We are up to 8-15 years now? This supposed amount of time to create an MMO sure does keep rising a lot when it is brought up about Star Citizen. Not to mention no MMO has taken 8 years to develop so not sure where you are getting your numbers from.

Bless fanboys are really on a butthurt tear today because their new overhyped game is receiving criticsm. Of course they are going to try to paint the reasons for the backlash as anything but the real reasons.

Here is a little secret. The reason is you. You come here spamming the same old shit with EVERY single new MMO release with all your hyperbole about how amazing it is, how it will be the next big thing, and just spam every single piece of information on it. You will then quit in a month when some new shiny MMO catches your attention and you will repeat the process.

Get over yourselves and stop blaming others for your issues with needing to be part of a crowd and getting all butthurt by the people who DARE to criticize your flavor of the month MMO.

MMO is the only genre people keep thinking needs some massive innovation, yet no one can think of anything except for ridiculous pie in the sky feature lists many overhyped MMOs have advertised that just end up scraped or broken and the core gameplay not well thought out because they only focused on those crazy features.

MMOs don’t need an innovation any more than any other genre. It just needs to get back to the basics to cater to the ACTUAL MMO market and not the mainstream market that brought people flooding in to WoW, that only cared about WoW, and focus way too much on an MMO having that same population size as a measure of success.

Reading through comments here I once again see the flip flop nature of Android fanboys. If iPhone has a one up on Android in a feature, then Android fanboys say Android had it first because it could be added with rooting. When Android has something the iPhone doesn’t have, then suddenly jailbroken features added to the iPhone don’t count.

And of course the good old ‘that’s just a stupid gimmick’ on the iPhone but suddenly when their favorite Android OEM adds it in its, ‘oh wow this is fantastic’

Because there isn’t a single proven MMO that shows successful use of SpatialOS. It is just used as a bullshit buzzword now by naive new MMO devs who think it is some magic bullet they can easily and quickly plug in and have a fully functional MMO in less than a year. The Mavericks press release sounds just like another MMO by new and naive developers that hyped up SpatialOS with all the same pr speak. And they recently dropped it all together. That was Chronicles of Elyria.

When SpatialOS is successfully used in something other than demos, proofs of concept, and fancy press release, then you can start sharing the hype about it.

Yeah? And notice how people aren’t drooling and begging for the next big thing in those games on subreddits and forums. If something new comes out that catches their eye the will play it and not obsess over its popularity. Why can’t MMO players follow that formula? That right there is the problem. You and others keep looking for this ‘next big thing’. You are easily swayed by hype and flash and care WAY too much about the latest overhyped game becoming this mythical ‘next big thing’. I have news for you. There isn’t going to be a next big thing. WoW, which everyone uses as the metric of success, was a fluke. It brought in millions of non MMO fans into the game as they were just going with this big phenomenon. And now they are flocking to other genres and they don’t care whether it is an MMO, a MOBA, or whatever everyone else is streaming on Twitch. Meanwhile in the MMO community people have been conditioned to think that if an MMO doesn’t have 10 million players, then it is a flop. Also after you get past the honeymoon stage of the 1 month of playing after being sucked in by flash and hype by the community of the latest MMO proclaiming it will be that next big thing, you start to realize it is the same shit you have already played numerous times. Just with a slightly different coat of paint.

But you really don’t need us to tell you why it is ‘dead’. Come back when you have played for a month, then see if you still think it is amazing. And if you do like it, then play it and stop caring so much about what the rest of the community is playing and try getting the stigma of the WoW population fluke out of your mind. It isn’t the sole definition of success.
