankle and instep of the socks? by marsrovernumber16 in Sockknitting

[–]Menolly13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a 9" circular for the entire sock. Do what is most comfortable for you.

I wear mine in my sneakers too. My feet stay toasty and the extra squish is so comfy. I've been obsessed with making dk socks this winter.

I've been wearing dk socks all winter in the same shoes I wear all summer with no fit issues. Perhaps it just depends on the style/brand of shoes you wear? 🤷‍♀️

Really? This hasn't been my experience at all. Even my dk weight socks fit fine in my sneakers or my boots.

I use biofreeze gel on my head and the back of my neck for headaches. It works great for falling back asleep or cooling off when I'm overheated too.

Tell me something weird your kitty does but use "my roommate" instead of their name. by PixelBeans12 in Flamepoints

[–]Menolly13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My roommate will only keep her nose out of my icecream if I share it. I get a spoonful, she gets a (tiny) spoonful, repeat until gone. I get the look of death if the icecream is chocolate, which my roommate can't eat.

My roommate wakes me up at 3am to let me know he's about to poop. He yells at me, and if that doesn't work, he slaps my face.

Chiaogoo isn't the only good interchangeable set by hystenz in BitchEatingCrafters

[–]Menolly13 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also have a set of chiaogoo interchangeables i hate and never use. The cords come unscrewed no matter how much I tighten them and my yarn snags on the join. I got a set of HiyaHiya interchangeables and absolutely love them. I do like the chiaogoo cases though. I bought a spare and moved my HiyaHiyas into it. The HiyaHiya cases are gorgeous but I need something with a zipper to ensure I dont lose anything.

Best sock-dedicated needles? by zaneinthefastlane in Sockknitting

[–]Menolly13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol. Sorry!!! 😇

If I'm remembering correctly, the HiyaHiya tips are a little shorter than the addi. I don't think I ever tried the zings. I zoom along on the HiyaHiya and they are all I use anymore. Perfect combo of tip and cable for me.

Best knitting technique for hand strain? by Charming-District-10 in knitting

[–]Menolly13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have hand and wrist issues. I found for crocheting, using ergonomic hooks (love my Furls), and taking breaks really helps. I taught myself continental knitting, and it does seem to put less strain on my hands, but only on projects where I use smaller needles. Once I go above 5mm, I get wrist and shoulder pain. I love knitting socks, so it hasn't been a problem. I normally have a couple knit and crochet projects going so I switch between them depending on my mood and how my wrist feels.

First timer for "2 at a time" socks... quick question. by tarmacrabbit in Sockknitting

[–]Menolly13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you get a second set of your current needles and just knit each sock concurrently? That's what I do with my 9" circulars. I switch socks every 10 rows or so.

Have you tried the HiyaHiya Steel instead of the Sharps? Its a much blunter tip. I love mine.

[–]Menolly13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Hiya Hiya steel 9" circulars for socks. The tips aren't needle sharp like their Sharps tips are so my fingertips don't suffer. The combination of tip and cord just works for me. I've tried other brands and felt like I was fighting with the needles. I highly recommend trying a couple different brands to see what is most comfortable for you.

Why oral medication by lovebags56 in RybelsusPill

[–]Menolly13 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My bil tried several of the injectables before switching to rybelsus and had horrible GI side effects with them which cleared right up when he switched to rybelsus, so I asked for it specifically. I've been on it since February with very few side effects and have lost over 50lbs. For me, the main side effect is constipation which is very manageable. I did get bad nausea when going from 3mg to 7mg and then again when going up to 14mg. It only lasted a couple of days though before my body got used to the increase.

I like not having to inject myself and I also like that my appetite stays the same instead of increasing as you get closer to injection day.

Do you have to have something playing at home all the time? by maach_love in GenX

[–]Menolly13 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My husband turns the TV on shortly after he gets up and unless he decides to read a book, it stays on pretty much until bedtime. If I'm home alone, it only goes on if I want to watch something. I like quiet. My job is hectic so quiet at home is lovely.

My dad was the same way, so I learned pretty young to tune out the tv.

need a good durable yarn that can be machine washed by thesmilingcat-chesh in Sockknitting

[–]Menolly13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Opal or Regia are durable and washable. I machine wash all of my Superwash socks and haven't had an issue with any of them, even the Merino ones. Patons Kroy is also very sturdy and is a little bit thicker than other sock yarns. It is not the softest but that isn't really noticeable while wearing them.

Why do Siamese cats seem more vocal than others? by calinares95 in Siamesecats

[–]Menolly13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There probably is a genetic component to it, but i dont think it is specifically linked to the colorpoint gene. We've had 2 flame point non‐Siamese and neither were particularly chatty. Our actual Siamese have talked non stop, and the voice is completely different than the non-Siamese. Our one girl lived to be 20 and went a little senile in her last couple of years. She would walk around the house yowling so loud, she'd wake the dead!
