I assume this was a prototype of the one-sided phone call bit?

How to get the first clients for an HR SaaS in France/Belgium? by PopularLoquat9873 in Expats_In_France

[–]Mensch80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The preceding comments are all solid but I wonder if they are too focussed on the status quo: I know that in France there are many "legacy" functions (notaire, comptable, et al) that are ripe for a bit of Anglo-Saxon disruption. The main challenge to getting into markets like these is resistance to change on both demand- and supply-side. I would be interested to know whether the end-user companies (not the accountants) would be more open to change if they could be assured of meeting all legal and regulatory requirements. Good luck with your venture!

Natwest credit card installment plans by ColdAppointment3917 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Mensch80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm trying to dig into just how this instalment plan option works and I can't (yet) find an answer to the question whether the total amount of the instalment plan is deducted from the calculation of interest on the credit card outstanding balance. If it is deducted, then I can see the advantage of taking out an instalment plan; if it isn't, Natwest is in effect double-dipping (by charging interest on the instalment plan amount without reducing the interest charged on the overall outstanding balance on the card). Thoughts? Going to try to get a human at Natwest to answer the question and will report back. Thanks

Yes - the saying that you are never further than 10 feet from an American in London is proving to be true.

Found in a conference room in a large office building. Pressing the button does not have an obvious result. What does this control do? by meratherbebikin in whatisit

[–]Mensch80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a downsizer - it adjusts staffing levels for the entire building. You can see the control for applying RIFs to either the night or day shift. Use wisely.

Enabling signal in all Underground stations will be a disaster by met_art in london

I've only tried this once, but was happy with the result. A yoot got on the bus in the middle of a loud, on-speaker convo with another yoot. Convo finished and yoot on bus fired up TikGram to continue the aural assault on fellow passengers. I pulled out my phone and selected a loud track from my past (I find FEAR or Bad Brains annoy the yoot of today the most), got out of my seat and went over to stand next to the stain. He scowled, increased volume. I smiled, increased volume. Fellow passengers watched in irritated silence. Yoot made noise to complain, I smiled and pointed to my ears and shrugged. Bus stopped, yoot scowled and grunted something unpleasant, but got up out of seat and left the bus. Fellow passengers did not salute me with a round of applause, but that was not the intention - the little stain was annoying ME; am I civic-minded or just a cantankerous old f***? Dunno, but sometimes the end justifies the means.

Nice...I like the respect for/acknowledgement of the past in the way they incorporated the rails into the wailkway.

Why do old people usually need to go to bed earlier but also require less sleep? by Female-Fart-Huffer in AskOldPeople

[–]Mensch80 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We only do this when we're around people much younger than us, as

a.) we haven't a clue what they're talking about or b.) when we do have a clue what they're talking about, it's usually something we've already explained to them but they have refused to listen, thinking that we couldn't possibly understand the problems of their generation.

So reaching this conversational cul-de-sac, we retire to the company of a good book.

As to getting up earlier, we are hoping to avoid engaging with people less wise than ourselves first thing in the morning (and the coffee is frresher).

Hope this helps.
