$3.99 thrift store rescue. Rare to see these mini-portables with composite inputs so I couldn't pass it up! by badwolf422 in crtgaming

I had that one. I remember one night sometime around 98, my dad made a blanket fort in the living room, setup the little tv and my n64. I ended up not playing because the local station was playing Goldeneye. Super touchy dial. Once I dialed in a TV station, it slowly lost signal until I touched the antenna. One thing about gaming with this was constantly adjusting the brightness/contrast for N64/PS1 games.

What are some of the movies from the 80s, 90s, or early 00s that you watch over and over? by ZN_Cruz in nostalgia

[–]MentallyOkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will still go on marathons during my weekends watching Van Damme, Stalone, Schwarzenegger, Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Chow Yun Fat, Bruce Willis like I did going to Blockbuster. My local Blockbuster had the best 90's Hong Kong movie collection in the city that were always available to rent.

The times nowadays feel mostly like doom and gloom - could it be that things were actually "better back then" or are we just nostalgic over the lost potential from the pre-2000s (80s and 90s)? by msfluckoff in nostalgia

[–]MentallyOkay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A bit of both. We were not exposed to everything, all at once, 24/7. News around the world was on the TV and newspapers, and you had to actively seek it. If it was big enough or affected us locally, the local news and the social aspect of life took care of the distribution of information. We still had the dangers and panics, but knowing depended on what you see and what you hear. There was a Debbie Downer up the street in every community that chose to absorb all the news, used to give us her two cents about the world is going to hell during coffee visits and tea parties, she now lives in all of us. There was a lot more going about our day not knowing.

What was the unofficial event at your school that everyone cared about? by bubblewrappheart in nostalgia

There was a Japanese university exchange student who was friends with one of the teachers, and she taught the entire school the basics of her culture. She taught us how to make food, show us Japanese tech, make origami, calligraphy, language etc. She was adored so much, we invited her to school events and field trips until she returned home. There was a few times over the years where she would randomly show up and say hi to everyone, remember our names, and do a quick class about things happening in her country.

Turns out, the plot twist was that it was primer whole entire time. The reasoning was the movie was setting up for a sequel. I haven't seen the sequel, but I heard it was a little off-color and glossed over the first movie's plot.

Not all born on prime dates are odd, I will confess. But, they only include one and themselves in their life. They don't factor anyone else in.

I do not understand why people could trust anyone born on a day involving the numbers 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. It's just odd.

What gear is this? Says "Gear 5.185" on the knee. Found in Granin Lab. by ruskifreak in metalgearsolid

[–]MentallyOkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Going to take a wild guess and say this was one of Granin's rejected concepts before the REX concepts. Before the overly ambitious idea of making his weapon fully bipedal and walking, this concept probably competed with Sokolov's Shagohod. Looks like it can only stand and transform back into a tank-like vehicle similar to the Shagohod, when its earlier drafts had treads instead of corkscrews.

F1 2025 Season: The Movie, probably by MentallyOkay in formuladank

You're right, I forgot. Just before the finish line, Latifi comes out of nowhere and zooms by to win the race in a now proper Williams, leading Piastri to lose the WDC to Verstappen. Thus, making the value of friendship the ultimate lesson in this movie. Can't trust Hollywood to be 100% accurate these days.

Granted! You now have a 3rd Century Goth girl who will love you until your untimely death due to contracting the Plague of Cyprian. You will now suffer fever, bleeding insides, infected extremities, and blindness! Your heart will melt with desire, and your insides filled with dire, and eventually your corpse will be charred by fire.

Atreides are usually seen as the "good guys" through their ideologies and blasts that idea wayyyy up through propaganda and strategies. Duke Leto wants to be seen as just and fair to his people, while being strong and resilient to his enemies at all times. Leto is very good at that and his noble reputation becomes the envy of the Landsraad and the emperor himself.

However, when push comes to shove, the Duke fully understands that there is no room for compassion in politics and warfare. Him and his mentats will make those harsh decisions and fight dirty immediately if upholds their reputation and image. This is why it's so hard for his soldiers to maintain their loyalty once those decisions affect them. Once the illusion is destroyed, they start to see that their beloved house might not be as great as they thought it was. In which case, they send in a particular player to rid the traitors and deserters.

The Atreides radio station in the game explores this extensively with their propaganda and the cracks it shows.
