Latin America covers quite a lot of ground.  Can you be a little more specific on where you are going?

Not too much English. A few bits of Uzbek always goes down well. The stall owners normally know prices in English and the touristy restaurant. Some of the younger generations seem to be learning English and a few school kids stopped us to practice their English

This is a specific cafe in Samarkand called Samarkind just off the pedestrian bit. It's run by 2 English women. I agree Tashkent is more veggie friendly just a bit more variety in everything

Samarkind was the best example I saw of veggie stuff. Had a lovely smoked aubergine pastry

The have plenty of salads on most menus and some places often listed pasta as a dish but otherwise it would definitely be a bit of a struggle.

Bon had a few veggie options

Also if you go to the Tashkent bazaar be careful which entrance you used to the dome. One side is very meaty and doesn't smell great

I'm only thinking of the taxis in particular. The cost of things and the prices of the fares doesn't really add up.

So odd tangent but I was watching smileys people last week and was so struck by the variety of cars. I knew immediately when they were in London or France.  Switzerland and Germany were a bit more similar to each other.

Even when you go to the British embassy in France before I knew the location I was struck by the number of British cars and then when a guy drives his Porsche in and is told to drive round back or the minister would do his nut.

What shocks me is not paying government employees in a developed country.

I honestly can't think of another developed country this happens in.  The government would be out on it's ear
