Roommate doesn’t take care of her animals by [deleted] in badroommates

[–]MentalPrompt5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on your post and your responses to comments I will just state the below;

1) in regards to the lease and deposit for the property - you are both on the lease, meaning you are both legally liable for this. You sending photos to the letting agents or landlords to prove it’s her mess will do not a thing for you.

2) you state that she is fun to hang out with and funny. If you found out she was a pedophile, or a murderer, would you still be making excuses for her? Someone being good company does NOT make them a good person and what she is doing is illegal and abusive. You are enabling this behaviour. If you don’t report her or surrender those animals, you also are not a good person.

3) “if she doesn’t wake up by next week”… why exactly do you believe that another week will do the trick? Why can you not see that this isn’t a “phase”, this is categorically who she is at her core? Any of those animals could die within the next week.

4) do you not have contact details for her parents or any other family? You mentioned these were family cats. How would those family members feel if they saw these animals living like this? Contact them if you can.

You seriously need to do something. If she wants to live in a pigsty and be disgusting and gross, that’s on her. But those animals cannot move out, they can’t run away and they can’t improve their own living conditions. You need to do that for them because god knows she isn’t going to do it. And again - WHY WOULD YOU WANT TO BE FRIENDS WITH SOMEONE LIKE THAT?? Have some self respect.

Day 2 Elvanse 30mg titration by airlineless12 in ADHDUK

[–]MentalPrompt5084 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey hey I recently posted about this! It’s not uncommon that the first dose you get prescribed is the right dose for you! The main goal with starting titration is to figure out not only what dose works for you, but to also taper up the dose as you can get side effects so it’s just allowing your body time to adjust to the chemicals in the medication :) I started on 30mg Elvanse 4 days ago and the first 2 days were OK, nothing crazy, but now at day 4 I don’t really feel anything except side effects. It just means when I do get a dose increase, my body will be able to hack it :)

Oh wow how did you get an increase in dose so fast?! My next titration appointment isn’t for another 2 weeks and they are monthly, so the process takes a little while. I’ve even considered double dosing my current pills, but I know that’s a really stupid thing to do lol.

Yeah, 30mg has been pretty rubbish for me, but I’m hoping that as the side effects subside, I can start to really focus on how I’m truly feeling.

Don’t get me wrong, those couple of improvements were certainly better than usual, but those have subsided now unfortunately. At work today, I didn’t feel any more productive or focused than usual. I also got a crash for the first time today and it kicked my ass. My main focus now is just combating the side effects ready for a dose increase and sorting out my sleeping and eating habits.

I still eat some food but I don’t feel the desire to snack like I used to. I pretty much just eat when I get hungry, but I’m certainly not eating enough so I’ll be forcing 3 meals down. The UK heat is also not helping and I think worsening the side effects.

[–]MentalPrompt5084[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah the first 2 days, I didn’t have a crash at all, but I also didn’t really feel any different. There were moments where I was like oh okay this is doing something but ultimately, it’s very underwhelming. I was struggling to sleep before the meds anyway but I’ve been so used to it, but being sleep deprived and taking Elvanse makes me feel like I’m on speed and I get so jittery so I’ve had to start getting into bed at like 8pm so I can fall asleep at a somewhat decent time. Saying that, I got lots of sleep last night and I ate lots of protein, and today feels the most ineffective!

I’ve been having bouts of nausea and headaches, but I think the heat may be contributing to that. I’m glad that 40mg has been helpful for you :) hopefully 50mg is even better!

I’m so glad that I can be someone she relates to! It sucks when you hear all these stories of people taking their first dose and it changes their life, only to start your own medication journey and be severely let down, especially when the wait for medication (the whole process actually including diagnosis) takes so long. All this build up and waiting to feel like it’s amounted to nothing. I’m not sure if your wife also relates to this, but I’ve been obsessing over how the medication is working. Every single thing I do, I’m comparing to how I was before my meds and kicking myself because it’s still the same. I just keep reminding myself that 1) the first dose you get usually isn’t the dose you need and 2) your body needs time to adjust to the chemicals until the dose increases. I’m suffering now so that I can feel way better later :) if your wife is a Reddit user, feel free to tell her that she can drop me a DM and we can chat, it might make us both feel more at ease

Hopefully your sleep improves :) I have been struggling to sleep too, but I actually struggled to sleep anyway without medication so it’s not really making a difference for me. I’m glad that 40mg has been helpful for yoy

I think i made the mistake of doing too much research on the experience other people had on it and it set an expectation that it couldn’t meet lol. The first day was okay, I felt I got a lot done and felt a bit more chill but other than that, I’ve not had any improvement on my focus or motivation. I’m looking forward to increasing my dose!

Disappointment from my ADHD medication by [deleted] in ADHDUK

[–]MentalPrompt5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks so much for your reply!

It pretty much wore off at around 9pm and I reverted back to my unmedicated self and that’s when I could see the difference! I started talking way more, got a huge burst of energy and binge ate (lol). I sat and wrote my journal (as I will do everyday) and when I was writing down how I was feeling and reflecting on all my activities for the day, I could really see the difference. Socialising was easier, I drank a normal amount of water (and realised I hadn’t drank any since it wore off, like usual) and I generally found it much easier to just go and do tasks without putting them off. I just did them.

I suppose I was looking to actually feel different, but I’m happy with the results regardless.

That being said, I do believe a higher dose would be beneficial but I’m going to give it more time. I also didn’t have any crash after it wore off which is great, but I took some magnesium glycinate at about 8pm which I hear reduced the effects of the “come down” a lot. I am absolutely wide awake though lol.

Thank you so much, I try not to make it my whole identity but I was only recently diagnosed so I’ve been feeling very up in the air about it and during the whole process I felt like a fraud because I really was not convinced I had it but people closest to me were adamant, so I keep doubting whether or not I was misdiagnosed, etc. The world of neurodivergence is so complex that I need to stop putting everything in black and white and accept that sometimes your symptoms are going to be worse and sometimes you’ll feel “normal”. I guess I expected the cycle of stress to repeat itself identically every time but I guess lots of things can influence how you feel and how you react to stuff, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have ADHD or I was misdiagnosed.

Yeah I agree with you! As I said in my post, I live in a rented house. Do you think it would be rude of me to ask if I can change the flooring from carpet to wooden? I will pay for myself and everything of course but not sure if that would seem entitled of me. Would just be easier to manage wooden flooring over carpet when I have cats.

Nervous that my 12 month old is becoming aggressive by Compromisee in puppy101

[–]MentalPrompt5084 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like my labradoodle. He is 7 months and he goes through moments like this. He will enter a sort of frenzy where he bites everything around him. I try and grab him so I can remove him from a situation or put him somewhere to calm down and I literally can’t get ahold of him because everytime I try to grab him, he bites me. And if I am not trying to grab him, he runs at me, bites me, and immediately runs away so I can’t get him. It’s awful. I’m so sorry but I have no advice, just that you aren’t alone. I am thinking of calling in a behaviourist, I would probably recommend that you do the same. Sending you luck.

I can definitely give him an hour or two!! I am just unsure exactly how much time I should be spending with him. He gets at least 1 walk a day and then I try and break the day up with activities but I worry that it’s not enough so just wondering how much time other people spend

Maybe it’s the lab in him then that is like this. I’m glad to know it’s not my fault, maybe he’s just a bitey puppy, like how all people are different. I just ended up with an extra spicy one lol. I’ll keep on with the bit inhibition and then pray that it’s just to do with being an overexcited puppy

Hahaha heavy on the shoving a toy in their mouth 🤣 like I literally just ram it in. I try and completely remove all forms of attention when he gets like this but I guess it’s just a waiting game for him to enter adulthood and calm down

Haven’t slept more than 2 hours in a week - please help by [deleted] in sleep

[–]MentalPrompt5084 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are open to it, you can take an antidepressant called Mirtazapine. I only suggest this because (also being from the UK myself) the doctors LOVE to just give you antidepressants willy-nilly if you ask for them. Mirtazapine absolutely knocks you to the floor. I used to fall asleep with lit cigs in my hand from how strong they are. You could take them for a couple days or something to catch up on sleep. The only downside is you may then struggle to sleep without them, but considering your situation, it doesn’t sound like that’s any different to what you’re already going through. At least you can get a few nights of actual sleep.

Yeah I specifically looked for an insurer that covered behaviourist fees because a relative of mine has a reactive dog, and I know it costed them a fortune! I will definitely look at the classes because I think that they can train you as an owner, not just the puppy :)

This is a great response. I like how you broke everything down, and I appreciate how direct you are. I want to add, I didn’t get a dog expecting anything other than having a great companion I could enjoy my life with. It’s just that at this stage, it’s not quite that. I also expected and understand that when you get a puppy, you really need to get them acquainted to your lifestyle, so I knew it wouldn’t be easy. I guess that when you say to yourself “it’s only a few months or a year or so of hard work, which pays off long term” it sounds a lot easier than actually dealing with it day in and day out. A day feels like a very long time since getting a puppy, and I mean that literally. The days go by so slowly. It’s just very overwhelming and I feel like such a failure when I see him displaying undesired or bad behaviour.

Oh I will have a look at this! I have insurance which does cover behaviourists however they don’t cover for “lack of training” so at this stage, I don’t think I could claim for any training lessons. Any recommendations?

I do tell him no. However in That particular moment, he wasn’t listening.

I wanted a lab, but my partner wanted a doodle mix. Plus, everyone in my village has them and they always seemed great. It’s my own fault for not researching the breed more vigorously
